Greene Community High School presents the musical comedy Dates and Mates on November 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Director Harold Blosser leads the vocal department with the stage band under Ray Holtz providing the music. principal cast includes Tom Truitt Claire Arhart Jolene Litterer Sherry Debner Diane Debner and others.
Butler County 4-H members will receive awards at the annual awards night on November 2 at 8 00 p m in the Farm Bureau Auditorium. The outstanding 4-H girl and boy and clubs will be named. Twelve youths will win an award trip to Chicago over Thanksgiving weekend. Awards cover Home Economics Agriculture Textiles and Clothing Beef and other project areas. Members will exhibit science mechanics and arts projects before and after the program. County 4-H officers and committee will preside. Theme: Happiness is being in 4-H. All members parents and friends urged to attend.
Lt Thomas W Green has completed a 20 day leave with his parents Mr and Mrs Harry B Green. He served as Assistant Damage Control Officer on the destroyer U S Renshaw with the Seventh Fleet off Vietnam. After three and a half months at Coronado he will join the South Vietnamese Navy as a special advisor.
Dale W. Clark 66 of 112 South Tennessee Mason City died Tuesday night October 22 in a local hospital. He was born December 9 1901 in Butler County son of James A and Ida Merrill Clark. A sales man with Sieg Company since 1933 he formerly worked for Bankers Life Insurance. He married Trene Dailey on February 23 1935 in Greene. Survived by wife daughter Nancy Johnson Newcastle Indiana two grandchildren. Requiem High Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church Mason City burial St Marys Greene.

Mrs Warren Hollingsworth was released from the hospital on Thursday October 24 and is recuperating at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. She is receiving treatment for a heart condition.
NIAD offers voluntary organization leader workshops at three sites starting next week from 7:30 p m to 9:55 p m at Forest City Waldorf Student Center November 4 11 18 Floyd County Extension Office Charles City November 6 12 19 and First United Methodist Church Youth Room Mason City November 7 14 21 John Tait and Art Johnson of Iowa State University Extension lead the sessions NAC area hosts this first state program for current and aspiring leaders.
The Butler County Association for Retarded Children announces a November fund drive in Butler County on a township basis. Volunteers from civic, church, and neighborhood groups will canvass towns. Recognition will be published after the drive. Iowa Town and County radio network donates spot announcements featuring KCHA Charles City KWVY Waverly and KIFG Iowa Falls.
Voters prepare for a nationwide and local election on Tuesday November 5 with polls open 8 am to 8 pm. The race features Nixon Humphrey Wallace for president with Agnew Muskie and Griffin as running mates. several third party and statewide candidates appear in Iowa races including governor, U S Senate, and state offices. Republicans hold incumbencies in county posts and state positions while voters consider a crowded ballot in the Third District congressional race and local county offices.
The Greene Community Halloween parade happens Thursday at 7 30 p m. Children should meet at the Perrin Park tennis court. Prizes for best costumes and treats are planned. Sponsored by Greene Commercial Club and the Jaycees.
Iowa State University offers two management courses starting the second full week of November. The Management By Objectives course runs eight Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting November 14 at Charles City High School. Voters are asked to decide on retaining Judge Clay LeGrand in office and to vote on five constitutional amendments. Amendments include annual General Assembly sessions, home rule for municipalities with tax authority only if allowed, legislative representation limits, congressional districting, governor veto of appropriations with legislative override, and Assembly power to set compensation with increases not effective until the next session.

The Greene Ramblers shut out Rockford 13 to 0 to forge a 5 to 6 league mark, with Nashua’s win over Riceville already staking the conference finale Friday. The Ramblers’ defense, led by Stuntz and Demaray, held Rockford scoreless and secured the pivotal win. Friday’s game will determine the league title and the Little Brown Jug, with Ackley visiting Greene next Wednesday to close the schedule.

The Greene High School marching band of 85 travels to Wartburg College on Saturday November 2 for a half time show at the homecoming game and a morning parade. Drum majors Wendy Martzahn and Melinda Dralle lead the group with a BBQ after the parade and a rehearsal on the field. Repertoire includes Up Up and Away Trombone Boogie By the Time I Get to Phoenix and Love is Blue.
Mrs. Arvid Lindell, Grand Representative of Iowa to Michigan, returned from a three day Grand Chapter session in Grand Rapids. She spoke at Michigan's formal opening, participated in Davenport floor drills, and sang at the Bible presentation ceremony. She traveled with Mrs. John Barlow of Toledo and Mrs. Charles Ray.
