NIAD Plan September 21 Regional Workshop Attendance

NIAD Communities urged to send reps to the Iowa Development Commission regional economic development workshop at the Hotel Hanford Mason City on September 21. Error in Beaver Trapping Season Dates

State Conservation Commission officials said an error appeared in the Hunting and Trapping Seasons and Limits insert. The 1965 beaver trapping season opens at noon December 18, 1965 and closes February 28, 1966, not October 16 as printed. The December 18 opening applies to state game management areas. officials regret the error.

Greene Leads in Tax Collections For Fiscal Year

The Iowa State Tax Commission reports Butler County sales tax totals for the year ending June 30, 1965. Greene tops with 69710.27, Allison second at 64456.11, Parkerburg third at 54475.67, Clarksville fourth with 40372.96, followed by Aplington and others. County totals include 100 use tax returns worth 4612.53 and 900 vehicle sales totaling 49727.95.

National Plowing Matches Set For This Week End

The 1965 National Plow Match will be held at Wasera Minnesota on Friday and Saturday September 17th and 18th. This is the 20th postwar plowing contest with farmers from over twenty states competing for national honors on Saturday morning. Minnesota state matches take place Friday morning, with entertainers scheduled from 2 00 to 4 00 p m Saturday.

Greene Locker Sale Announces Ownership Change

Kenneth Stewart announced the sale of the Greene Locker to Charles Smith of Kesley and Ed Heyenga of Allison. Stewart ran the business nine years. Smith, a Kesley Locker employee two years, is married to Kathy Shreve of Greene with one seven month old daughter Christine. The Smiths moved into the Darwin Shreve home on High School Boulevard. Heyenga lives in Allison and has worked the past year at B and W Food Market in Clarion.

Brinkman Hagarty Win Election to Local School Board

Ray Brinkman and Donald Hagarty won seats on the Greene Community School Board in Monday’s election. Brinkman ran unopposed in Coldwater township. Hagarty defeated Paul Cheney 92 to 78 in Dayton township. Both will serve three terms ending September 1968. Mrs. James Graven re elected to Butler County Board of Education, unopposed with 164 votes from Coldwater. Burton Sprole, unopposed in Area No. 2, re elected from Allison district.

Thieves entered Greene Comm Elementary C Ye Community A n Community and Shed Rock schools between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. They forced entry through unlocked doors, targeted offices, and rifled safes and cabinets, stealing about 90 dollars in cash, checks, and other items while causing property damage. The Clarksville and Allison school offices were investigated. a fireproof file and safe were destroyed. Authorities pursue leads.

Former Resident Karl Timblin Dies in California

Karl Timblin died in a California hospital after living in Yorba Linda area. Born September 21, 1896 near Greene, son of William and Mary Bragg Timblin, he married in 1920 and moved to California in 1923. Survivors include his wife, a sister Mrs. Ru Compton of Maywood, and a brother Verle Timlin of Sioux City. He served in World War I in France. funeral held in Yuewo, California.

Farmers May Apply For Gas Tax Refunds Extension

Butler County farmers can still apply for a federal gas tax refund of 4 cents per gallon for fuel used in farming. Claims for refunds on fuel used from 1964 through June 30 1965 must be filed by September 30 1965. Iowa farmers should submit IRS Form 2240 to the U S District Director of Internal Revenue in Des Moines. Connelly urges those needing forms to visit his Allison office.

Courthouse to Close Saturdays In Butler County

Butler County officials voted to shutter the courthouse on Saturdays citing minimal weekday activity and rising costs. A district court judge ruled a prior General Assembly law requiring Saturday hours unconstitutional, prompting the shift. John Backer Enlisted in Air Force

John S. Backer son of VI and Mrs John J Backer of Greene enlisted in the Air Force and is at Lackland Air Force Base San Antonio Texas for basic training. He graduated in June from Mason City Junior College and worked that summer as a draftsman at the Oliver Corporation in Charles City.

Mrs. P Schommer 64 of Jesup died Thursday at University Hospital Iowa City after a lingering illness. Survived by two daughters Jerr Fimers Greene and Dorothy Ciesielski Jesup. two sons Tern Masonville and Duane Ocliffe. seventeen grandchildren. four great grandchildren. two sisters Mrs John Gales and Mrs Charles Weed Waterloo. Three Heavy Fines Paid in District Court at Allison

Vernon John, 28, of Ackley, appeared in District Court September 10 pleading guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated second offense. Essman paid a $500 fine plus $1400 cost after arrest in Greene August 14 by Greene Marshal Arthur Wiess. Winkowitsch of Anlinston pleaded guilty to license suspension driving and paid $100 fine plus $13 cost, arrested near Applineton August 14 by the Highway Patrol. Fred Pat Gronigan, 58, of Marshalltown, appeared in District Court September 8 for driving while license under suspension, pleaded guilty and paid $1000 fine plus $1300 cost. arrested near Dumont on June 5 by the Highway Patrol.
