Farm Outlook for 1957 Crops Released
Farm economist Francis A. Kutish of Iowa State College says soybeans this year will have supplies similar to 1956, with harvest later than the unusually early 1956 crop. He notes prices peaked in late 1956 then recovered, threats to world demand, and predicts soybean oil prices around 11 to 18 cents, while soybean meal may vary between 45 and 55 dollars a ton. Stiffer competition and lower cottonseed oil supplies shape the outlook, with potential price strength if exports rise and farmers store beans.
