The Greene Recorder carries the final IPC ad in a seven part series arguing small towns can attract business with a clear development plan. Paul W. Larimore, IPC district manager, says towns must aim to improve, grow, and prosper to lure industry and that Interstate’s program helps communities organize local development efforts. He notes agriculture drives the area and industry is moving in.
James T. Gregory, conservation officer for the area, underwent surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester Minnesota. He expects to return home in Geneva around October 28. Other conservation officers have been assigned to handle work in Butler and Franklin counties during his recuperation.
Dallas Foster, stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola Florida, has been promoted from Airman First Class to Staff Sergeant. He entered the Air Force in December 1960 and trained at Lackland AFB San Antonio Texas. Foster is the son of Mr and Mrs Lowell Foster and his wife Sally Townsley and their children accompany him in Florida.
About 250 people attended the Republican fund raising dinner in the Boyd Building at Shell Rock on October 13, 1964. Congressman H R Gross and State Senator Bourke B Hickenlooper spoke on farm policy and world affairs. County officers, candidates, party officials, and the Central Committee were present with Mrs Judy Fossum of Cedar Falls and Parkersburg chair Herman Faber MCing. Rev Stickle gave the invocation and Helen VanDenberg welcomed, Mansfield Witt spoke in reply. Mrs C C Fisher and R H Mulder assisted with program and entertainment featured group singing.
The Iowa State Conservation Commission reports shotgun deer license results are finished with 2,000 unsuccessful applicants refunded their fees. Bow licenses face no limit, with 2,700 applicants so far. applications accepted through the season. The bow season ran from October 17 to December 6.
Staff Sergeant Dale Kaiser completed an officers special investigation school in Washington D C. He ranked third in a class of 48. He spent three days with his parents, then departed with his wife and children for St. Louis Missouri where he will be stationed.
The Young Republicans meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Polly's Restaurant Parkersburg with State Representative Charles Grassley in attendance. The Butler County Democratic Women's Club gathers Monday evening October 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Allison City Hall. guests welcome and members should bring auction items after the business meeting.
Mr and Mrs Verl Landers of Cedar Falls announce the birth of their son Scott Alan born at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Waverly on Saturday October 17. He weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs T J Monaghan of Waverly and Mr and Mrs Carl Landers.
Clare J. Grendler graduates from the Naval School of Pre flight Training at Pensacola Florida October 16 and is commissioned Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve. He visits his parents Mr and Mrs August Grendler this week before reporting to Pensacola for a 16 week course in electronics navigation and communications at the N A O.
Rambler B squad and sophomores both posted wins over Sheffield in a weekend set. In the main game, Hagarty and Wihlin scored early TDs and Schuknecht added an extra point as Ramblers led 13 0 at halftime before Trees and Weichers added late touchdowns. Craig Allison returned a kickoff 87 yards on the opening play but was called back for clipping. Weichers Hagarty Schafer starred on both sides. Squires and Thomason shone on defense. Sophomores then shut out Sheffield B 42 0 behind two TDs from Weichers and Hagarty and two more from Barth and Buffridge. Six extra points all came on runs. The sophomores next host Rockford on Monday October 26 at 4 00 pm.
Congressman H R Gross of Waterloo visited Marble Rock area on a re election tour in Floyd County hosted at Wayne and Mrs Taylor home. He was joined by Ralph McCartney of Charles City, candidate for Floyd County state representative, with coffee events at multiple homes including Mrs Walter Marsh and Mrs Raymond Shultz as the Floyd County Women’s Republican Club arranged the itinerary. The annual Rambler football banquet honoring the squad will be held Thursday evening November 5 at 6 30 pm in the Greene Community High School auditorium. Eighteen Iowa State University Army ROTC cadets at Ames were appointed to non commissioned rank for the current academic year. Lyle Prunty, son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Prunty, was promoted to Cadet Corporal.

The County Auditor in Allison displays the general election ballot and voting machine inviting public demonstrations and self practice. Absentee ballot requests are urged for those unable to vote in person due to business illness or disability. An audit of county offices found operations efficient with proper budgeting and adequate balances. Vernon Larsen elected to a second term as President of the Iowa Association of County Auditors.
Vicki Brunsma a freshman at the Junior College in Mason City was chosen queen for homecoming on Saturday night October 10 following the football game. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs B G Brunsma. This marks a second consecutive year a Greene family member has held the queen title. Last year’s queen was Diane Cheney, daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Cheney.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Steere welcomed a daughter born at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City on Friday October 16 weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces The newborn is named Tammy Jeanette reflecting a joyful family addition in the community.
The State Conservation Commission reminds waterfowl hunters that the second part of the split duck season opens Saturday October 24 1964 statewide. Hunting runs sunrise to sunset daily through November 26 with a four duck daily limit plus eight in possession for ducks other than geese and a ten daily limit twenty in possession for geese. The first portion three weeks earlier was very successful and opening day is expected to be strong again.
Charles Hurd returns home to Charles City after hospital treatment. Frank Hoel moves to son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Leland Whiteside's home following care at Cedar Valley Hospital for heart condition. Tala Schnee also returns home to Cedar City after weeks of treatment at Cedar Valley Hospital for injuries from a car accident.
Sharlene Hildebrand daughter of Mr and Mrs Gerald Wilde brand was chosen Eggs Princess at the Egg Promotion breakfast in Club Iowa Charles City Tuesday morning. Four counties participated. Sharlene will compete in the state contest in Des Moines on Friday October 23.

Greene Club oyster supper and meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center, with nominations planned.
Betty Hultman will visit Butler County towns on Thursday October 29 designated as Betty Hultman day. Mrs Glenn Stockdale 3rd district GOP Women leads arrangements with coffees in the Stockdale home near Aplington from 9 to 10 am. She will travel to Allison then Greene for 1 30 to 2 30 pm, with stops in Clarksville and Shell Rock and plans for Greene coffee hour.

Mr and Mrs Wayne Thomason and family and Leon Berger attended the boat races at Sioux City Sunday. Terry Thompson won two firsts in Runabout A and placed third in B Runabout sour and second in A Hydvre. details unclear.
Leo McEvirs 74, former Greene resident, died at Veterans Hospital Minneapolis from injuries suffered in a car accident near Rice Lake Wisconsin on Friday October 9. Sisters Miss Margaret McEniry and Miss Grace McEntry of Des Moines were in the accident but unharmed. Funeral services were held in Albert Lea Tuesday at 9 AM with burial there.
Infant Brendtlee Landers, child of Mr and Mrs Earl Landers, was baptized on Sunday at the Presbyterian Church. Great grandfather Roy Pooley assisted Rev. G F Butler with the ceremony.
About fifty people gathered at Greene Community School to meet candidates for state and county offices. Beverly Moffitt of Shell Rock spoke as a Democratic candidate for County Representative. Republicans introduced Vernon Kyle for State Senate and Charles Grassley for State Representative, along with Robert Schoeneman for County Attorney, Robert Klunder for County Recorder, Pete Boomgarden for Sheriff, Walter Wilhelm for Clerk of Court, Vernon Larsen for County Auditor, Victor Woodley for County Treasurer, and Cecil Starkweather for Second District Supervisor. Rax Love of Oelwein appeared as a Republican surrogate for Mr. Abramson for Treasurer of State. A social hour and refreshments followed.
Mr and Mrs Herbert Shafer attended funeral services for Mrs Clifton in Council Bluffs on Tuesday afternoon. Clifton was a former Greene area resident.
