The event is Tuesday September 25 at 7 30 pm at the Allison Town Hall. Attendees will hear garden preparation tips and club program ideas with a question period after.

Civil Service screening November 10 precedes final entrance tests. Appointments are strictly competitive.
Mr and Mrs D H Ellis returned home Monday from Rochester Minnesota where Mr Ellis spent three weeks at the Mayo Clinic and the Methodist Hospital in recovery after treatment and surgery.

The October 1962 District Court term in Butler County opens October 1 with Judge William P. Butler presiding. Jurors summoned include 29 names across Albion, Beaver, Bennedette, Butler, Coldwater, Fremont, Jackson, Madison, Monroe, Pittsford, Ripley, Shell Rock, Washington, and West Point Townships, appearing October 8 at 10 A M.
Captain Stanley W. Graven M D now stationed at Lackland Air Force Base Hospital near San Antonio Texas during military service. He and his family reside at 5719 Knoll Krest San Antonio Texas 42.
Gary Lee Lurvey, 19, of Marshalltown, was returned from Eldora to Allison on September 10 on petty larceny and parole violation charges. He had been arrested in September 1961 for larceny in the nighttime, sentenced in November 1961 to ten years in Anamosa and paroled for three years. Judge Butler revoked his parole in Allison District Court, and Lurvey was transported to Anamosa Tuesday by Sheriff Pete Boomgarden.
S J LeBlanc marketing supervisor of United Telephone Co of Iowa will address the Woman's Club at the high school auditorium on Tuesday September 18 at 8:00 pm. He will discuss the new dial system and answer questions. A film on the dial system will be shown. A reception for teachers will follow. Members meet at 7:30 pm for a brief business session.
James David Aswegan aged 28 and Richard Comer aged 17 of Aplington Iowa appeared in Aplington Mayors Court on September 5 for injuring or tampering with a motor vehicle. Comer paid 25 dollars and Aswegan 50 dollars after pleading guilty. They admitted driving two dump trucks around Fishers Lime pit north of Aplington without consent causing about 25 dollars in damage on September 3.
Mrs. Andrew Reid, cancer crusade chair in Greene County, reports $4,185.77 collected by county workers in the drive ending August 31. Additional donations of $243.50 bring the county total to $4,429.27, surpassing the county quota of $4,200 by $229.27. State quota stood at $700,000 with $644,620 collected.
Clyde Stuntz and Harry Ott were elected to three year terms on the Greene Community Schools Board. Verle Barth was re-elected treasurer for a two year term. Turnout reached 179 with write-ins in a Dayton Township contest. Ott led with 156 votes, Stuntz 130, Barth 167, and Stuntz replaces August Backer who did not run.
The Greene Sportsman's Club hosted its annual Fish Fry last Friday evening with about 525 attendees. Prizes were awarded in a closing drawing, funded by local merchants manufacturers and distributors.

Speech and hearing tests are underway in Butler County schools. The week of September 10 to 14 targets grades one, three, six and nine for screening, with follow up exams for suspected cases. A separate week September 17 to 21 covers third grade speech testing, with affected children enrolled in classes led by Miss Berth Ann Boeckhaus.
The final oral Polio Vaccine will be administered to residents of Greene on Thursday September 27. Type Two will be given at this time.

E. E. Cowan announces a school lunch conference for Butler and Grundy County cooks sponsors and administrators on Thursday September 20 at the Parkersburg elementary building. The event runs 3:30 to 5:30 with 3:00 tours of the kitchen and storage area. Mr Cowan and Miss Patterson lead sessions on administrative issues and menu planning with open discussion.
Mrs Percy Lucas went home Sunday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where she received treatment.
Town Clerk Claire Curtis announced the town has received a check for 11484.44 from the State Treasurer as partial payment of flood damage that occurred in spring 1961. The funds were returned to the town treasury.
Butler County Superintendent K R Rowley reports warrants received for special education claims. Pro rata at 43.0411301 percent applies to individual and group claims with full reimbursement for special equipment purchases. Despite a raised appropriation, pro rata slightly declines due to program growth. districts listed include Parkersburg Community School Greene Dumont Clarksville Aplington with respective amounts.
Verle Steere of Greene sustained a crushed heel from a fall of twenty two feet in his parents farm barn on Saturday September 1. He was injured at the Greene residence of Mr and Mrs Albert Steere.

Wanda Becker of Iowa Falls was fined $5.00 and $4.00 costs for a stop sign violation in J. P. Moffett's court. John King of Parkersburg faced a $10.00 fine and $4.00 costs for following too close in J. P. Knight's court. Beverly N. Thomas was sentenced to fifteen days in the County Jail for intoxication and causing extensive car damage.
Butler county superintendents from Allison plan Thursday discussion on Mantoux tuberculin testing offered by the Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association and County Medical Society. Program aims for Class A or B school certification based on participation, with tests beginning November 5 and free for students and school staff.

The Butler district of the Boy Scouts of America will host a fall camporee Saturday and Sunday September 15 and 16 in a wooded area near Mead’s bridge southwest of Allison. Local Scout Troop No. 26 will join. Fathers are invited to participate. fee is 2 dollars per day plus 2 dollars per father for meals. Attendees should contact Henry Smeins at the Albrecht Feed Mill or his home by Friday noon.
The Quarterback Club will hold its first meeting of the season on Monday evening September 17 at 8 o'clock in the high school lunch room. All interested in backing the team are urged to attend. Movies of Greene Britt fame will be shown.
