Neighborly Hay Work Precedes Talk on CEO Area Program

New Owner For Adair News and Casey Vindicator

Ed Littler Jr became sole owner of the Adair News and Casey Vindicator after partnering with his brother Robert since January 1, 1966. Robert Littler will enter the radio and television repair business elsewhere, citing allergic reactions to printing materials as the reason for selling his share. Before the 1966 purchase, Ed Littler Sr had been publisher since 1937 and still writes a weekly column in the News.

Charge Driver After Mishap Near Bayard

A 16 year old Coon Rapids youth, Thomas Keith McConnell, was charged with failure to have his car under control after his vehicle rolled on Highway 141 east of Bayard. Investigating officer Bill Springer stated McConnell attempted to turn north from 141, the car left the road, he was not injured and damage was about $800.

Bagley youths appeal guilty verdicts in district court

Two Bagley youths Steve Whitecotton and Steve Gardner appealed a JP court guilty ruling in Bayard Ken Robinson’s court. They were charged with disturbing the peace and Whitecotton faced a reckless driving charge. Each was fined 100 dollars plus costs on the peace charge, and Whitecotton received another 100 dollars on the driving charge. Bond was posted and they were released pending appeal.

Guthrie County Schools Share Final State Aid Payment

Guthrie County seven districts received the final State Equalization Aid payment on June 21 from the State Comptroller. Totals for 1970-71 range Adair Casey 123,416 Bayard 65,418 Guthrie Center 113,347 Menlo 62,152 Panora Linden 109,507 Stuart 107,223 Union 81,501 totaling 662,654 for the year. An additional 186,020.66 from the 40 percent State Income Tax brings county total to 674.66? for the period. Districts await effect of new Iowa school foundation law effective 1972-73.

Guthrie County Youth Foundation Sets July Meeting

The Guthrie County Youth Foundation will hold its annual meeting at the 5x80 club on Tuesday July 27 at 7 p.m. Directors from two county areas will be elected and officers named after a board meeting. The foundation offers three $100 scholarships for 16 to 23 year olds to attend a vocational training school next school year. Eligibility requires need proven by financial statements forms from the foundation and references. A scholar selection committee will review confidential documents and choose recipients who are expected to continue education or enter a trade and return to Guthrie County.

Fire truck arrives for Panora Poora at Ames training
