The Allison Sheriff's Office investigates the theft of a new Case Stalk Shredder from Dick's Implement in Bristow on Sunday night. The $790 shredder is believed to have been towed away by a car or pickup.
The Greene Public Library summer reading program Parade of Books ends with 64 children enrolled and 1115 books read over twelve weeks. Jerald Lee Greimer 27 of Garner died after his car struck the south side of a bridge abutment near Dumorton Highway no 3. He was alone, eastbound, and the Butler County incident marks the county’s fifth fatality of 1962.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars announces its 1963 membership drive. Veterans interested in joining should contact Bill Walker Florian Rutz or Howard Raisty. The local VFW meets on the third Monday each month at the Veterans Club with movies shown at meetings for the rest of the year.
Craig Fishel age 22 of Allison was arrested September 15 by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth on a charge of Assault and Battery. He is accused of assaulting Laren Reiher in Allison on September 8. He appeared in Frank Knights court in Greene and had a venue moved to Blair Moffett's court. He pleaded not guilty and posted a $100 appearance bond. Trial date to be set later.
Ida Beatrice Henke born November 22 1866 in Marquette Iowa died September 15 1962 at Rockford Convalescent Home Rockford Iowa. She moved with family to Coldwater township then Marquette and Greene where she resided since 1887. Survived by two sisters and several relatives. Funeral Tuesday at 2 PM Reid Hamilton Funeral Chapel with Rev G F Butler officiating. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery Greene.
The Bishops Players will present Cry the Beloved Country at Janesville and The Devil and Daniel Webster at First Methodist in Cedar Falls on September 27 and 28. Originating on the west coast, the amateur group grew from church productions to a professional company.

Mr and Mrs Carroll welcomed a daughter Veronica Jo born Monday September 17 weighing 7 pounds 144 ounces. Mrs Carroll is Donna Barth, daughter of Albert Barth.
Daryl Fischer son of Mr and Mrs Robert Fischer was admitted to Park Hospital in Mason City for asthma treatment and expects to stay a few days. Mrs Ike Shultz is a patient in Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for treatment.
Five generations unite in a single photo as Larry Maass of Waterloo prepares to depart August 30 for Korea with the Army. The image includes his mother Mrs. Merle Maass of Waterloo, great grandmother Mrs. Ed Brown of Greene, his son Linn, and grandfather Leo Brown of Charles City. Mrs. Maass and Linn live in Arizona with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Milton Trout, formerly of Osage.
Gerald W. Curtis was charged with drinking beer on a highway. He paid a $5.00 fine and $7.00 in costs.

4-H members from Suter County who attended the Town 4-H Conference in June will run a Citizenship program this fall in Butler County clubs. Delegates visit October meetings to initiate the program and train club reps to continue locally. Key organizers include Boelman, Cor des, Frey, Hagarty, Hansen, Janssen, Kaiser, Mohn, and Schultz.
Mrs. Ed Hanley 78 died Thursday at Clark Rest Home where she had been a patient since December. Born Katherine O’Brien April 13 1884 in McGregor she married Ed Hanley October 29 1914. They farmed then retired to Greene. Survived by brother John O’Brien Sr and several nieces and nephews. Requiem High Mass St Marys Church officiated by Rev J B Murphy. Interment in St Marys Cemetery. Williams Mortuary directed arrangements.
Corn Bowl Conference announces new admission levels for all sports to take effect with the Riceville game on September 28. Football adults priced at 1.00, students 0.50. basketball adults 0.75, students 0.35. wrestling adults 0.75, students 0.35. Local schools may sell student activity tickets covering all home games.
Mrs Anna DeMar underwent an emergency appendectomy on Saturday evening at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The operation was performed without complications and she is reported to be recovering in the hospital.

A reception for the Greene Community Schools teachers was held at the high school gym Tuesday evening. S. J. LeBlanc of Newton discussed the new dial system. Principal Vern Gard introduced the teachers. Miss Glendal Landsgaard sang with Ruth Barnett at the piano. About 150 attended. films traced telephone development and dial usage.
Highway Patrol arrested Larry Lee Krull 21 of Waverly near Clarksville Friday on operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated charge. Krull appeared in Allison Justice Court. bond set at 500 dollars. Peter Ascher 48 of Applington arrested near Parkersburg Saturday night. appeared in Allison Justice Court. bond set at 500 dollars. Both posted bond and were released from the County jail in Allison.
Genevieve du Jonday returned home Sunday evening from Paris where she spent two months with her family Mr and Mrs M Kirk Sperry, accompanied by Mr and Mrs George Latch of Renwick. They spent four months in the Northeast visiting Lake Shore drive around Lake Superior fast in Southern Canada to the Gospel Peninsula New Brunswick Prince Edward Island Nova Scotia Cape Breton and the Northeastern states including a brief stop at Niagara Falls.
Mr and Mrs John Hayungs of Floyd and Mrs Archie Raymond Kenneth spent Sunday in Iowa City visiting Darrell Haytngs at the University Hospital. On Monday Darrell underwent plastic surgery on his nose. His address is Ward 21 Room 7 University Hospital Iowa City Iowa.
Britt overcame a 13 7 deficit to beat the Ramblers 20 13 in Cresco Friday night. Schrader directed the Eagles with key passes to Davidson and DeWard, while Stauffer and Kingery powered the Rambler offense before costly penalties and Britt’s defense sealed the victory. The Ramblers travel to Cresco next for a 7 45 kickoff and the B squad goes to Dumont Monday.
About 30 Butler County farmers will have their farms soil surveyed this year by Soil Scientists of the Soil Conservation Service. Edward Bruns will determine soil types slopes and erosion on each farm. The survey data will be plotted on an aerial photo to inventory the area and guide a soil and water conservation farm plan. If interested contact the local Soil Conservation District Office.
