Twenty four year old James Alexander Thompson of Dawson Creek British Columbia is held in the County Jail at Waterloo on a charge of forgery. Thompson allegedly cashed a $40 check made payable to F. J. Conlon and signed C. Stanton of Greene at a New Hartford tavern. Information by Allison Sheriff led to Thompson’s arrest. Additional forged checks tied to Charles Stanton Livestock dealer in Greene are noted. Romaine Janssen of Ackley charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated first offense on October 31. Bond set at $350. Janssen held in Allison jail after failing to furnish bond. Dean Steere of Allison arrested Sunday on disturbing the peace charge. pleaded not guilty in Allison Mayors Court, posted $100 cash bond.

Four Floyd County Men Found After Minnesota Plane Crash
Four Floyd County men missing since August 21 en route to Canada on a fishing trip were found by a Minnesota Civil Air Patrol plane near Cleverton. The wreckage was located after a 73 day air search. Passengers include Lloyd Boofer, 44, pilot from Elma. Leland Chestek, 47, and William Schneider, 44, of Colwell. and Fred Wegner, 67, south of Colwell. Funeral services were held for Schneider in Charles City.Chestek, Boofer, Wegner and Schneider were named as survivors’ links with Colwell and Greene.

Donald Dean Brinkman 28 of Allison died Monday at 10 30 am when a transformer pole failed near Plainfield. He worked for the REA and was assisting with guy wires when a high voltage line fell on him. He married Marlene Meyers in 1955 and leaves a wife, a daughter Robin and a son Kevin, plus his parents. Military funeral services are set for 2 00 pm at the Associated Church in Allison with burial in Allison Cemetery.

Iowa State University in Ames operates a $170,000 teaching nuclear reactor the first west of the Mississippi. It delivers 10,000 watts heat and is for student instruction only. The 150 ton uranium fueled unit spans about 1,000 square feet in an engineering lab and uses about pounds of uranium in two cooling tanks flowing water at 11 gallons a minute to remove heat.
