The Nashua Bulldogs top the Little Ten prep gridiron standings at present and promise a tough test next week against Greene as they remain strong at every position. Fans are urged to travel to Nashua Friday night to see the Bulldogs face the Ramblers in a premier matchup.
Greene FFA members organize a corn belt safety drive visiting farm families to review safe operation rules for corn harvest equipment. Families accepting rules receive a Safe Operator sticker and the farm wife a Remember card, promoting safety as a family duty.
Calvin K. Kelly, Greene sales man for Roach Farms Inc Realtors Plainfield, announced three Greene area farm sales in two weeks. Paul Ott Estate farm west of Greene sold to Paul Drake. Earnest Rock farm southwest of Marble Rock sold to Graydon Anderson. E K West farm east of Greene sold to Earl Miller of Aredale. Henry Schmidt house in Greene purchased by Mrs. Ruby Johnson.
Mrs. Walter Zach of Aplington is named Butler County Director for the New March of Dimes for 1960. Robert D. Ray, Iowa campaign chairman, announced the appointment as the January drive prepares support for The National Foundation’s expanded program against birth defects arthritis and polio.
Vandals entered Frank Knight's garage Monday night and slashed all four tires on his car. The garage was closed but not locked. The Butler County Sheriff's Office was notified and the crime is under investigation. Heavy charges will be filed against the vandals when they are caught.
The junior class schedules the fall mystery comedy I Was A Teen Age Dracula in three acts by Dramatic Publishing. Justice Court Bernard Merfeld of Marble Rock faces an improper passing fine of 10 dollars plus 4 dollars costs. Mayors Court Jeffry Smith of Nashua has a stop sign fine of 10 dollars and 2.50 dollars costs. Dick Niehaus of Dike charged with speeding and stop sign violations with 13 dollars fine and 3.50 dollars costs. Homer Blackburn of Charles City fined 10 dollars for a stop sign plus 3.50 dollars costs. Harold Holzschuh of Greene charged with intoxication with 50 dollars fine and 3.50 dollars costs.
Karl Kleinschmidt returned home from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City last Friday after surgery on October 16. Warren Hollingsworth also came home from Cedar Valley Hospital on October 20 after treatment.
The Martin Luther film will air next Saturday on KW WL TV and WMT TV. It starts at 4:00 PM on WMT channel 2 in Cedar Rapids and at 10:00 PM on KWWL channel 7 in Waterloo.
A scaffolding collapsed injuring Howard Raisty of Greene and Russell Oehlert of Chapin while building a corn crib on an acreage near Powersville. They fell fifteen feet and suffered painful injuries with possible broken ankle or sprain pending X rays. Oehlert is confined to his home in Chapin. Both men were bruised and the full extent of injuries is not known.
Mr and Mrs Marvin Moser traveled to Iowa City on Monday to collect their daughter Jan two who was discharged from the polio ward of the Children s Hospital where she had been a patient since August 11.
Greene voters go to polls next Tuesday to choose a mayor and five council members for the January 1, 1960 to January 1, 1962 term. Polls open 8 am to 8 pm with separate party tickets and a write in option on the independent ticket.
Guy C. Troop 265 conducted a house to house canvass on Monday October 26 after school to support UNICEF. The event ended with a meeting at City Hall where new members were initiated as officers Mary Ellen Warley led as president and Pamela Drakle as vice president with Vicki Brunsma secretary and Sally Hammel treasurer.
Mr and Mrs James Spratt of Greene welcome a daughter named Kelly Jean born Monday evening at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The birth adds a new member to the Spratt household and local record.
The senior class honored freshmen with a party in the school lunch room on Saturday. From a two week list of cooperative and respectful freshmen, JoAnn Backer was named queen and Freddie Miller was named king at the initiation event.
Merrill Peters, son of Mr and Mrs John Peters, who left October 19 for service, has joined the Marines and is stationed at San Diego California.
Greene High School Ramblers crushed Rockford 38 to 0 in a home game. Peters scored twice and Grendler added rushing TDs as Greene built a 25 0 lead by halftime and held Rockford scoreless thend. Rattler added a 32 yard scamper after reserves entered.
The PTA will meet in the school auditorium at 8 00 this evening October 28. The program is in charge of the faculty with a focus on education. All parents are urged to attend this meeting.
Paul Hamilton Jr son of Mr and Mrs was treated after a minor eye injury Monday evening when a nail flown from a bounced basketball struck the eyeball. He received care at a local physician’s office.
Leonard C. Rowland of Des Moines has accepted the position of Scout Executive of the Winnebago Council based in Mason City. Curtis G. Riehm announced the appointment, effective November 1, succeeding Peter S. De Jong who retired September 1. Rowland will oversee Boy Scout activities in nine North Iowa counties and a 300 acre camp near Marble Rock. He brings 22 years in scouting and World War II service, with degrees from the University of Kansas City and further personnel training.
Jam Steere, 69, was injured Monday at his farm near Plainfield when gored by a bull. He died shortly after at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. He and wife Viola Barta lived on a Greene farm for years before moving to Plainfield 25 years ago. Survivors include his wife, seven daughters, two sons, three brothers Will August and Albert Steee, and one sister Ida T nneman of Greene. Preceded by parents, one son, two brothers Henry and Emil, and one sister. Funeral Friday at the rural Lutheran Church near Plainfield.
John Dobel came home Monday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where he received x-ray treatments for his condition.

Butler County authorities investigate a series of break ins in New Hartford and Aplington. Thieves stole three shotguns two rifles and numerous 410 and 22 shells from New Hartford Hardware on October 21. Earlier, on October 19, $40 in change was taken from the cash register.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Katcher of Charles City Larry Sidmore of Mason City and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Viers returned home Saturday morning from a deer hunting trip to Wyoming. They hunted in the Saratoga and Rawlins areas. Mrs. Viers did not hunt while the others each got a deer and Mrs. Katcher took a two point buck.
Mrs I Kinsedahl learned her sister Mrs Hjal mer Johnson of Kolispell Montana died Sunday night in a death notice.
A Social Security Administration District Office representative will visit Allison at the Court House on November 2 and 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to help with federal old age survivors disability insurance benefits applications, social security number cards, and employer identification numbers.
