Rams Scrimmage Shines as Fans Pack Field

With 200 to 300 Greene supporters present the Rams staged one of their best scrimmages in years. No offensive line penalties in the first period, a strong running game led by Downing and Brinkman, solid blocking by Ponto and Ebling, and a bright passing show with Ebling connecting on 5 of 7 for 56 yards and Backer 4 of 10 for 67. The defense pressured well in the third quarter, and the kicking game featured a 42 yard field goal by Austinson with Nettleton holding. Sophomores impressed against varsity as Sheffield hosts Friday night promises a wild season.

CF Breath of Life Campaign Drives Support

Rodney, a six year old with cystic fibrosis, relies on daily medicated vapors to clear mucus as the Greene Breath of Life Campaign of the Iowa Cystic Fibrosis Foundation seeks funds for research, care, and education. The foundation sponsors centers and a nationwide network to diagnose treat and refer children with lung and related gastrointestinal diseases. Public appeal urges Greene residents to donate during September 11 19.

Cub Scout Orientation Night Sept 20 1976

An orientation night for Cub Scouting will be held Monday September 20 at 7 30 PM in the Community Center. It invites boys ages 8 9 and 10 and their parents to learn about Cub Scouts and joining options. Cub dens Wolf Bear Webelos cater to age groups with program details explained by Cubmaster Gary Rottler. Joyce Fiddick Miller of Greene has been named an Outstanding Young Woman of America for 1976 for civic and professional work at the University of Southern Illinois.

Services Held for Bain Leavens in Shell Rock

Bain Leavens of Shell Rock died August 28 and was buried August 31 at Shell Rock Cemetery after services at the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife and two sons Richard of Nashua and Duane of Greene. Steve Rapp announced Senator John Culver will visit Butler County on Saturday September 11 with an Allison reception at 905 4th St hosted by M and M Don Baumen. Cheerleading Elections Set for Junior High and Varsity

The school schedules cheerleader elections for September 10 for junior high and junior varsity squads. River runs low cut off flow at dam level

Prolonged drought keeps the Shell Rock River below the dam level with no water over the structure. A trickle passes through conduits in the old power plant, but the riverbed remains exposed and a path to Camp Comfort is visible through the waterless stretch.

Commercial Club Meeting Sept 9 and Dues Reminder

Ponto Receives Pharmacy Scholarship at UI Open House

James Ponto, a senior in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, is among 15 pharmacy students awarded scholarships or honors at the fall Pharmacy Student-Faculty Open House. He received the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education scholarship.
