Retiring Greene Rural Carrier Ends 34 Years with Post Office
Galen Martzahn retires after 34 years with the Post Office ending his Greene Route 2 duties. He began as a clerk in 1941, served in WWII with the U S Army Postal Service, then returned to Greene and took over RR2 about 31 years ago. Sam Sneed will fill in until a replacement is named.

Michael W. Dunn, formerly of Manchester, is named vice president and assistant loan officer of First State Bank of Greene. He and his wife Judy and daughter Tirzah now reside in Greene and he started the job Tuesday. Dunn is a native of Eagle Grove, University of Iowa 1971 graduate, with prior banking work in Eagle Grove and Cedar Rapids. He has completed the first year at the Iowa School of Banking. The Greene Quarterback Club will sell Minnesota potatoes to raise funds for club projects. Memorial service for Capt. Paul Burroughs at Charleston AFB
A memorial service was held in the chapel at Charleston Air Force Base DC on August 27 to honor Capt. Paul N. Burroughs and the six crew members of a C-141 that crashed near La Paz Bolivia on August 18. Burroughs, born February 20 1944 in Yuma Arizona, was a 1966 Air Force Academy graduate and pilot awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for an emergency resupply mission to Djamap Special Forces Camp on July 16 1970, and the Air Medal. He married Jill Jensen in Tokyo on August 1 1965 and leaves one son Scot Alan. Survived by his wife and son his parents five brothers two sisters and grandparents Mr and Mrs Rov Pooley.
