The Winnebago Area Council Cub and Boy Scouts plan a two Saturday Good Turn Day clothing drive across nine Iowa counties to aid Goodwill Industries. On October 5 they will deliver bags to Greene homes, then on October 12 return to collect filled bags for storage before pickup by donor trucks the following week. Target items include clothing shoes toys repairable appliances and kitchen tools with extra need for bedding and pillows. Newspapers and magazines are excluded.
Meservey Thornton scored the only touchdown on a second quarter pass and then held the Rambler reserves scoreless to win 7 to 0 at Thornton last Saturday night. Dennis Edwards ran well at halfback while Gary Ross and Merlin Schuknecht starred on the line.

Henry Groeneveld of Parkersburg with Ford. and Etta Mae Schurmann of Parkersburg with Mercury.
Keith H Dralle YN3 son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Dralle arrived home September 12 after two years aboard the USS Shangrala. He is now attending junior college in Mason City.
Mrs. Anna Mather died September 18 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after a short illness. She was born May 30 1899 near Greene, married Vernon Hardy in 1919, had three daughters, later married Dayton Mather in 1955 and lived in Greene. Survived by husband three daughters one step daughter two step sons sixteen grandchildren three great grandchildren three brothers and three sisters. Funeral at Church of the Brethren on Saturday at 2 PM with burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
The final stag supper of the year is set for Tuesday evening October 1 at Round Grove Golf and Country Club. Committee members include James Mead Leonard Nichol Lewis Majewski Galen Martz abn Glen Maxson Everett Squires Lyle Maxson Gene Nettleton Dean Ott Vern Rattler and Stanley Roose.
The 1964 Chevroles and Fords will be showcased with dates set for Thursday September 26 at Earth Chevrolet Inc. and Friday September 27 at Klassi Motors. Refreshments will be served.
Butler County seniors join a.From 9:00 to 11:15 a.m. October 1 at Aplington High School for a session with three representatives from forty schools. Four year colleges junior colleges trade and vocational schools nursing and beauty programs attend. Guy Olson coordinates.
Mrs. Paul Ott of Glendale California visits the homes of Dale Ott Charles City and Harry Ott and Dean Ott in Greene Iowa to spend time with relatives and friends in the area.
The North Central Iowa Area Executive Committee elected officers at its second Mason City meeting on September 17. Henry C. Nelson was named chairman, Robert Rost vice chairman, and Maynard Jaspars secretary. The group from nine counties drew up procedures, named four study committees Agriculture, Business and Industry, Education and Recreation and Tourism, and set a monthly meeting cadence. The counties involved are Winnebago Worth Mitchell Hancock Cerro Gordo Floyd Wright Franklin and Butler, with Wright and Butler joining partially. A tentative name and media coordination plan were proposed, and an economic base study was requested from Town University. A dance at Round Grove Golf and Country Club is scheduled for September 28, with additional events planned at the Veterans Club. the Robert Kappel Orchestra will provide music.
Douglas Jewell the son of Mr and Mrs Aaron Jewell underwent an emergency appendectomy at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Sunday evening.

Robert Herb Hillegas born September 19 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing eight pounds four ounces. Scott Edward Henning born September 23 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing nine pounds. Carol Maric Schipper born September 5 at City weighs nine pounds five ounces. Mrs Hillegas and baby returned home.

Vern Gardé announces night classes at Greene Community School with courses in knitting typing art and economics focused on school finance. Aiming for ten week sessions at 500 tuition with a Wednesday October 2 meeting in the home economics room to gauge interest and form minimum classes.
Dr and Mrs C Peck attended funeral services for Mrs Peck's brother Harry Chandler 65 held Saturday afternoon at Larkin Funeral Chapel in Lawler. Mr Chardie died Wednesday morning in the Veterans Hospital in Town City after a few days as a patient.
The Greene Community School board elected Harry Ott as president for the coming year at its regular meeting on Monday September 16. Other board members elected on September 9 include Ivan Schafer and John Van Eschen, with Gardon Anderson and Clyde Stunt also serving. The group discussed the year’s educational plans.
Joan Scott suffered a sudden heart attack on September 17 and will be confined to bed for three weeks.
The Rev Carl F. E. Kurt pastor of Mars Church at Ilona and Rural Life director leads Forty Hours of Devotion at St Marys Church starting with Mass at 6 00 am Friday September 27. Devotions center on worship with Christ as the focus and recall the time the Lord lay in the tomb.
Applications for the Navy eighteenth annual NROTC qualification test are now available. The nationwide exam will be held December 14, 1963, and eligible male high school seniors and graduates may apply. Registration closes November 22, with information from Gerald Stephenson or the nearest U S Navy Recruiting Station.

Albert Barth underwent surgery Tuesday morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. AF Lindell entered Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Sunday and underwent major surgery Monday morning.
Robert Thomas Williams, 38, of Waterloo, appeared in Instrict Court on Friday September 20 and pleaded swifty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He paid a 30000 fine and 1350 costs after arrest July 17 by highway patrol between Parkersburg and Allison on Highway 14.
Jim Marshall of Greene placed third in the consolation division at Nashua on Saturday evening. The season championship for the top twenty drivers is set for next Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Big 4 Fairgrounds in Nashua.
Cub Scout football practice is set for Saturday September 28 from 9 to 11 am at the high school football practice field. Mike Mead and Tom Teeple will oversee the session.
Cresco Cadets rallied to tie the Ramblers 13 13 in a tense open conference clash at Riceville. Greene’s 279 rushing yards faced a late surge as a key blocked punt turned the tide, and a controversial ruling gave Cresco prime field position late in the opening quarter.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars collected $61.42 on Buddy Poppy Day. Florian Rutz and Bull Walker led the drive, sending funds to the Veterans Home in Benton Harbor Michigan for orphans and widows of service members. Poppies were sold by Kenny, Dennis and Spencer Walker, Valerie Starkweather, Patt, Rutz, and Dariene Ratsty.

The Iowa State Conservation Commission announced deer license drawings for 1963 shotgun season. Envelopes containing one to five antlerless deer permits are processed. last year 9,165 envelopes were received for 10,000 licenses. This year 106,457 envelopes were received, up 15,901 from 1962. About 12,000 licenses have been authorized, 2,000 more than last year, as the deer herd is estimated over 33,000 entering fall.
The Butler County Bauca thon Association held its fall dinner meeting at New Hartford School on a Tuesday evening, September 17, with about 125 county teachers present. Speakers included M John Harold, Secretary of the Iowa State Education Association, and Mrs Marie Perkins.
