The Jaycee chapter seeks donations to support the U S Olympic Team for Mexico City with tax deductions available through local Greene businesses next week. The piece questions Viet Cong violence in Saigon cites pace of peace talks, and notes George Wallace gains in presidential bid upsetting Nixon and Humphrey, reflecting voter discontent with policies and taxes.
Anne and Elizabeth Hagarty received word of the death of Joseph Harrington who lived near Maynard. He was the husband of Agnes Hagarty, niece of the Hagarty sisters. Funeral services will be held today at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein. Survivors include his wife six sons and two daughters.
North Iowa Area Community College plans seven adult education courses at the high school. Enrollment closes September 20, 1968, with twelve week sessions except furniture refinishing at six weeks. Courses include Beginning Bookkeeping Typing I Business Machines Sewing Tailoring Upholstery and Furniture Refinishing with fees of ten dollars, except upholstery five dollars per person or fifteen per couple.
Aaron Jewell announces Butler County Extension marks 50 years of service in 1968. An open house October 5 at 7 30 p m in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison kicks off a program led by Mrs Vernon Hassman with council members assisting. A historical staff roster lists county agents extension home economists and youth assistants dating from 1918 through 1967.
Barbara Jane Ray, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilson Ray, earned a diploma as part of a class of thirty student nurses. The September Sth commencement at Marian Wall Auditorium St Anthony School of Nursing Oklahoma City featured Dr David E Livingstone as speaker, marking thirty two months of study in medical surgical pediatric and psychiatric nursing.
E M and Mrs Douglas H Franke of Charles City hosted sixteen days with parents Mr and Mrs Robert H Franke of Charles City and Mr and Mrs Everett Pattschull of Greene. Kathy Pattschull, now Mrs Douglas Franke, previously shared that kinship. E M Franke completed eighteen weeks of electricians school at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and serves aboard the U S S John King on a Mediterranean tour while Mrs Franke stays in Charles City with her parents.
The Country Club lists events including a shotgun at 1:00 p.m. Sunday and a stag supper on Tuesday evening September 17th.
Ray Brinkman and Donald Hagarty were re-elected to the Greene Community School board and Verle Barth was re-elected treasurer. All were unopposed. Election totals: Brinkman 140, Hagarty 135, Barth 137 with 145 votes cast. Barths term runs July 1 1969 to June 30 1971. mill levy for North Iowa Area Community College passed area wide at 56.5 percent with Greene 74 yes 71 no.
Miss Ruby G. McCarthy a former Greene resident died last week in McAllen Texas Funeral services were held in McAllen on Friday She grew to womanhood in Greene and served as school principal and superintendent in the Dysart system She retired and moved to Texas Survivors include sister Mrs Ruth McLean of McAllen and brother Russell a New York school employee
Bruce Nettleton of Greene has entered an Angus steer in the Waterloo Meat Animal Show held with the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo. The exposition runs from September 21 to 29.
Mr and Mrs August Grendler announce the birth of their son Jeffrey on September 3 in Norfolk Virginia. He has a two year old brother Christopher awaiting his welcome home.
Delegates to the Iowa State National Farmer's Organization convention met at the Memorial Union on the Iowa State University campus in Ames to elect three men to the NFO National Board of Directors for one year and to conduct other business. Elected were James Stewart Columbus Junction Willis Rowell Edgewood and Melvin Zubrod Elma.
The State Conservation Commission reminds that hunting starts Saturday September 14 with fox, gray squirrel, cottontail and jack rabbit seasons. Squirrel bag limit six and possession twelve. rabbit season runs to February 16, 1969 with daily hours 6 am to 6 pm and ten daily bag. Statewide open for rabbit and squirrel. youths under 16 must hunt with a licensed adult or be accompanied by a parent guardian if unlicensed.
Visiting son David Wihlm of Mr and Mrs Alphonse Wihlm is home on furlough from the army after finishing training at Fort Ord California He will report on September 26 in New Jersey and then proceed to Germany to serve in the infantry.
Miss Sheila M. Murphy 26 and Norma Jean Smith 24 were involved in a Monday night collision on Highway 92 and 60 near Knoxville. Smith was killed, Murphy was treated at Collins Memorial Hospital for a broken arm and minor injuries. driver Randall Perkey 46 was uninjured. Both nurses at the Knoxville Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Ronald Jenison of Clarksville announce the birth of a daughter named Jamie Jo on September 4. She arrived to a brother Tony, and is welcomed by grandparents Donald Jenison Clarksville and Galen Schuknecht Greene, with great grandfathers Charles Hurd and Frank W Schuknecht of Greene.
Jeanette Astor daughter of Mr and Mrs William Astor is a patient at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Mason City after suffering a hip injury Sunday while riding a horse.
The Greene Community Schools report 749 pupils enrolled this year, down from 819 last year. For 1966-1967, 764 students were registered, with elementary grades totaling 371 and junior senior high totals of 378. Grade breakdown includes Kindergarten 43, first 50, second 62, third 54, fourth 42, fifth 52, sixth 68, seventh 53, eighth 67, ninth 55, tenth 69, eleventh 64, and twelfth 70.
Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Township committeemen will be elected at public meetings at 8 00 p m on September 17. The Coldwater township election place moves from city hall to the youth center. Farmers will meet to nominate and elect five neighbors to serve as chairman vice chairman regular member and two alternates.

Seven Regular Baptist Churches host the twenty fifth annual Missionary Conference starting Sunday Sept 15 with daily 745 pm services through Sept 22. Seven speakers rotate among churches. Rev Bernard Bancroft of Calvary Baptist leads, joined by Galen Glessner, Robert Hedrick, John Aseltine, Orville Floden, Lee Turner, and James Evans. Youth Rally Saturday night at Shell Rock First Baptist. Churches: Horton Iowa Faith Marble Rock New Hampton First New Hartford First Worthington Weaverly.
The Greene Fire Department responded to a tractor fire on the north edge of Greene at 3 15 Tuesday afternoon. The tractor owned by the Ruzicka brothers of Marble Rock sustained damage to wiring and hose.
Pfc. Bruce Fischer son of Mr and Mrs Robert Fischer is home on a twenty day leave from the Marine Corps He has completed his infantry training at Camp Pendleton California
The Junior Chamber of Commerce plans to place donation boxes in local businesses today and collect them next Wednesday September 18. The United States Olympic Committee funds training and travel for about 1100 athletes with public contributions totaling around 3.5 million dollars. Contributions are tax deductible and support U S participation in the Olympic Games.
The Allison Stamp Club invites Butler County Historical Society members to join a meeting at the R. E. C. meeting room in Allison on Saturday evening September 14 at 7 30. After the meeting the group will tour the Butler County Historical building.
The Greene Rambler football team under coach William Garner prepares for the 1968 season in four weeks of conditioning. They host Osage in the opening non conference game Friday at 7 45 with questions about fitness depth and injuries. Forty five players are out including eight returning lettermen and a probable starting lineup is named for the opener.
The Commercial Club of Greene will hold a meeting tonight at 8:00 p m in Greene city hall with members gathering to discuss club affairs and local participation.
Allison officials Kenneth Hart Hugh Seallon and Herman Stubbe with M Burton Sprole and D Georgene Bauman and Frieda Christensen are listed among ASC committee members and county office staff attending the 1968 ASC conference in Des Moines September 16 11 and 12. Edwin Jaenke and Roy Fitzgerald will address the workshop style gathering focused on exchange of ideas and future farm programs with Governor Hughes slated to speak at the Wednesday luncheon September 11.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church invites parishioners and neighbors to a church supper on Thursday evening September 26. Proceeds support church programs and missions.
Winnebago Area Council Cub and Boy Scouts across nine counties in North Central Iowa will run a Good Turn Day Clothing drive on October 5 and October 12. Cubs will deliver bags October 5 and Scouts will collect on October 12 for Goodwill Industries.
The Lea bowling league reports last week's standings and high scores. Jim's Standard and Miller Real Estate posted several games while S and N extra teams show mixed results. High series include Sam Sneed 592 and Gordon Wood 560, with Elmer Stock 538 and Gerald Stephenson 211, Jim Marshall 205. Lea Wednesday night Rollers led the night.
A conference for school lunch cooks and administrators from Franklin, Butler and Bremer counties is set for September 24 at Allison. Led by E. E. Cowan and Eula Rouse, the program includes a 3:30 to 5:39 session with a pre-tour option at 3:00, a general session, and two sections on program administration and kitchen procedures.
