Hail and High Winds Hit Guthrie Center Weekend
June began hot and dry but a weekend storm dumped 5.03 inches of rain in Guthrie Center. High winds and hail roused residents and spurred power outages up to an hour in spots. Monteith saw over five inches, while Basard and Adair-Casey reported lighter totals. Sunday night brought winds again with only .26 inches, contrasting Saturday’s 4.39 inches.

Democrats circulate petition across Guthrie county to put on the ballot a voter choice on how county supervisors are elected. Board reapportioned into five districts after a one man one vote ruling, with all candidates elected by countywide vote. James Edward Culbertson, 22, a Navy veteran from Bagley, is jailed in Guthrie county charged with leaving the scene of an injury death and driving while suspended after a bicycle rider, 8 year old Mark Lyle Winters of Yale, was struck on a gravel road. Menlo Mishap Hospitalizes Two Residents
Three people were injured in a two car crash at the Menlo highway intersection on May 30. Orville Buttler, Dale Lomax, and passenger George Twombly were involved when Buttler turned left into Lomax’s path. Buttler and Twombly were hospitalized, Lomax treated and released. Vehicles were destroyed.

New Industry Moves to Adair From Omaha Location
An industrial engineering firm announced a new facility in Adair after starting operations to relocate heavy equipment from Omaha. The 530 by 140 foot steel building on the city edge will house large lathes drill presses boring mills grinders welders and other machinery as work continues.

The six members of the low cost Senior Citizen's low rent housing corporation were reelected Wednesday at the annual meeting. C. H. Taylor, B. Crees, John Grove, Howard Ely, G. M Barnett and Norman Steensen were named to one year terms. Taylor was reelected president and Crees secretary treasurer. Menlo Entry Nets Hog Show at Waterloo Dairy Event
