The Winnebago Area Council Cub and Boy Scouts in over 50 towns across nine Iowa counties conduct the Good Turn Day Clothing drive for Goodwill Industries. The drive runs October 7 and October 14 with bag delivery to Greene homes and bag collection for storage, focusing on clothing, shoes, toys, repairable appliances, kitchen utensils, bedding, blankets, and pillows. Newspapers and magazines are not collected.
Elmer White of Interstate Producers Livestock Association will address the Butler County Farm Bureau annual meeting at 7:00 p m in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison Iowa on Wednesday October 11 1967. The NPLA operates 48 daily markets including one in Allison Ken Wangsness manages one Iowa market Lester Schrage of Allison serves on IPLA board. White has long Farm Bureau service including roles in Illinois Wisconsin and with NPLA since 1962.
Mrs Herman Schroeder 70 died Tuesday morning at Floyd County Memorial Hospital after admission Monday. Born Ella Hilmer April 9 1897 at Allison she lived in Greene all her married life. Survived by six sons Roy Manchester Robert Washington Dale Carroll Earl Howard Greene. two daughters Verna Brett Benson MN Rowena Swedlund Portland OR. sixteen grandchildren. three sisters and three brothers. Funeral Saturday 2 PM at St Peters Lutheran with Rev Paul Metzger. burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Iowa Republican Chairman Robert D. Ray urged Towans to donate a dollar or more during the party's third annual Buck Night fund drive on September 28. He said nationwide surveys show 88 percent have never been asked to contribute to a party and stressed face-to-face, neighborhood solicitation to boost involvement and strengthen the party's organization for the 1968 campaigns.
The Quarterback Club held its first meeting on Tuesday September 19. Alphonse Wihli was elected President and Clyde Stuntz secretary treasurer. The group aims to raise funds to buy a movie camera and projector for the Greene football squad. Donations sought through Jim Drakle Max Heidenwirth Jim Stuntz and Bob Barth totaling 375 dollars. A fall Ramblers trip to a program is planned.
A Social Security Administration district representative will visit Allison Court House on October 4, 18, and 25 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. This visit is announced by Earl T. Johnson, district manager. People may also call the Waterloo district office at 234-1554, in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at W Fourth and Commercial Streets.
Leonard J. Hardy of Cedar Rapids has been named corporate manager personnel administration for Collins Radio Corporation. He will oversee four plants in Cedar Rapids Newport Beach Toronto and Dallas and move to Dallas in early November. Hardy has 18 years with the firm. his wife is a trained nurse.
Four generations of Barths were represented at the 1968 Chevrolet showing at Barth Chevrolet Inc last Thursday. Harry Barth the senior firm member with 27 years in Greene stands on the far right with his son Darrell beside him. On the far left is Robert Barth son of Darrell, and seated is Boyd Barth, Robert’s young son.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Kramer announce the birth of a son on September 2 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly. Brant Douglas weighs 8 pounds 3% ounces and joins siblings. Grandparents are Kurt Kramer of Bristow and Lowell Allen of Greene.
Albert William Steere 13, died suddenly at his Greene area farm. Born February 3, 1894, he married Mable Martzahn January 12, 1922. Survivors include wife three daughters Hilda Michael Lorene Wolf Bernice Wolf two sons Maynard Verle Steere one brother William Steere twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. Rites Friday September 29 at 2:30 PM at St Peter Lutheran Church, Rev. Paul Metzger officiating. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Hunter Safety Field Day set for Saturday at Albrecht woods near Greene. Staff expansion supports more than 200 registrants with instruction across seven stations from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration on site opens 9:30 a.m. and ends 10:00 a.m. Participants should bring lunch and rain gear, no guns beyond instructional use.
The annual Fall Conference of the Third Iowa District of The American Legion and The American Legion Auxiliary will be held at Blairstown on Saturday, September 30, 1967. Over 300 representatives from Benton to Wright counties expected, with Legion registration at 8:45 a.m. and Auxiliary at 8:30 a.m. Events include service school, instruction sessions, district board meeting, and a joint noon banquet.
Mr and Mrs Lynn Glass of Iowa City announce the birth of a son named Gregory Lynn at University Hospital in Iowa City. He weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was born on Monday September 25. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs V J Tatum of Greene and Mr and Mrs Wilbert Glass of Cedar Rapids.
Steven D. Barnett son of Mrs Iva J Barnett Greene is among over 800 cadets starting junior year at the U S Air Force Academy Colorado Springs He earned dean's list honors for academic excellence and will serve as wing staff operations and training officer with rank of cadet senior master sergeant He completed Army Airborne jump training at Ft Benning and earned the parachutist badge He also taught survival training at Rampart Range He will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and receive a B S degree after graduation, a Greene Community High School 1965 graduate He is active in cadet chorale Protestant choir ski and gun clubs.
Out of Hospital Mrs Zula Ramker was released from Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Tuesday and has been transferred to the Americana Home at Mason City.
Mr and Mrs Vern Van Raden and Daniel and Patti Jo returned from a week in Ishpeming Michigan where they visited son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Wayne Kaminen and their new grandson Kevin Jay born September 12 weighing 7 pounds 474 ounces They toured iron mines ore processing and lumber mills during the visit.
Cresco built a 14 point first quarter lead and held on as the Ramblers, who had Jeff Drakle and Rich Siemens, fought back late. Crestwood’s Nauman and Roche made key plays as Greene’s defense improved, but two late scoring drives were nullified by turnovers and an interception to preserve a 14 to 7 Crestwood victory at Riceville.
An adult ceramic and sculpturing class begins this evening at Greene High School. The first session and registration happen at 7:30 in art room No. 27. Enrollment is 7.50 for 10 two hour classes. A possible change in meeting night will be discussed.
The annual meeting of the Stockholders of the Round Grove Golf and Country Club will be held on Tuesday October 3rd at 7 00 p m at the Country Club. An oyster stew will be served followed by the business meeting. Officers and board members will be elected.

Mrs. Raymond Astor 69 of Arlington died at home Saturday September 16 after fifty years residency there. Survivors include nine children led by William R. Astor of Greene, 36 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral Tuesday at the Lutheran Church Arlington with burial at Taylorville Cemetery Arlington.
Marine Corporal Ronald W. Stewart of Greene and Charles City projects with the First Marine Aircraft Wing in South Vietnam. The unit grounds troops and airlifts, evacuates personnel, flies resupply missions, and provides close air support while conducting search and destroy missions. They also run civic action programs aiding wells, culverts, bridges, and schools with Marine Corps Reserve funding.
The State Conservation Commission reports the deer hunter back tag is discontinued for this season. Successful applicants for deer hunting permits will still receive the metal tags reporting card and license plus a map of hunting zones for gun hunters. The back tag, worn on the back and bearing the license number, will no longer be sent.
