A civic call urges voters to participate in the November election and support the candidate of their choice. Local sports billings note Ramblers at Nashua Friday, Bull dogs vs Rockford, Ramblers vs Ackley, and Raiders in a strong football week with a contrast in outlook between pessimism and optimism.
Mr and Mrs R A Bathke returned home Sunday after a week in Las Vegas for the 1964 Mobil Dealer Convention among 3000 Mobil dealers wives and oil marketers En route they stopped in Newton to visit their son in law and daughter Lester C Johnson and grandchildren Leslie and Robbie
Arnold Hexom of Waverly will auction a building on Water Street in Greene tomorrow at 1 o'clock. The property formerly operated as Sherman's Sport Shop.
A group of friends and neighbors held a good neighbor deed at the Onley Newton farm north of Greene on Saturday and harvested twenty acres of corn. Mr. Newton injured his leg in a wagon fall. Helpers included Everett Newton, Duane Newton, Jerry Newton, Lester Hurd, Robert Hillegas, Richard Bruns, Andy Bouilion, Fred Wirth, Frank Katcher, Lowell Jorges, Wilson Ray, Lawrence Norman, Clair Kepple, and Bob Kepple. Davis Oil Co supplied gasoline. Ladies aiding with dinner were Mrs. Frank Katcher, Mrs. Fred Wirth, and Mrs. Sherry Parsons. food was provided by Mrs. Lester Hurd and Mrs. Clair Kepple.
Cliff Burroughs spent three days last week in Chicago attending the sixteenth National Mutual Fund Dealers Conference at the Pick-Congress Hotel. He represented Harold F. Miller and Company of Dubuque as a guest of his employer.
Shurfine Sam and his German Band will play in Greene next Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a m in front of the B and W Food Store. B and W Fine Foods sponsor the free concert in town.
The November 1964 term of the District Court of Butler County opens November 16 with Judge T A Beardmore presiding. Jurors are to report November 23 at 10:60 am at the Allison courthouse. Names are listed by township, including Albion James Anderson and many others across Coldwater Dayton Fremont Jackson Madison Monroe Pittsford Ripley Shell Rock Washington West Point and more.
The senior class will host an all high school party in the high school gym after the Nashua and Greene football game on Friday night. The event ends at midnight. A freshman king and queen will be crowned with sponsors listed as Mr. Dougherty, Mr. Muhlenbruck, Miss Bundy, Miss Thomas, and Mr. Stephenson.

Events include 8:30 a.m. registration, Legion and Auxiliary meetings at the Legion Home and First Methodist Church, a service school at 10:00 a.m. conducted by Jerome Scheckel and R J Land, separate luncheons, and a joint banquet at the Coonley Hotel at 6:30 p.m.
Butler County towns will elect two year terms representatives to the County Extension Council over the next three weeks. The Commercial Club held an oyster stew and business meeting at the Community Center last Thursday. Bil Walker was named chairman of the fall and winter promotions committee, with Mrs. Clarence Shultz and James Mead as assistants. Keith Drake and Charles Stanton joined the nominating committee to select officers by the first part of December. The group also decided to extend post hours, keeping businesses open December 16 to 23 before the Christmas holiday.

North Central Iowa Masons plan their annual nine county Work Shop in Belmond on Monday November 2. Hoyt Woody of Reasner or a representative will present the new Masonic year program. The Grand Charity Board Iowa Committee on Masonic Education will present The Intender System to Masons. Greene Fire Department was called twice last week to extinguish cornfield blazes. One blaze on Clyde Stuntz property damaged about fifteen acres of stalks, started likely by a car stalk shredder spark. The other incident at Floyd Fiddick farm burned a small area of corn stalks from an unknown origin. crews kept flames from reaching unpicked fields.
The Rambler sophomore football team lost 32 to 7 at home to Rockford on Monday afternoon. The sophomores finished 1-1 on the season, with a win over Sheffield. Greene scored on a three yard run by John Barth in the third quarter. Rockford tallied three touchdowns in the first half and two in the second. Larry Weichers led Rambler rushers.
Greene Ramblers downed Rockford 33 to 12 on the Warriors home field to move within a win of the Corn Bowl Conference crown. Weichers and Stewart starred on offense, with Backer and Fisch er among standouts on defense as Greene built a 19 6 halftime lead.
The CROP drive kickoff meeting is set for Wednesday November 11 at 7 30 p m at the Farm Bureau building in Allison. Mr and Mrs Clair Weiss of Glenwood are parents of a daughter born Sunday October 25 in a Council Bluffs hospital. The infant weighs about nine pounds. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Art Weiss of Greene and Mr and Mrs Marvin Holcomb of Monroe Wisconsin.
Marine Private Richard Dale Backer son of Mr and Mrs August Backer of Greene is home on 20 days leave. He has just completed 12 weeks of recruit training at San Diego and 4 weeks of individual combat training at Camp Pendleton California. Upon completion of his leave he will report to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton where he will work in the motor transport maintenance field.
Scouts of Troop 26 Greene meet at Drake's corner Saturday at 9 AM for a hike to Flora's woods. They will work on Hall's Grove cemetery renovations, cook lunch, and may be joined by fathers and Webelos. Participants to bring tools and sack lunches. chain saw help urged for wind fallen oaks.
Mayor Bamker and James Lews Kingery of Greene faced speeding charges. each paid a $1000 fine plus $4 costs. Ellen LaFrentz of Coulter paid $2000 and $4 costs for speeding. Eunice Colby of Hampton charged with entering a through highway without stopping paid $1000 and $4 costs. Jess McIntosh of Charles City charged with stop sign violation fined $10 with $4 suspended and $4.09 noted.
