The Rambler team travels to Nashua Friday night to meet the Bulldogs in a crucial conference clash. Nashua seeks to keep the Little Brown Jug after winning it last year on Rambler soil as a loyal crowd backs the squad for a pivotal performance.
Over 600 attendees packed the Greene storefront at the Mel's TV grand opening on Main Street last Saturday. Carl Taylor won the 12 inch portable TV, Dayton Mather claimed the color antenna, and Tom Albrecht took home the transistor radio.
Mrs Bernard Dougherty 90 died at home in Dougherty on Friday born Ellen Mullen in West Fork Oct 5 1874 married at St Patrick's Church Dougherty. Survived by daughters Marie Edna Dougherty Mason City Gladys Ann Dougherty Dougherty and Vera Ramker Greene two sisters and many others. Requiem High Mass celebrated at St Patrick's Church with burial in St Patrick's Cemetery Dougherty.
The Quarterback Club sponsors its annual banquet to honor the 1965 Rambler football team on Thursday November 4 at the high school auditorium. Serving starts at 6:30 pm. Tickets are available from Drakle's Department Store Bellous Barber Shop Mead Drug or Quarterback Club members.
The Boy Scouts will visit an Indian battle ground 9 miles west of Greene next Saturday morning October 30th. All Scouts planning to go should be at Drake's corner by 9:00 a.m. The group will return to Greene before noon. Fathers able to provide transportation are welcome to join.
John Osier is spending a 13 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Donald Osier in Greene. He has been stationed at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and will depart this weekend for Fort Eustis Virginia to attend helicopter school.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors a kids Halloween parade on Saturday evening October 30 at Perrin Park. Assemble by 7 45 p.m. at the tennis court for an 8 p.m. start, with prizes for three age groups and candy for participants. A window painting contest runs Saturday and Friday hours with paints provided, prizes of 5 3 and 1 dollars, and store owner permission required for grades four through eight.
Mr and Mrs Duane Mather of Waterloo announce the birth of a daughter Suzanne Marie on October 24. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Eldred Mather and Mr and Mrs Russell Duncan.
Greene Community School schedules parent teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday November 3 and 4. No school for kindergartners or Grades 1 through 6 on November 3. Parents receive conference times by mail. questions to elementary secretary 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at 823-5629.
Lestie Van Raden of Kesley spoke to the Greene Junior Chamber of Commerce on October 19 regarding relocation due to labor, financing, and expansion needs. He runs Van Raden Manufacturing making power drives and camping trailers and plans a truck mounted camper and safety ladder. A relocation committee including Lloyd Bigter Jim Menken Galen Lindell and Harold Heeren was formed to study possible site options.
Martha Stuntz daughter of Mr and Mrs Clyde Stuntz has been invited to membership in Sigma Alpha Iota professional music fraternity at Iowa State University. Membership is based on musical talent and participation in musical events plus faculty recommendation. Miss Stuntz is a member of the Iowa State Symphony and a sophomore in physical education for women.
Incumbent William Ramker seeks re election as mayor in Greene with seven candidates running for five council seats. Incumbent councilmen Owen Adams John Hamilton David Markle and Leonard Nichol seek re election alongside Levi Ackart Clarence Teeple and Douglas Walker. Voting at City Hall 8 am to 8 pm on November 3 for two year terms.
Karl Klemschmid was taken to Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City Sunday night for observation and treatment.
Sara Jane Rottler daughter of Mr and Mrs Harr Green plays first violin with Iowa State University 71 member Symphony Orchestra. The group will perform in Algona Webster City on Sunday October 31 and repeat at the Iowa State Armory in Ames on Sunday November 7.
Mrs A L Ismay, mother of Mrs Russell Duncan of Greene, died Sunday night in Fulton Missouri after several weeks illness. She is survived by her husband two sons one daughter Mrs Russell Duncan of Greene four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 pm in Fulton. Mr and Mrs Duncan attended services in Fulton.
National Children's Book Week runs October 31 to November 6 with sponsorship by the Children's Book Council Incorporated to foster reading among children. The 1965 theme Sing Out for Books features Ezra Jack Keats as poster designer. Library displays include Keats posters, streamers, and related books. Home From Hospital Mr Charles Price returns home Tuesday from the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines after a month of observation and treatment.
Farmers receiving farm program payments must supply their Social Security numbers. The ASC County Office mailed forms labeled Request for Identifying Number Farmer with a postage paid return envelope. Beginning January 1, 1966 the number will appear on payment drafts and be reported to the IRS, as is done for bank and dividend income. Any questions should be directed to the ASC County Committee.
Interstate Power Company wins a national honor for its development program Smirl Town Big On portunits by the Faison Electric Institute. IPC leaders accepted the award at the ERI area development conference in Philadelphia. The program includes a 12 page booklet and seven advertisements urging towns to improve themselves. The Green Recorder sponsored ads formed the campaign suggesting business and industry focus on metropolitan areas. Paul W Larimore IPC district manager noted several small Texas towns in a three state service area have benefited from community development efforts.
Mrs Catherine Sneed of Omaha Nebraska spent last Wednesday with her son and daughter in law Mr and Mrs Sam Sneed at their home in town.
The November 1965 term of the Castnet Court of Butler County will commence November 15 with Hon. B. C Sullivan of Rockford presiding. Trial jurors will appear November 22 at 10:00 a.m. The townships list, announced by Clerk Walter W. Wilhelm, includes Albion with Harvey Harberts Andrew Kadous Mrs Alva Everis Joyce Holwerda Beaver, Benverette, Merle Grandon Daston Jackson Jefferson Madison Monroe Pittsford Shell Rock Washington West Point townships with numerous jurors such as Roberta Scott Lource Kollman Dale Schroeder Hugo Senne Vena Gai’ Kelly Leona Nieman and others.
Parents Mr and Mrs Loy Conn Bristow announce the birth of a son Monday October 18 at Flord County Veteran's Memorial Hospital Charles City. Bradley Loy weighs 7 pounds 15 ounces and has a sister Connie Jane. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Cec Conn Bristow and Mr and Mrs Allie Wagner Dumont. at home.
Emmett Busch becomes president of the Butler County Heart Unit of the Town Heart Association succeeding Dr. Frank McKean. New officers include Fyer sor of Shell Rock as vice president, Ruth Miller as secretary, Dale Schroeder as treasurer, and Mrs Joan Van Eschen as community chairman. Memorial gifts total 1494 to support cardiovascular research, with Butler County ranking second in the North Central Division. The group plans education and fund raising for 1963 66 and local stroke program sponsorship with division support.
Greene Ramblers upset previously unbeaten Rudd Rockford Marble Ruck Warners 13 to 7 to seize second in the Corn Bowl Conference and set a decisive clash with Nashua for the title. Key scoring came as Tom Hagarty sped outside for the winning TD after a Warrior fumble, with Allen and Barth among top Ramblers standouts. A Friday visit to Nashua could clinch the conference crown if Greene wins.
Former Cedar Falls resident Mrs Mark E. Van Slyke 58 died at Surtori Hospital from drug reaction. Born Lucille Baker in Greene August 6, 1907 she married Mark E Van Slyke July 13, 1929. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at First Methodist Church Cedar Falls with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include husband two sons Gary Lee of Vinton and Mark Dean of Lafayette Indiana mother Mable Baker of Charles City brother Earl Baker of Alen Minnesota sister Ruby Danley of Odell Nebraska.
General feeding and management topics will be discussed at a swine production meeting Thursday night at Allison. Extension staff from Town on University and County Extension Service will present information on rations forms, competitive feeds, and swine mixes. Refreshments will be served after the meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the County Extension office.
Robert TD Folkers of Greene charged with intoxication. The fine was set at 2500 with 400 costs, 1000 suspended. Ersn Otte Aust of Hampton and Fthan A Shipp of Waverly paid 1000 fines plus 400 costs on charges of entering a through highway without stopping. William Potter of Greene charged with night speeding paid 10 fine and 400 costs.
