Members of Troop 26 Boy Scouts citizenship merit badge class will attend next Monday night’s Greene City Council meeting. They arrive after the council opens to complete a board of review at 7:30 p.m. and then proceed to City Hall. The program emphasizes home and community participation over academics and aims to form a 3 Second committee to identify a community project with voting at the October meeting.
Larry Lee Slocum age 18 and Dennis Viers age 17 both of Greene were arrested early September 19 on a charge of putting glass and signs on a public highway. They pleaded guilty in Blair Moffett's Greene court and paid 50 dollar fines plus four dollars costs after admitting placing signs tires and blocks on Highway 14. Kenneth Raymond age 15 of Greene also appeared September 20 and pleaded guilty to the same charge, paying 20 dollars plus four dollars costs.
Robert Lee, long time employee of the B and W store for over twenty years, departed Sunday by bus from Waterloo to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri to begin basic Army training.
Butler County seniors will attend a morning education fair October 2 at the Farm Bureau Building Allison. Thirty eight? forty representatives from four year colleges junior colleges trade and vocational schools will be on site for consultations. Superintendent Mitchell of Allison and Butler County Educational Coordinator Guy Olson organize the program.
George A. Crabtree 89 of Ventura California died Monday night September 17 at General Hospital Ventura He was born in Marble Rock lived in Greene Waterloo Hudson Spencer and for 14 years in Ventura A barber over 50 years he later served as Greene marshal for two years Married September 8 1895 to Mary Frances Elam she died in 1948 Survived by three daughters Claire Moon Marble Rock Galen Rex Marble Rock and Harry Parsons of Ojai California two half sisters Leta Hedrick Cedar Rapids Lillian Cole Corning California twelve grandchildren twenty nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren Cremation occurred in Ventura with ashes sent to Greene Rose Hill Cemetery Memorial services at Reid Hamilton Funeral Chapel call for details
Greene High School marks Homecoming this Friday September 28 as Riceville meets Greene in an 8 pm football game. Queen candidates Sara Green Rene Hagarty Joyce Kelly Diane Cheney and JoAnn Backer will be voted on Friday with the winner crowned at halftime. A Thursday pep rally precedes a Friday float parade and halftime ceremonies. The public is invited. The homecoming dance runs 10 pm to 1 am in the school auditorium.
The Winnebago Area council announces a Good Turn Day clothing drive by Cub and Boy Scouts in over 50 towns across nine Iowa counties. Bags will be delivered October 6 with returns on October 13, to stock Goodwill Industries for the handicapped. Items needed include clothing, shoes, toys, repairable electrical appliances, kitchen utensils, bedding, blankets, and pillows. Newspapers and magazines are excluded.
The 1963 Chevrolets and 1963 Fords will be shown this Friday September 28 in Greene. Earth Chevrolet Inc will display the 1963 Chevrolets and Klassi Motors will exhibit the 1963 Fords.
Greene High School students recently completed the Iowa Tests of Educational Development. The tests are given annually to all high school students and scored at the University of Iowa. Results help analyze progress, identify instructional needs, compare education quality with similar schools, aid guidance, and become part of each student’s permanent high school record.
Infant Brenda Lee Cassmann baptized during Sunday worship at St. Peters Lutheran Church. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Lindell. Baptismal dinner hosted at the Cassmann home with Mr. and Mrs. Lindell and Marilyn in attendance.
The Four Knight's will provide music and invite all students alumni parents and friends to attend. Admission will be charged at the door and refreshments will be served during the evening.

Calease son of Mr and Mrs John Calease born in Black Hawk County March 24 1889 died at University Hospital in Iowa City on Thursday September 20 funeral services were in Clarksville Community Church with Rev Robert Davies and burial in Lynwood Cemetery he survived by his wife two sons two daughters seventeen grandchildren four great grandchildren two sisters and one brother
Greene Community High proposes evening adult classes for 12 or more students in 10 week courses. Offerings include art sewing cooking shorthand typing bookkeeping welding auto mechanics and modern business math. Interested adults should contact Mr Gard by letter or postcard with two or three preferred classes and call 215 for answers.
Sylvester Eichenberger of New Hampton faces a stop sign violation charge in which he must pay a $5.00 fine and $4.00 costs.
The Butler County Central Committee and Republican candidates will meet October 1 at 8:00 PM at Polly's Cafe in Parkersburg. Leo M. Sweesy and Mrs. Judy Fossum will attend to assist with county election planning.
The Rambler B squad defeated host Dumont Varsity 40 to 6 with three touchdowns by Roger Weichers, two by Steve Clapham, and one by Ronald Stewart. Clapham and Ott stood out, and the defense contained Dumont. The B team hosts Klemme on Saturday October 6. Freshmen games schedule includes Marble Rock today and others through October 22. junior high games run October 8, 11, and 16 at various sites.
Joe Wood went back to the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines on Monday for further treatment and surgery. Ellis Bammann was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Monday under observation and treatment, with room 339 noted.
Greene Ramblers defeat Crestwood 27 to 7 as Stauffer Kingery and Weichers power a strong ground game. Crestwood's lone score comes late. Greene hosts Riceville in Homecoming and opens Corn Bowl Conference play.
Mrs D. C. Marsh and her sister Mrs Elsie Laughery depart for a month visiting relatives in Fargo North Dakota and San Diego California and attend the Seattle World’s Fair.
The Greene High School senior class launched a subscription drive from October 1 to October 31 to raise funds for the spring class trip and remaining 1982 63 activities. Each student must earn a set fee, after which they may earn for themselves, with duplicate receipts issued. Class sponsors are Mrs Helene Boller LaVerne Kehoe and Nancy Mitchell.
The First Presbyterian Church of Greene marks 100 years since 1863 with June 2 origin date and centennial services led by former pastors and a guest speaker. A centennial supper is planned for October 10 to help fund events, with a brochure listing charter members and church developments.
Peter Ascher, 4s, of Ap lington appeared in District Court on September 18 and pled guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Judge Butler fined $300.60 plus $13.00 cost, paid. Ascher was arrested near Parkersburg on September 15 by the Highway Patrol.
