Alpert Hammel an employee of the Maxson Frodden Lumber Company was injured late Tuesday afternoon October 22 when a board fell breaking his glasses. A piece of glass penetrated his left eye and he was taken to St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City where surgeons have operated twice to save his sight.
An organizational meeting of the Butler County Unit of the North Central Division of the Town Heart Association was held in Allison City Hall on October 24. Dr McKean was named chairman, with Vern Gard as co chair.
WH At Home Harold Allison has been confined to his home by illness in recent days. The note indicates he remains at home under care and is not publicly active.
Butler County AGS-C committee chairman Herman Stubbe announces the final 1963 corn price support remains at 1.00 per bushel, the minimum rate, with loans of 1.00 per bushel plus 0.18 for normal production. Carryover estimates show 1.3 billion bushels, down from 1 year ago and far below 1961 peak.
Vivian Kingery Wilde resigns from the Farm Service Co op at Charles City after twenty seven and a half years as petroleum tank wagon salesman. He will become a petroleum tank wagon salesman for the Farmer's Co op Elevator in Green starting November 1. Aaron Jewell selected by the Farm Service Co op to supply Greene area customers starting November 1.
Mrs Merlyn Parks was transported by ambulance to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Monday afternoon for treatment of pneumonia.
John Mead son of Mr and Mrs Bob Mead was elected Chief of the AIAQUEZ Lodge Order of the Arrow Winnebago Council Boy Scouts of America at the Father and Son Banquet held Monday evening at Wesley Methodist Church in Mason City Steve Barnett son of Mrs Iva Barnett was elected representative from Butler District.
Mrs. Edwin Brunner 64 died suddenly at her farm north of Greene. Born March 18, 1899 to Ed and Harriette Shultz she married Edwin Brunner on July 4 1922 and lived in Greene all her life. Survivors include her husband two daughters a son five grandchildren three sisters and two brothers. Funeral Thursday October 31 at 2:00 pm at Reid's Funeral Chapel with Rev. William H. Green officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery Marble Rock. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Mr and Mrs Roger Martzahn welcomed a son born September 27 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighed 8 pounds 7.5 ounces and has been named Roland John.
St John s Lutheran Wilmar will host Festival of Faith Week 15 starting Sunday evening November 3 continuing through Thursday evening November 7. All services begin at 7 30 p m The guest speaker is Rev Donald Loots of St James Lutheran Church Mason City.
Butler County 4-H plans awards night on November 9 at 8:00 pm in the Farm Bureau Auditorium. Twelve members will receive the Chicago Trip Award, with an Outstanding 4-H Achievement Trophy also planned. Other honors include county medals, dairy calf award, top clubs, certificates and seals, and purple record books.

The annual UNICEF drive by Girl Scout troops 265 and 269 raised 72.79 dollars for health and nutrition work in underdeveloped countries. Senior and Junior Scouts helped with lunch, decorations, and birthday cakes honoring Juliette Gordon Low.
Auditions at Charles City High School selected Greene High School students for the All-State Band and Orchestra. Hammel alto sax, Tielen MebBu baritone sax, plus two Greene students to the main ensemble with Steve Barnett as alternate. Greene placed among top districts with 9 schools represented. They will rehearse in Des Moines and perform at KRNT Theater.
James Ro Reven, son of Mr and Mrs Donald Ped, completed basic at Great Lakes Navy Base and is now stationed at Naval Station Memphis Tennessee for aviation mechanic training. Listed as James R Rees 692-81-32 CoC NATTC Naval Air Station Memphis Tennessee 38115.
The regular city election will be held next Tuesday, November Sth, at City Halls. Polls open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. A mayor and five councilmen are to be elected. Willem Ramies runs for mayor and Dr D T Drees. John Haralton, Davol Markle, Melvin Yerkes, and Leonora Nichol run for council. No opposition is reported. Terms run from January 1, 1864 to January 1, 1966. All qualified voters in the Incorporated Town of Greene may vote.
Greene Fire Department responded to a Tuesday morning blaze at about 11 15 at the Don Feldman farm. The tractor owned by Fred Feldman, used to harvest corn, sustained considerable damage in the fire.
Mrs Glenn Stockdale of Region is honorary chairwoman for a November campaign by the Butler County Association for Retarded Children. Retarded Children’s Week runs November 17 to 28 with volunteers visiting homes to solicit funds. Forty percent stays in Butler County for local services, 15% goes to Iowa’s Retarded Children program, and 15% to the national headquarters. Local clubs and organizations have joined, with two-dollar dues supporting a county-wide mailing and professional outreach. Co-chairs Mrs Ben Flehner and Mrs Robert Ostercamp report strong volunteer support.
Mrs. Bertha Hall, 74, died Sunday evening in Chula Vista California after illness. Survived by three sons Buist of Dumont Paul of Avon SD and Lilie of Minneapolis MN, and one daughter Mrs Harold Weganod of Chula Vista. Two brothers Albert Brown of Cedar Rapids and Lew Brown of Central City Iowa. Funeral arrangements announced for Friday afternoon in Central City.
A Halloween Dance will be held on Thursday evenings at the Round Grave Golf and Countes Club. The committee includes Messeurs and James Ajax Heidenwinita Ven Rottle Dick Witwer No 2 Watson and Herman Stubbs.
Ramblers rally from a 13 7 halftime deficit to beat Rockford 21 19 on Friday night. Bramer and Jones power Greene led offense while Merlin Schuknecht boots three extra points sealing the win amid a hard fought battle with the Bulldogs and Warriors.
Mrs Nonie Nevie Hites of Ap ilington died suddenly Friday October 25 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after admission hours earlier. Born January 11 1876 in a log house near Kesley to Harrison Brown and Lenora Kincade she lived most of her life in Butler County. She married Wallace A Hites January 27 1898. Survivors include four sons Virgil Greene Chifford Bristol Walter Bemida Minnesota Donovan Guthne Munne aty fourteen grandchildren twenty great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband parents one son and one daughter and sister. Rites Monday 2 pm at Hitesvale Gospel Hall with Haim Harms officiating. Burial Hitesville Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge.
Four Butler County dairy farmers received Dairy Herd Improvement Association certificates for herds averaging over 450 pounds of butterfat per cow for the year July 1 1962 to June 30 1963. Extension Director Karl Connell y notes several herds and that 15 Butler County herds participated in testing with average production of 121 pounds butterfat per cow. Awards are issued jointly by Iowa State University and the Dairy Association to high producing herds in the DHIA program.

Harry Green flew to Cleveland on Thursday of last week to spend a few days with his wife’s family, Joeny Nags J. Mrs Green has been visiting to help care for the newborn Tom John. They stopped en route in Dubuque where Sara Jeme a student at Loras College was noted.
