Mrs Lyle Shultz underwent an appendectomy at Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on Monday morning.
Rev James Parks will leave Sunday afternoon October 27 for McPherson Kansas to attend the Regional Conference of the Church of the Brethren. The event runs through Thursday morning October 31 with Parks expected home that evening. Main speaker is Dr Dale Turner KU professor. Other readers include Rev James Dean Wichita Rev Stuart Kauffman Rufus King Anna Warsiler W Harold Row and Norman Baugher. Rev Patm Miller of Panther Creek Church Adel will discuss his Russia trip Monday evening.
Henry Vander Kolk 74 died at his rural home near Greene on October 17 after a long life in Iowa. Born August 11 in Lonneker Netherlands he moved to the United States in 1912, lived in Dike, then Butler County, with survivor Joe Vander Kolk of Greene. Funeral services were held October 21 at Hamilton’s Funeral Chapel Greene with Rev G F Butler officiating. Burial followed in Dike cemetery.
About 130 Butler County 4-H members seek beef calves to enroll as a project and show at next summer’s County Fair. Calves should weigh 400 to 450 pounds now, reach around 600 pounds by January 1, and must be 650 pounds or less by then. Emphasizes careful selection, public market options, and prudent buying for profitable futures.
Friedrich Ennen and his wife first names appear as Greene residents who took the citizenship oath in Federal Court Mason City last Wednesday before Judge Henry W. Graven. The ceremony marked a record naturalization class of thirty three, with Greene High School students and staff among witnesses.

Rev George S Knutson pastor in Corwith Iowa will start at Greene Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday October The Knutsons both Northwestern Bible School graduates have served in Canby Minnesota Brazil missions and Canby before moving to Corwith in 1954 They concluded their Corwith tenure October 13 and left for a Colorado vacation to visit Mrs Knutson's mother They have no children
According to Max Heidenwirth owner of Greene Farm Equipment and Agriculture Co the Minneapolis Moline Uni Husker won first place in the two row corn picking contest at the National Corn Picking Contest in Sioux Falls South Dakota. The second place went to another MM Uni Husker and the third to an MM two row husker.
Mrs Buena Mockfore a child development specialist from Iowa State College will host the Home Fare program over WMT-TV each Wednesday through December 4. The series titled Growing Healthy Personalities features the next program October 30 on Green and Growing Toddlers. All viewers are urged to watch this educational series.
Mrs. Leo Crahan of Nashua was killed instantly in a two car crash north of Greene on Friday at about 7 36 pm. Injured were Crahan and Wilson Clark and Myron Eikenberry of Greene. Clark had chest injuries, Crahan head injury, Eikenberry face lacerations and possible broken ribs. Clark said Crahan’s eastbound car moved onto Highway 14 and collided with his northbound vehicle. Crahan’s 1950 Ford and Clark’s 1951 Packard were destroyed. A 1948 Pontiac and a gas pump were damaged. Coroner Dr. James Baumann said Mrs. Crahan was thrown from the car and found under a parked vehicle. This was Floyd County’s fourth fatality of the year.
Engineering teams are conducting studies on the Big Marsh in Butler County between Allison and Parkersburg. Shallow observation wells line the lower marsh perimeter to measure seepage and infiltration losses. Continued favorable weather will allow data collection and inform future Commission recommendations.
New residents Mr and Mrs Claude Kanter announce the birth of a daughter at Cedar Valley hospital in Chites City on Wednesday October 16. Jane Pauline weighs 9 ounces and is the family name. Mr and Mrs Steve Brandt of Allison celebrate a son born Tuesday morning October 22 weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces.
Coach Jerry Eimers' Junior high squad defeated Nashua 7 to 0, finishing the season 4 wins and two ties. The Ramblers earlier beat Riceville and Nora Springs, with multiple first downs and yards on the ground and through the air. Gabe Greene scored on a second quarter sneak from the 1 yard line, with Pooto Green delivering the conversion pass.
During the worship service at the Presbyterian Church Jean ne Marie and Mark Joerec were baptized. They are children of Mr and Mrs Des Marvin Moser and Mr and Mrs Ga len Hitler respectively. Grandparents attended the ceremony.
Eighteen girls attended the first regular Girl Scouts meeting and 28 are expected to join. The group plans to cooperate with the United Nations Committee to collect funds for needy women and children worldwide instead of Halloween treats. The drive began in October with a program at City Hall under Scout leaders Miss Marguerite Ack Harmine Bloom. Hamburgers will be served at six with an initiation and Halloween party to follow, and organizers hope broad civic support will make the drive a success.
The Round Grove Golf and Country Club closes out the year with a dance at the club house on Wednesday evening October 30. Members are urged to attend. Food committee is led by Mr and Mrs Jim Drake, ticket sales by Mr and Mrs Galen Martzahn. Music by Glenn Riggins and orchestra.
The junior class play scheduled for this evening is indefinitely postponed because of a flu outbreak at the Community School.
Greene FFA chapter starts a statewide corn harvest safety drive visiting farmers to promote hazard awareness and pledge safe operation. Volunteers distribute safety materials and stickers for compliant equipment. President Dennis Ott notes equipment is safe when operated properly and aims to cut down harvest accidents.
Mr and Mrs Roland Kingery moved to Mason City last Wednesday and he accepted a position with Braniff. He began employment on Thursday.
Notice warns landowners to remove fences along county roads ditches within the road right of way. County Attorney opines that a motorist could sue the county for damage caused by fences placed on road shoulders or ditches, even without a permit. Read the notice if you have a fence in the right of way.
In a tense conference clash, Saint Ansgar edged Ramblers 18 to 13 after overcoming a 13-9 deficit. Steinberg connected on a late TD pass to Clausen, while Greene’s defense kept Ramblers from scoring in the second half. The result leaves Ramblers needing wins over Rockford and Nashua to force at least a tie for first.
Greene Community School officials urge parents to keep children home at least one day after fever ends. Many students returned too soon and were sent home again, indicating they had not fully recovered from the flu.

The Butler County Chapter American Red Cross holds its regular quarterly board meeting in Allison City Hall on Monday October 28 at 8 o clock. Guest speaker will be Wm Gal Braith field representative from Clear Claire.
A report by Ard Yee Sampson of Butler County Extension notes USDA research finds many frozen foods including meats poultry and vegetables stay solid around 26 degrees F but require much lower temperatures to maintain peak quality. Researchers evaluate vitamin content flavor color and texture to determine best processing and storage temperatures, with different foods needing different methods.
