Nashua dominates with 201 rushing yards to 112 by Nashua, despite Rams’ three interceptions and four Nashua fumbles. Greene Ramblerettes Rally For Veiled Volley Match

The Greene Ramblerettes faced Osage last Thursday in a close volleyball bout. Osage, ranked eighth in the state, reached the quarterfinals last year. Greene JV lost a tight opener but won the first game 15 3 before dropping the next two 15-8 15-10. Varsity scores were 15-3 15-8 15-3. Greene shows improvement as crowd enjoyed extended rallies. Next, they host 12th rated Mason City Tuesday and North Central of Manly Thursday at home.

Greene residents push for volunteer ambulance service

A Greene movement seeks public input on starting a volunteer ambulance program. Fifteen volunteers have agreed to training for a locally based service, should a patrol ambulance be purchased. If funded, a drive would raise money for a used unit in the 20 000 to 32 000 price range.

Bike-A-Thon for Diabetes in Waverly Sept 26

Guidelines Established for Butler County Hall of Fame Candidates

The Butler County Bicentennial Commission approves election rules for the Hall of Fame. Elected 16 electors plus alternates from each township, rotation by year starting 1977, terms vary by class year, majority vote required, by laws provided to each elector, meetings in March, nominations by Butler County residents, resumes required, up to 10 inductees yearly, Roberts Rules of Order guiding proceedings.

Sara Cordes 3rd in Steer of Merit at Iowa State Fair

Sara Cordes 18, daughter of M M Wilbur Cordes of Allison, earned 3rd place in the Steer of Merit at the Iowa State Fair per Virgil L. Schmitt. Live placings put her steer 1st among 4-H entries. The animal weighed 1176 lbs at 2.47 lbs per day of age, produced a 732 lb carcass at 62% of live weight, with Good quality and 14.5 in Loin Eye, .2 in fat, 52.95% cutability and 1.7 yield grade.

Greene man, Grassley aide, Bicentennial trip to Washington

Joe Needham of Greene served five months as a legislative aide to Iowa Congressman Charles Grassley during the U S Bicentennial year. He joined a midnight July 3 line at the National Archives to view the Declaration and Constitution, saw the Lincoln Memorial and fireworks, gave Capitol tours, and praised Grassley as a servant leader. He toured the Capitol with families, met groups, and enjoyed Iowa Day events at Kennedy Center and Capitol.
