Rick Artist Named to Luther College Deans List

Rick Artist of Decorah Luther College earned a place on the fall semester Deans List. To qualify a student must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and carry a minimum of 11 semester hours. Artist is the son of Delbert and wife from Adair and was a National Merit Scholarship recipient last year.

Services Set For Wednesday At United Presbyterian Guthrie Center

Death occurred Sunday of Mrs Amna Bechly after 11 years at Audubon Friendship Home and prior residence in Guthrie Center. Services planned Wednesday at 2 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center with interment in Union Cemetery. Nephew and several nieces survive. Mrs Bechly was the wife of the late Dr Bechly of Guthrie Center.

Flaws In New Education Center Near Sprinegbrook Park

The $450000 education complex near Sprinegbrook Park faces corrections before opening. Shaver Construction of Jefferson must fix loose floor tile, roof wall joints, narrow toilet doors, window openings, and water leakage. Two Accidents on North 3rd Street Cause Major Damage

A two vehicle crash on North 3rd Street Saturday led to about 1400 dollars in damage with no injuries. Mer lin Simmons in a pickup hit Tom Hall’s northbound car at an intersection. Simmons reported sighting the Hall car but could not stop in heavy traffic. The Simmons vehicle sustained about 800 dollars in damage. In a second incident, Wyman Darrell Bush of Coon Rapids struck cattle on a Hen ry Petersen road while driving down a hill. Bush’s car damage totaled around 300 dollars and two charges were filed.

Last Day Set for Corn and Bean Clinic in Guthrie

Tuesday marks the final day of two corn and soybean clinics at Guthrie Center City Hall for county farmers. Sessions run 9:30 AM to 3 PM with Larry Fossen of Ames presenting on dry cold high moisture corn storage and drying methods. A $1 per person fee covers expenses. 75 farmers attended last week’s fertilizer and yield session.

No Tractor Driving Until Class Completed

Farm employers who hire youths aged 14 or 15 to operate tractors must ensure they have completed a tractor operator training course and hold a certificate. Panora Faculty Seek 10 Percent Salary Increase

Panora teachers push for roughly 10 percent base pay boost for next year amid stalled talks with the board. A 6 percent rise near 2 increments is possible, while the Iowa Association advises a 3 percent base hike and stable increments. Faculty demand disability insurance extra duty pay and expanded benefits for coaching and directing duties. They seek base pay up $400 to $7,200 with higher annual increments, and salary contracts to be offered after March.

Three Hold on Theft Charge Near Yale Farm

Jerry Renslow 21 James Moorhead 19 and Donald Collins Perry were arrested Tuesday for petty larceny after stealing gas at a farm home north of Yale. Renslow got 15 days in county jail Moorhead 20 days by Justice of the Peace S E Robinson at a Wednesday hearing Collins returned to Perry with case to juvenile authorities.

Panora Youth Held on Drug Possession Charges

A 19 year old Panora youth was held on a $1500 bond at Guthrie county jail pending further investigation of possession of drugs. Identified as Ted Downin ard, he had several types and colors of pills in a small bottle. Capsules were sent to Ames testing lab with results expected Monday afternoon or Tuesday. Cowman was arrested Friday afternoon east of Guthrie Center under suspicion for some time on possession of drugs. He is the second Guthrie county youth in the past year charged on a drug count, following John Dailey of Bayard convicted last summer. Penalty for possession can not exceed one year in prison or a $1000 fine or both.

Dor Walters, March of Dimes campaign director, urged area residents to mail back their New Year's contribution. She said that the returned checks can help create a new life for one of the many infants born with birth defects each year.
