The Winnebago Area Council Cub and Boy Scouts completed their Fourth Annual Good Turn Day Clothing Drive for handicapped workers at Goodwill Industries. Cub Scouts distributed 24,000 bags in 47 towns on Sept 26. Boy Scouts collected 14,407 bags by Oct 3 and 390 bags in Greene. Greene ranked fifth districtwide with 102 bags collected.
The 1959 Butler County Farm Bureau annual meeting is set for Wednesday evening October 28 with a 6:30 p.m. banquet and an 8:00 p.m. business session. Officers will be elected and resolutions from this year’s policy program will be approved. Guest speaker is Harry Storey of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Entertainment includes Mason City Chamber of Commerce Chorus and Barbershop Quartets.
B. W. Berry, 82, died Friday night October 8 in Tucson Arizona. Funeral and burial were held at Newton on Wednesday. Born in Benned ette township near Greene he earlier ran the local Light Plant. Surviving are two half sisters Mrs Louis Murphy Greene and Mrs Ethel Bed rosian San Luis Obispo California and one half brother Robert Berry Fredericksburg. A daughter Mrs R C O'Halloran lives in Clarksville.
The UNICEF campaign invites Greene residents to support global children in need. Girl Scouts Pon 265 will canvass, meeting at the schoolhouse at 4 PM to receive districts, then assemble at City Hall for lunch and new member initiation.
The Philharmonia Hungarica, an 80 member orchestra formed by refugees from Hungary's 1956 revolt led by Zoltan Rozsnyai, will perform at Wartburg College on November 5. The musicians average 25, many prizewinners, funded by local citizens with instruments and attire, now on their first American tour with early support from Ford and Rockefeller Foundations.

Paul Willingham and John Luther of Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis will speak at the Church of Christ in Greene on Sunday evening October 25 at 7 30 p m. They spent last summer in Homer Alaska helping build a log cabin for the Alaska Christian Home for Children and assisted with Vacation Bible School. Slide pictures will illustrate their experiences in the 49th state. Dorothy and Marjorie Thomas daughters of Ira and Mrs Thomas will live in the new cabin. The Thomas sisters have served with the Alaska Christian Home since November 1957. All interested in Alaska and the Alaska Christian Home are invited to attend.
Greene court records show Luman Steere of Greene paying fines and costs after speeding incidents. In Mayor Starkweather's court, Larry William son, Eddie Hesalroad, Ruth Hardy, Lucille Bockemeier, Patrick O'Brien, Bruce Mead, Marvin Saltzman, and Gerald William Curtis faced various charges including speeding, failure to yield, car under control, stop sign violations, disturbing the peace, and drinking beer on a public street. Curtis faced two separate charges with bonds and preliminary hearings.
Butler county residents invested 71589 in United States savings bonds during September, bringing nine month total to 898758 for 88 percent of the 1959 quota. Iowa sales reached 8107008, at 71 percent of quota. nation 65 percent. John McWhirter of Allison, chairing the program, notes new E and H bonds earn 3 3/4 percent interest to maturity. Old bonds earn at least 1 percent more after time, urging continued investment.
Henry Burma of Allison has been appointed probation officer of the 12th Judicial district by the four judges. He succeeds Frank Neal, who died weeks ago, and will oversee probation work across six counties Butler Bremer Hancock Mitchell Worth and Winnebago with a salary of 5000 dollars per year.
Tom Albrecht announced that over 1800 volunteers will support Friends of Scouting efforts in 50 communities within Winnebago Council this month. About 5,000 boys are active in Scouting across Butler Floyd Mitchell Franklin Wright Hancock Winnebago Worth Cerro Gordo counties.
Rural residents near Floyd County challenged the ARMA district formation as illegal. The Iowa Supreme Court reversed a Floyd County district court ruling from 1958 that had voided the district election. Plaintiffs argued school travel distance favored Greene over Rockford and sought to be excluded.

Dodge led Methodist work in Europe and Africa for years and oversees Angola Mozambique and Southern Rhodesia with headquarters in Salisbury. Representatives from 56 churches across 11 counties are expected.
Bernard Ramker was discharged from Cedar Valley Hospital and returned home Monday after undergoing surgery on October 12.
Butler County records its first traffic death of 1959. Frederick George Carstens, 32, of Ackley, was killed near Aplington on Highway 20 when his car struck a bridge abutment at 6:15 am Sunday October 18 after apparently dozing off.
Mrs Duane Leavens entered Worrell hospital in Rochester Minnesota for treatment on Sunday.
The Holstein rresian Association of America announced completion of an outstanding official record for a cow owned by Ellis and Smith of Greene. Gloria Burke Fobes Sovereign 4023681 produced 15,752 pounds of milk and 554 pounds of butterfat in 365 days with twice daily milking as a three year old.

Guy Sebaugh of Marble Rock died suddenly at his home on Tuesday evening at 7 30. Rites are set for Friday at 2 00 p m at the Marble Rock Methodist Church. Hamilton's Funeral Chapel handles arrangements.
The Junior High Rambler football team closed the season with a 42 to 20 win over Nora Springs, posting a 3-1 record. Kingery and Rottler sparked the offense with multiple touchdowns and a 65 yard sweep, while Don Devies directed the attack after Myers was ill, completing six of eleven passes including a 45 yard TD. Defensive standouts included Jewell, Eckhoff, Mead, and Busse as Nora Springs fought back in the first half and added two TDs late in the game.
Ramblers fall 6-0 to St Ansgar as hosts struggle with drive stalls and turnovers. Key plays come from Kittleson and Grendler but defense and penalties keep the Ramblers scoreless. Next up, Ramblers host Rockford for Dad's Night Friday under the lights.
Thirty two lodges will participate in an Eight County Masonic Institute to be held at the Masonic Temple in Britt on November 4. Oscar Edsten chairs arrangements. Rever end John Fritzmeier and Dale S. Wallace will open the event at 9 43 AM. The program is sponsored by the Iowa Committee on Masonic Education with Darius Lodge No 431 of Britt. Participating lodges include all lodges recognized by the Grand Lodge of Iowa AF AM across multiple north Iowa counties.
The Greene Recorder is selected to join a nationwide Oregon Saw Chain advertising campaign. Beginning this week, 11 Midwestern states will carry ads in 559 publications. The effort follows last fall's success and 1958 results, highlighting the local paper as a key advertising medium for Oregon Chain.
Four break-ins in New Hartford Sunday night netted thieves $63 in change. Targets included New Hartford Elevator New Hartford Hardware Townsend and Morrill Lumber Co and Heett's Grocery. Entry came via broken front doors and windows.

Mr and Mrs Big Moulton of Bedford greet a daughter Lynette Kay born October 13 weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce. Mrs Moulton is the former Donna Curtis. Mr and Mrs Charles Merrick of Marble Rock welcome a son Stuart Wilder born October 19 weighing 9 pounds 2 12 ounces at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City.
John and LeRoy Revsack both appeared before Judge Wild on Saturday morning October 11 on a breaking and entering charge involving a grocery store in Aredale dated October 8. They were released to their parents and placed under juvenile probation officer Henry Burma of Allison.
Dr. Joseph Broncel, superintendent of Ganada Indian Mission at Ganada, Arizona, will be guest speaker at Friesland Presbyterian Church near Ackley on Sunday evening October 25 at 7 30.
