Parade of Books closes Greene Public Library program

The Greene Public Library summer reading program Parade of Books ends with 64 children enrolled and 1115 books read over twelve weeks. Jerald Greimer Killed In Late Night Crash

Jerald Lee Greimer 27 of Garner died after his car struck the south side of a bridge abutment near Dumorton Highway no 3. He was alone, eastbound, and the Butler County incident marks the county’s fifth fatality of 1962.

Craig Fishel Charged With Assault

Craig Fishel age 22 of Allison was arrested September 15 by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth on a charge of Assault and Battery. He is accused of assaulting Laren Reiher in Allison on September 8. He appeared in Frank Knights court in Greene and had a venue moved to Blair Moffett's court. He pleaded not guilty and posted a $100 appearance bond. Trial date to be set later.

Ida Henke Rites Tuesday in Greene Iowa

Ida Beatrice Henke born November 22 1866 in Marquette Iowa died September 15 1962 at Rockford Convalescent Home Rockford Iowa. She moved with family to Coldwater township then Marquette and Greene where she resided since 1887. Survived by two sisters and several relatives. Bishops Players to stage two church plays near Greene

The Bishops Players will present Cry the Beloved Country at Janesville and The Devil and Daniel Webster at First Methodist in Cedar Falls on September 27 and 28. Originating on the west coast, the amateur group grew from church productions to a professional company.

Four H Citizenship Program Prep Planned by Conference Delegates

Rites Held for Mrs. Ed Hanley

Mrs. Ed Hanley 78 died Thursday at Clark Rest Home where she had been a patient since December. Born Katherine O’Brien April 13 1884 in McGregor she married Ed Hanley October 29 1914. They farmed then retired to Greene. Survived by brother John O’Brien Sr and several nieces and nephews. Requiem High Mass St Marys Church officiated by Rev J B Murphy. Interment in St Marys Cemetery. Williams Mortuary directed arrangements.

A reception for the Greene Community Schools teachers was held at the high school gym Tuesday evening. S. J. LeBlanc of Newton discussed the new dial system. Principal Vern Gard introduced the teachers. Miss Glendal Landsgaard sang with Ruth Barnett at the piano. About 150 attended. films traced telephone development and dial usage.

Highway Patrol arrested Larry Lee Krull 21 of Waverly near Clarksville Friday on operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated charge. Krull appeared in Allison Justice Court. bond set at 500 dollars. Returned Home From Paris Trip in September Visit

Genevieve du Jonday returned home Sunday evening from Paris where she spent two months with her family Mr and Mrs M Kirk Sperry, accompanied by Mr and Mrs George Latch of Renwick. They spent four months in the Northeast visiting Lake Shore drive around Lake Superior fast in Southern Canada to the Gospel Peninsula New Brunswick Prince Edward Island Nova Scotia Cape Breton and the Northeastern states including a brief stop at Niagara Falls.

Ramblers Fall to Britt in Friday Night Opener

Britt overcame a 13 7 deficit to beat the Ramblers 20 13 in Cresco Friday night. Plan Soil Surveys For County Farmers

About 30 Butler County farmers will have their farms soil surveyed this year by Soil Scientists of the Soil Conservation Service. Edward Bruns will determine soil types slopes and erosion on each farm. The survey data will be plotted on an aerial photo to inventory the area and guide a soil and water conservation farm plan.
