Butler County voters will elect three school board members on Monday September 8 Areas 1 and 4 will choose one member each and one member is elected at large Mrs James Graven Greene seeks Area 1 re election to fill the term of M K Sperry who resigned and moved to California Robert Moore New Hartford seeks Area 4 six year term Jack D Schuck Parkersburg seeks at large seat Dr Floyd Rolfs term ended and is not seeking reelection at large All residents of Butler County 21 or older may vote for at large while area residents vote for their candidate Greene Community School district lies in Area 1.
Greg Dralle and Mary Rottler won the tennis championships with Dralle defeating Mark Kuin 6-2 2-6 6-4 in the finals and Rottler taking the girls title by beating runner up Ann Allison 6-2 6-3. Other entrants included Tim Heidenwirth Dan Weyand Nancy Kingery Lynnette Kingery Janea Fischer and more all coached by Sara Jane Green.
Henry Kingery of Charles City, son of Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery, is a patient in Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after bladder stone removal Monday night. Mrs Dayton Mather underwent major surgery at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City on Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Joe Kyle came home Monday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after 11 days of treatment. Mrs. Lillian Skillen of Charles City, formerly Greene, returned home from St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Waverly where she was undergoing treatment.
The annual Wilmar Church supper will be held on Thursday evening, September 1. Local parish members invite the community to attend for a meal and fellowship. Proceeds support church programs and activities.
Donovan F. Nettleton, 63, died of a heart attack in Adel on Thursday morning. Born April 17, 1901, in Greene, he married Helen Woodruff in Waterloo in 1920. Survivors include his wife, a son Robert Francis of Staten Island, NY, two daughters, and seven grandchildren. Funeral at St. Joseph Catholic Church Waterloo, burial Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mrs Glen Shaffer of Greene was among more than 200 professional nurses from 30 states at the first national workshop for general duty and head nurses held at The State University of Iowa. Sponsored by the American Nurses Association with cooperation from the SUI College of Nursing, the event looked at improving professional nursing skills and supervising nursing care.

Martha Stuntz and Larry Finnell led twenty three couples to win the tenth annual Mixed Two Ball Foursome Golf Tournament at the Country Club on Labor Day with a 44. Fern Stuntz and Lewis Majewski finished second with 45, Clyde Stuntz and Dawn Cheney tied for third at 45, Charmayne Sneed and Johnnie McRoberts were fourth at 46, Luanne Wagoner and Sam Sneed were fifth at 47, and Dell Curtis with Mildred Senne placed sixth at 49. Martin Senne captured the flag hole prize while Bernita Anderson and Mr Buddenhagen had the high score.

Newsmen from Butler County joined Otmar Wenger and the Board of Supervisors on a August 22 tour of county road projects. Officials described materials, costs, and new methods including pre cast concrete bridges and aluminum corrugated pipe culverts. Federal state and county highway funds totaling about 9 07 052 last year were forecast to repeat in 1963.
The Sportsman's Club annual Fish Fry drew 587 attendees last Friday evening. Nearly 600 pounds of walleye were served with French fries. Kenneth R. LaVelle, 51, of Waterloo died Thursday afternoon at Lehvitz Memorial Hospital after a heart attack. Born September 3, 1911 in English Indiana, he married Beth Maxson on February 14, 1943 in Des Moines. Family moved to Waterloo in 1932. Survived by wife and five sons Gehrig, 19. Maxson, 16. Robert, 15. Kent, 12. two brothers Harold G. and Donald E.. sister Arlene LaVelle. Funeral at Grace Methodist Church with Rev. Gilbert M. Field. Burial in Garden of Memories.
At the Iowa State Fair the Tutler County 4-H demonstration team showcased Fabric Tronholes Will Tailor. Iola Janssen and Carol Greenfeld of Ack- were photographed presenting the project and earned a red ribbon for their display.
Elmer M Huntbach 63 of Waterloo arrested Saturday 31st in Arlington by Marshal Paul Martinez for intoxication. He pleaded guilty in Dean Wiegmann's Court, fined $22 plus costs, and was released. Donald and Ronald Munn 18 of Independence arrested Monday in New Hartford for intoxication in a public place. They appeared in Allison Justice of Peace court and pleaded guilty, each paying a $25 fine plus costs.
Miss Jeanette Wirth along with her parents Mr and Mrs Fred Wirth and family visited Sioux Center on Wednesday where she accepted a position as vocal music and German instructor.
William F. Johnson, 47, of Town Falls, was returned from Cedar Rapids on a false drawing and uttering of a check charge. He pleaded guilty in Dean Wiegmann's Court and received five days in the county jail while held on an intoxication charge.
Ronald LeRoy Oldenburger 21 of Parkersburg and Daryl Jene Miller 18 of Clarksville were injured Sunday afternoon when their cars collided two miles south and two miles east of Allison. Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth said both had head cuts and bruises treated at Dr. McKean's office in Allison. Both vehicles were badly damaged.
