Mr and Mrs Richard Winter of Iowa City announce the birth of a son on September 9. The infant weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and is named Richard Michael. Mrs Winter is formerly Ellen Hoben daughter of Dr and Mrs J P Hoben.
Mrs Wayne Thomason and daughter Carolyn were injured when their car was hit while turning left from Highway 218 onto Sager Avenue in Waterloo. William W. Asher of Cedar Falls drove the other vehicle. Mrs Thomason suffered a fractured right collarbone rib fractures and head cuts. Carolyn received a fractured collarbone. Both were hospitalized at St. Francis in Waterloo. Mr Thomason and daughter Lynette were treated and released.
An Open House event is planned at Greene Community Elementary School on Wednesday evening September 29. The program begins at 7 30 p m with time after for visiting teachers. Coffee and donuts will be served. Parents and friends are invited.
The men of Round Grove Golf and Country Club plan a September 30 event at the club house with dinner dancing and cards. A social hour runs 6:00 to 7:00 followed by dinner. Mr and Mrs Leonard Nichol and Mr and Mrs Clarence Barmett lead the committee. Members should contact the committee for tickets.
Recommended practices for cattle grub control will be demonstrated next Wednesday September 29 at Aplington. Dr Harold Stockdale Extension Entomologist at Iowa State University will present approved grub control methods to the Aplington Adult Farmer Class and other interested attendees. The meeting will be at the Aplington Sales Barn starting at 745 PM. All cattlemen are urged to attend.

A county wide Career Night for the high school students of Butler and Franklin Counties will be held October 12 at the Allison-Bristow High School. At 7:30 p.m. Charles R Moench will give a presentation on employment trends. Students may visit representatives from airline occupations auto mechanic barber and more. Pre-enrollment forms will be handed out the week of September 27 by school counselors. Parents welcome. Dean Johnson and Guy Olson are in charge.
Mrs. S. W. Downs is a patient in Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City after treatment on Friday night. A. D. Campbell went to Osage Memorial Hospital on Tuesday of last week for x-rays and treatment.
The State Conservation Commission notes the nine day teal hunting season ends sundown Sunday September 19. From September 19 to October 2 it is illegal to shoot waterfowl. Goose season opens October 2, ducks and coots start October 23. No evaluations are available yet but data is expected in four to six weeks.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Curtis welcomed twins Dean and Jan born September 16 at Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital. Dean weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces at 10 40 am and Jan weighed 5 pounds 1134 ounces at 10 44 am. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Edwin Marten and Mr and Mrs Claire Curtis. Mrs Curtis and the twins returned home Saturday morning.

The Allison Trojans edged the Rambler reserves 20 to 7. Key plays featured Wabbena’s 9 yard run and a late touchdown by Hinders plus a successful pass for the extra point. Greene’s defense held in stretches while Allison capitalized on Rambler penalties and turnovers to secure the win. Next week the reserves host Paumont’s varsity at 7 45 p.m.
Leon James Glaspie, 20, was driving a 1961 Chevrolet when it left the highway and rolled down the east side of the viaduct at Greene's north edge around 3 00 a m Sunday. He was found by Ralph Potter at 6 30 a m and rushed to Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City with back injuries and bruises. Butler County Sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
The Federal Power Commission plans hearings in Washington on gas service for nine Iowa communities served by Peoples Natural Gas. The move follows Northern Natural Gas Company of Omaha applying to extend gas lines to about 1531 towns in four states. Iowa towns affected include Adair Bellevue Greene Miles Onawa Preston Sabula Vincent and others in Greene and surrounding areas.
The Quarterbees Club will meet every Tue in the High school cafeteria through the football season.
Funeral services for Martha Kammeyer aged 87 were conducted at Vilmar Church by Rev. E Tsch. She was born June 1 1878 in Du Page County Illinois and died at Clark Rest Home Greene. Survivors include daughter Mrs Emil Blaas and son John Kammever plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial followed at Vilmar Church Cemetery.
Relatives announce the death of I Kebbermann 30 of Fort Dodge on Tuesday morning. He was formerly Etta Merfeld Greene. Funeral services are pending in Fort Dodge.

Iowa City SSCC will hold a diagnostic and evaluation clinic for children under 21 with chronic or crippling conditions at First Methodist Church 801 Kelly Street Charles City on Friday October 8. About 450 4-H club members in Butter County will observe National 4-H Club Week September 25 to October 2. Dean Johnson, County Extension Agent, notes 94,800 clubs nationwide in urban rural and town areas across 50 states and Puerto Rico. Special activities include three radio shows on KWVY Waverly and window displays in every town. Participants will wear the official 4-H uniform to church on Sunday September 26 and to the event on Wednesday September. The week aims to recruit members aged 10 to 19 and encourage parent involvement, enlist more leaders, recognize supporters, and promote 4-H locally and nationally. Donald Litterer, son of Mr and Mrs Louis Litterer, has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He visited his parents and relatives in Bloomington and Forest Lake Minnesota over the past two weeks. He will return to Fort Leonard Wood Thursday to attend a Cook's School.
Crestwood edges Ramblers 7 to 6 as Greene’s defense stalls late. Darvined Barnett injures knee early third, limiting Ramblers as Hagarty and Barth spark late rally but time runs out. Crestwood’s 70 yard TD run keys the visitors’ lead and final stop preserves the win.
Nina Heinmiller 72 of Waverly died after eight days in Flood Memorial Hospital born September 30 1882 in Elma Iowa. Survived by husband Julius J Heinmiller and many relatives including four daughters Leona Greene and Ruth Bronsema among thirty four grandchildren. Services Thursday at 1 30 pm at Peace United Church of Christ Waverly with Rev Ralph Wedeking officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery Read’s Funeral Chapel in charge.
The Winnebago Area Council Scouts in over 50 towns across nine counties plan the Good Turn Day Clothing Drive for Goodwill Industries. Cub Scouts will deliver bags on October 2 in Greene, then Boy Scouts will pick up filled bags on October 9 at a central station for storage and later pickup by Goodwill trucks. The drive seeks clothing, shoes, toys, repairable electrical appliances, kitchen utensils, bedding, blankets, and pillows, excluding newspapers and magazines.
