The Ramblers travel to Rockford for a pivotal game as Rockford remains undefeated. Greene must halt the streak to keep a shot at the conference title with strong coaching noted and fan support urged for a loud, united turnout.
Republican State Chairman Robert D. Ray appeals to Iowa voters to join the Buck Night fundraiser on Thursday evening. He frames it as citizen support to keep party control in public hands and notes the drive will test local organization across counties ahead of the 1966 campaign.
Mrs. Dorothy Mehlan of Greene joined 120 Iowa secondary and college math teachers at the 35th Annual Conference for Teachers of Mathematics held October 15 at the University of Iowa. The one day meeting, with national trends in math education, was in cooperation with the Town section of the Mathematical Association of America and sponsored by UI divisions. Mrs. Mehlan teaches at Rockford.
Richard Timmer of Moline Illinois, a former Waverly resident, is among 177 Illinois men and women awarded CPA certificates at the Illinois Society of CPAs dinner in Chicago. He graduated Wartburg College, is married to Marie Wilkins, has a two year old son, and works as a supervisor at Golden Kutsunis and Hoover in Rock Island.
The Senior class fall comedy Charley's Aunt features Jim Drakle as Stephen Spettigue and Lor ettee Litterer as Amy Spettigue. Cheryl Brinkman plays Kitty Verdun with Gordon Sneed and Jerry Fisher in supporting roles as Babberly and Sir Francis Chensey. Ann Merfeld portrays Donna Lucia with Ela Delahay and Kathy Weinberg as assistants. Clyde Grey and Bill Walker play butlers. directed by Mrs Gary Dgloe the play opens the second week in November.
Mr and Mrs Roger Schuknecht welcomed a son named Jeffrey Eugene on Thursday October 14 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City. The baby weighed 7 pounds 11% ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Leo Frascht and Mr and Mrs Franklin Schuknecht.
Leonard D. Griner son of Mr and Mrs Wilford Griner will preach at the Church of Christ in Greene for four Sundays starting October 24 at 1030 a.m. Regular minister William Whitney will attend Dale Carnegie Institute in New Jersey during this period.
Fred Strickler 76 of Storm Lake a former Greene resident died in Buena Vista County Hospital. He married Nina Kahuda on July 5 1917. He worked at Evans Blumer and Company Greene then ran a Storm Lake business and served eight years on the city council. Survived by wife three sisters and predeceased by a brother and four sisters. Funeral at Lakeside Presbyterian Church Storm Lake with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery Greene.
The Greene Community Schools will be closed on Friday as teachers attend the State Teachers Convention in Des Moines. Pupils in all grades will be dismissed around 3:00 PM Thursday, with buses taking them home shortly after. classes resume Monday.
Expenditures from public assistance funds in Iowa rose to 5 491 450 for September, with Butler County total at 33 571. Aid to Dependent Children led disbursements with 7 511 to 49 cases, while 86 Old Age recipients got 19 271 and 41 Medical Aid to the Aged received 4 126. Aid to Disabled saw medical care added after an increased AD appropriation and 17 recipients received 1 610.
Robert K. Morgan, 19, of Greene, a technician third class in the Navy, died after a motorcycle collision in Taipei Formosa on Friday October 15. He was hit by a weapons carrier when his motorcycle tangled with a three wheeled cart while attached to the U S Headquarters Support Activity in Taipei. Survivors include his mother Mrs Nellie Morgan of Florida and a sister Mrs Lee Shook of Junction City Kansas.
Butler County 4 H plans a November 6 8 00 p m awards night in the Farm Bureau Auditorium. Two older 4 H members will receive the 4 H Achievement trophies funded by the Butler County 4 H Trust Fund. Chicago Trip Award winners will be announced along with dairy and home furnishings honors and membership certificates.
Henry Behrends Jr. of Clarksville to serve as Civil Defense director for both Butler and Bremer Counties. One director will manage joint programs with 31 percent federal funding and the rest split by population. Behrends will work two days weekly in each county, tentatively Mondays and Wednesdays in Butler.
Mrs. Lillian Downs aged 89 died Saturday at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital after one week as patient. She born June 7 1876 in Greene daughter of Martin and Adaline Wise married Sherman W. Downs May 28 1893. Survived by son Harry Greene daughters Esther Needham and Zella Shook sister-in-law Mrs Julius Hildebrand ten grandchildren twenty two great grandchildren three great great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday 2 PM First Methodist Church Greene Rev Wayne Gjerde officiating burial Rose Hill Cemetery Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Wednesday bowling was postponed to Friday for the Hot Shot and Tight Rollers leagues. Each league will bowl Friday evening at the same time as Wednesday’s scheduled start.
Sharon Poppe daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Poe spent several days in Mercy Hospital Waverly for a head infection. Roy Pooley is expected to return home Wednesday from Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo where he was treated last week.
A newly delivered fire apparatus from Greene's Apparatus Company arrived for a test run in Vicrohalltown. The $14,000 Ford-powered truck features a 2500 gpm pump, 1000 gallon tank, and two hour run capability at 150 pph. Mayor William J. Bamker and Fire Chief Lowell Maxson attended the test, which followed a false alarm triggered by an automatic ice alarm.

Sheriff Pete E Boomgarden of Alison files a 35000 libel suit in district court Waterloo against the Waterloo Daily Courier. He alleges the October 11 issue marred his reputation by accusing him of selecting winning football picks in the Major Hoople contest and says the entry was not sent by him or authorized.

Emil Henry Kammeyer born September 22 1898 in Butler County died October 12 while working at Heery Woods Park. He married Lucinda Ellerman January 1 1928 and had son Kenneth. Funeral services were in Immanuel United Church of Christ Clarksville with Rev Reuben Tapp officiating. Interment Lynwood Cemetery.
Janice Nikolas daughter of Mr and Mrs Leo Nikolas was crowned homecoming queen at Osage on Friday evening October 8. She is a granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Pattschull of Greene.
Cadette Girl Scouts will collect money for UNICEF on Monday October 25. They meet at the Youth Center at 4:00 p.m. Each girl brings her own container for the funds. Supper will be provided by the Senior Scouts at 5:30 p.m. at the Youth Center.
The Greene Sportsman's Club will stage a trap shoot at the grounds on the north edge of Greene next Sunday October 24 at 1 00 pm. If rain interrupts the event it will be held October 31 at the same time.

Greene Ramblers surged after a slow start to defeat St Ansgar 21 to 6. Key plays included Ramker’s 2 yard TD run and Barth, Hagarty, and Barth again on offense, with strong defense limiting St Ansgar in a tight contest.
The Greene Jaycees sponsor a kids Halloween parade and window decorating contest on Main Street at 8:00 p.m. Saturday October 30. Prizes candy and apples will be given. Jaycees provide window paint and kids may pick up supplies at Dr. Jaspers office Friday 3:30–5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00–12:00 a.m. and 1:00–2:00 p.m.
County Masonic Workshop chaired by Mark E. Ferguson will convene at the Masonic Temple 504 Blunt Street Charles City on October 30 with 29 lodges expected. The program includes scholarly papers by Mora Springs Buffalo Center Northwood Nashua and Clarksville members and a 600 PM dinner hosted by the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Allen G. Chambers 16 of Marble Rock died in a car crash near Marble Rock on October 12. He was a junior at Rockford Marble Rock High School and active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Survivors include parents John and Rebecca, two brothers and a sister. burial at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Bert Squires 91 died Friday night at Edna's Nursing Home in Allison. Born May 2, 1874 in Greene to Lewis Squires Sr, he was preceded in death by his wife Dot Shultz of Marble Rock. Surviving are a son Harold and two sisters. Funeral 1:30 p m Monday at Dehl Funeral Home with Rev James Miller. Burial in Hillside Cemetery at Marble Rock.
The Butler District camporee will take place this weekend at the campsite three miles south of the junction of Highways 3 and 14. Scouts from the area meet at Albrecht's Feed Mill on Saturday at 8 30 a.m. Bring a sack lunch for noon and one dollar to cover the remaining meals prepared at the campsite.
