Lurvey Parole Revoked and Returned to Prison

Gary Lee Lurvey, 19, of Marshalltown, was returned from Eldora to Allison on September 10 on petty larceny and parole violation charges. He had been arrested in September 1961 for larceny in the nighttime, sentenced in November 1961 to ten years in Anamosa and paroled for three years. Judge Butler revoked his parole in Allison District Court, and Lurvey was transported to Anamosa Tuesday by Sheriff Pete Boomgarden.

LeBlanc to speak at Woman's Club meeting

S J LeBlanc marketing supervisor of United Telephone Co of Iowa will address the Woman's Club at the high school auditorium on Tuesday September 18 at 8:00 pm. Two Men Fined For Damage To Dump Trucks

James David Aswegan aged 28 and Richard Comer aged 17 of Aplington Iowa appeared in Aplington Mayors Court on September 5 for injuring or tampering with a motor vehicle. Comer paid 25 dollars and Aswegan 50 dollars after pleading guilty. They admitted driving two dump trucks around Fishers Lime pit north of Aplington without consent causing about 25 dollars in damage on September 3.

Cancer Drive Totals Raised in Greene County

Mrs. Andrew Reid, cancer crusade chair in Greene County, reports $4,185.77 collected by county workers in the drive ending August 31. Additional donations of $243.50 bring the county total to $4,429.27, surpassing the county quota of $4,200 by $229.27. State quota stood at $700,000 with $644,620 collected.

Clyde Stuntz and Harry Ott Win School Board Seats

Clyde Stuntz and Harry Ott were elected to three year terms on the Greene Community Schools Board. Verle Barth was re-elected treasurer for a two year term. Turnout reached 179 with write-ins in a Dayton Township contest. Ott led with 156 votes, Stuntz 130, Barth 167, and Stuntz replaces August Backer who did not run.

Fish Fry Draws Over Five Hundred At Greene Club

The Greene Sportsman's Club hosted its annual Fish Fry last Friday evening with about 525 attendees. Prizes were awarded in a closing drawing, funded by local merchants manufacturers and distributors.

Hearing screening underway in Butler County schools

Speech and hearing tests are underway in Butler County schools. The week of September 10 to 14 targets grades one, three, six and nine for screening, with follow up exams for suspected cases.
