Savings bond sales in Butler County for August totaled $48,348, lifting eight month total to $749,054, 66 percent of the 1960 quota. The county’s August average is 66 percent, town average 63 percent, national average 64 percent. John McWhirter of Allison, county chairman, reports August Iowa sales at $9,197,208 and eight month total at $97,816,911.
The first Pack No. 26 meeting occurs at 7:30 p.m. in Greene high school cafeteria on Wednesday September 28. Boys will be assigned to dens by age and rank as the year’s program is outlined. Parents with 8 to 10 year old non scouts are invited. contact Bob Shultz for details.
Jim Barth son of Mr and Mrs Gale Barth is on a 15 day leave with his family from the Naval Air Force Base at Memphis Tennessee He will travel to Pensacola Florida at the end of his leave.
The 1960 Iowa hunting and trapping seasons cover Squirrel from September 17 to December 11 with a bag limit of six, Rabbit September 17 to February 19 with 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. hours and bag limit ten, Pheasant November 5 to 28, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with bag limit three, Quail November 5 to December 4 with bag limit ten, Partridge November 5 to 28 with 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and bag limit two, Raccoon from 12 noon October 24 to midnight February 10, Deer Bow and Arrow October 15 to November 27 6:30 a.m. to 5:50 p.m., Shotgun December 17 to 19 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with season limit one deer. Waterfowl tighter rules include Ducks October 15 to December 3 with hours and bag limits. geese October 8 to December 16 with bag limit five. Wood ducks limited. Mourning Doves Woodcock and Swan restrictions. Trapping includes Mink and Muskrat December 1 to 31, Beaver November 20 to March 1, Badger Skunk Opossum Civet Cat November 10 to January 10, Raccoon November 10 to February 10. Special regulations on Game Management Areas require permits and harvest quotas, available from the Commission.
Clarence A Morrill age 49 of Foster Center Rhode Island is named executive director of the Iowa Heart Association scheduled to take the post on or before October 1 He succeeds John B Hermann who resigned to become general consultant for the American Heart Association Morrill previously led the Montana Division of the American Cancer Society and Community Memorial Hospital Missoula Montana
Jim Nixt arrived from Fort Hood Texas on a furlough spending about two weeks with his parents Mr and Mrs Peter Nixt in their home.
Lewis Henry Murphy age 77 died September 20 1960 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after a lingering illness. He farmed all his life and is survived by wife Edith Elizabeth Berry, son Keith Murphy Greene, daughter Lois Meek, nine grandchildren, two sisters, and was predeceased by parents and two sisters. Rosary and funeral Mass at St Marys Church Greene with burial in St Marys Cemetery.
David Fraier, 16, was picked up by the highway patrol Saturday night near Parkersburg. He ran away from the juvenile home in Toledo and was held in Allison county jail until Toledo authorities collected him on Sunday.

The semi annual meeting at City Hall Allison endorses accepting articles for display in the recently purchased country school house. Curator Hugh Mosher and assistant Curator Dale Van Eman urge contributions or loans. Treasurer Charles Yost reports receipts of 1352 dollars and expenditures of 1257 dollars. dues are one dollar per year, send to Mrs. Dale Van Eman, Parkersburg.
Boy Scouts troop 26 met Monday in the scout rooms with Scoutmaster Henry Smeins outlining activities for the coming months. The major aim is at least 40 percent of boys earning first class by January 1. Good Will Industries bags will be distributed October 8 and picked up by Boy Scouts October 15. A get-out-the-vote drive is planned for November 8. Richard Fischer opened the meeting. David Bone led the closing. Next meeting set for September 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Drakle building scout room. Other leaders present were assist. scoutmaster Harrison Bone and Bob Fischer.
Leonard Kay Nordyke of Marshalltown received a reckless driving fine of 100 dollars with 50 dollars suspended plus 9 dollars in costs. Joseph Floyd Nevdham of Greene faced a five dollar fine and four dollars in costs for operator license infractions.

Greene Rambler offense showed promise in a 14 to 13 loss to Crestwood as Marsh connected on several passes and Wunsch and Peters powered drives. Crestwood struck late to hold a narrow lead, while Gross Gallagher debate and voting machine demo highlighted a Greene High School Woman's Club event.
Vandals broke into the ECE DeLZ Dralle Department Store Sunday night through a rear basement window and took several pieces of merchandise. Butler County authorities are investigating the incident.
Rev Elmer J Hutchison a Congo missionary will speak at Bennedette Wesleyan Methodist Church three miles east of Aredale. He began missions in Africa 34 years ago and led a Bible School in the Belgian Congo while Mrs Hutchison ran a grade school and dispensary. Services run nightly September 22 through October 6 with breaks on Fridays September 30 and all Saturdays.
The Youth Center opened last Saturday evening from 7:30 to 11:30 with dancing and card games. Teens met Wednesday to elect officers. Sara Jane Green was chosen chairman and Kay Wiegman secretary treasurer. A rule committee and a hay ride committee were formed for an October 8 event.
Members of the sophomore class who play football will face the freshman team from Mason City next Monday at 4:00 PM on the local field.
Greene High School seniors have entered a subscription drive sponsored by The Greene Recorder. Subscriptions go on sale September 21 and run through October 15 to fund activities for the 1960 61 school year. Each student must earn a set fee. after meeting it they may earn for themselves. Receipts are duplicated for buyers. Class sponsors Gerald Stephenson and Vern Gard oversee the effort.
Mr and Mrs Richard Wagoner announce the adoption of a month old son named Kent Darby.
Butler County Teachers Institute will be held on October 8 1960 at the Parkersburg School with all county schools closed for the day. Dr Guy Wagner ISTC Cedar Falls will speak on The Curriculum for a Comprehensive School Program. Gladys Horgen will close with a summary. Registration begins at 9 15.
Leo Naumann, 29, of Marble Rock, was arrested in Greene on Friday night, September 16, by deputy Marvin Barth and Greene City Marshal Virgil Hites on four charges speeding 60 in a 25 zone, reckless driving, disturbing the peace, and intoxication. He pleaded guilty at arraignment in Allison Justice Court and was fined 130 dollars, then released from the county jail.
Miss Mabel Bush 64 of Northwood died Sunday at University Hospital Minneapolis after a long illness. Born February 6 1896 near Greene to Frank and Clara Bush, she leaves a nephew Hilton McCosh and niece Clara Louise Rathbun. Preceded by parents, a brother Ray Bush and two sisters Cora and Eva McDonald. Funeral Tuesday at 2 in Williams Mortuary with Rev R R Ritter. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsors the sale of Buddy Poppies on Saturday September 24 on the streets no house to house canvass. Funds remain in the state with at least half staying in Greene for local welfare and the rest used for rehabilitation in Iowa. The poppies are made by disabled veterans of VFW.
Mrs Anna Schallock of Bakersfield California is spending a few weeks visiting relatives at Greene and Charles City keeping in touch with family and friends and enjoying the visit.
Don Bachman of Greene won the Cornbowl Conference fall golf tournament for faculty men with rounds of 42 35 77. Jerry Coe of Rockford was second, Frank Altman of Nora Springs third, with Ken Tabor and Leonard Gustafson taking flag hole honors. Noel Montgomery and Wally Burns won specials, and plans consider a Butler County event and future Greene and Parkersburg venues.
Visiting brother M. R. Johannsen hosts Mrs. Lillie Walter of Coronado Hills California and Hulda Starkweather during her recent stay, marking a family reunion and hospitality in the region.
