Bicentennial Reading Program honors top Greene public readers
Nineteen children in grades 2 to 6 enrolled in Greene Public Library’s Bicentennial Summer Reading Program with Melissa Ferch named top reader. Other top finishers include Curtis Nixt Sean Larson Ted Kock Jeff Wunsch and Twila Kock. All enrollees may collect cards and Bicentennial bookmarks at the library. Lawn Griffiths the Waterloo Courier farm editor will speak at the 4-H Leader Recognition program on Sept 21 at 7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.

Cub Scout orientation night at Community Center

FHA approves loan for Greene Housing Development
The Farmers Home Administration has approved a 137000 dollar loan to Greene Housing Development Corporation to build a rural rental housing center in Greene. The non profit plans nine apartment units with modern conveniences for seniors at affordable retirement income prices. Francis L. Brinkman leads the Greene group.

Rams 08 opener looks to bounce back in jug battle
The Rams open the 1976 Cornbowl season at home Friday night against the Nashua Bulldogs in the annual Little Brown Jug game. Greene fell 6-0 to Sheffield in the opener as Greene’s offense managed 48 total yards and the defense limited Sheffield to six first downs. Denny Delp led Rams with 23 tackles, Downing rushed 58 yards on 13 carries, and a fake punt 34-yard run stood out amid a stagnant passing game and multiple sacks. The Rams suit up for another test in the jug clash, aiming to improve offensively Friday.

Themed “old fashioned school” the event featured roll call histories and praise for organization, food, and teamwork.
