Jonn Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garth Butler, left last Thursday for Cedarville Ohio after a week at home. He has spent the summer touring the North Central states with the Cedarville College Male Quartet and will be a junior at Cedarville College this year.
An amidment to Town Conservation Laws states that residents under sixteen may hunt game without a license if accompanied by a parent or guardian or another competent adult with consent, provided the adult has a valid hunting license. The note urges fathers to hunt with their sons to simplify the process.
Semi final golf matches were held Sunday in the Men's City Golf Tournament. Robert Curtis defeated Keith Drake 6 to 5 and Don Bachman defeated Paul Hamilton 7 to 6. Curtis and Bachman will play in the finals this coming weekend.
Adam Schwab of Shell Rock and George Negan of Clarksville won the contour and level land divisions in the 1959 Butler County Plowing Match chaired by Donald Harris. Schwab topped Hugh Seallon and Albert DeBower, Negan placed above Neil Stauffer and Herman Jacobs. They will represent Butler District in the State Plowing Matches in Woodbury County on September 25. Schwab previously won the 1957 State Contour Championship and represented Iowa in the National contests in Ohio. The event was on Dale Wilken farm in Fremont Township with demonstrations by local machinery dealers. about 400 people attended.
Large crowd attends the third annual Hoofbeats Horse Show featuring riders from Waterloo Cedar Falls Janesville Clarksville Allison Marble Rock Dumont and Greene. Winners across Amateur Ponies Pole Bending Musical Chair Women’s and Men’s Western Pleasure Junior Horsemanship and Stock Horse are listed with top contestants from Waterloo Greene Allison Clarksville and Janesville.
Mrs Clarence McCracken was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital on Tuesday September 8 for additional surgery on her fractured hip performed last Wednesday morning.

He is married with three sons. the family formerly lived in Kalona. An all day regional meeting will be held in Fredericksburg on Friday September 25.
Leon Steere son of Mr and Mrs Leo Steere escaped injury when his 1958 Chevrolet left the Powersville road curve three miles east of Greene rolling into a ditch at about 10:00 pm Poor visibility from dust prevented him from seeing the corner until it was too late The car was a total wreck
Clark William Wells born April 30 1899 in Clarksville Iowa died September 7 1959 in Buffalo Missouri. Survived by wife Louise K Schliep one son Howard Wells two grandchildren June Wells Ralph Wells sister and brother. Funeral at Hammel Martin Clarksville with Rev George Knutson burial Lynwood Cemetery.
Greene Post Office announces new hours effective immediately. Window hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday. closed Sundays and holidays. Mail trucks arrive at 7:55 a.m., 4:12 p.m., and 5:05 p.m. daily except Sunday. Mail deposited before 5:00 p.m. is mailed that day. deposits after 5:00 p.m. are postmarked for the next day.
Arnold Oscar Jensen, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas E Jensen, was baptized Sunday September 13 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church. He weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce at birth on August 18 at Cedar Valley hospital. Sponsors were Mr and Mrs Arnold Steege Garner maternal grandparents and Mr and Mrs Rollis Jensen Denver uncle and aunt. Dinner guests followed at the Jensen home.
Mrs. M Menken was discharged from Cedar Valley Hospital after major surgery on September 2. She is recuperating at the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs John Stauffer.
Winnebago Area Council Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will deliver Goodwill Clothing Bags to Greene homes on Saturday September 26 as part of Good Turn Day. A week later on October 3 they will return to collect filled bags for Goodwill Industries.

Mrs Ed Hanley left Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Thursday and is recuperating at the Clark Rest Home.
The Butler county ASC committee chair Theo J. Bauman announced a new deadline to join the 1960 conservation reserve program. The Sept 30 extension applies after the original Sept 10 request date for farmers to have their county ASC fix a basic annual payment rate. Farmers will have until Oct 16 to offer land for a contract after rate notification. The change allows tenants from 1958 or 1959 to apply for 1960 contracts without designating a division of the annual payment. Complete program details are at the Allison county ASC office.
Mrs. Cora M. Miller aged 86 died September 8 at Rockford Convalescent Home after a lingering illness. Born August 7 1873 in West Union Iowa she married Theodore Bert in 1889, then Roy R Miller in 1908. Survivors include daughter Mrs Chas Stewart Greene son George Dorto Alamo Texas four grandchildren twelve great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services were held Friday at Hauser Funeral Home Charles City with pastors officiating. burial in Osage cemetery.
Fines from Justice of the Peace Frank Knight and Mayor Cecil Starkweather last week include Floyd Mornley bound over to district court on a $300 bond for uttering a false check. Gary Slocum paid various fines for traffic offenses and stop sign violations. Other fines covered disturbing the peace, speeding, intoxication, and related costs for multiple defendants including Roger Arends, Steven Rottler, Leon Steere, Dale McRoberts, Marvin Clifton, Marvin Saltzman, and Jerry Curtis.

Mr and Mrs Will Cheney returned Saturday from a vacation trip through the west. They visited Carson City and Virginia City Nevada Lake Tahoe Yosemite Kings Canyon Sequia Parks Fresno and Bakersfield California Petrified Forest Royal Gorge Colorado and Dodge City Kansas. They also called on relatives in La Plata New Mexico Topeka Kansas Odessa and Trenton Missouri.
