The first regular Girl Scout meeting will be held Monday evening October 21 at 7 30 in City Hall. Girls aged 10 to 15 are invited. Leaders for the year are Marguerite and Hermine Bloem, Greene Community School teachers, with prior camp work. Alma Heckman leads YMCA pool swimming and respiration classes. Esther Smith steps down after two years to join Pioneer Scouts.
Sunday baptism at the Lutheran Church in Nora Springs for Mark Alan infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Runge. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Loren Weavering of Mason City and Imogene Barnhart.
The Butler County Historical Society will close its charter membership list on November 1, 1957. Membership is open to anyone interested in preserving Butler County history. current count is 71. Dues are one dollar yearly and the annual meeting occurs the second Friday in May. The Hoofbeats have been invited to perform at Osage on Saturday evening. They will take part in the parade starting at 7:30 PM. The event marks the completion of the town's third White Way with Lighting of Tomorrow featured on Main Street.
Myrna Litterer daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Litterer was crowned Homecoming queen at halftime during the Greene Manly game. Attendants Joyce Landers Annette Green Jeanne Wildman and Jackie Marsh. Queen crowned by Belva Tindall. Prizes and corsages noted. Parade floats prize winners listed. Over 200 attended the Homecoming dance with Cal Meyers Orchestra.

Kay Kline daughter of Mr and Mrs W L Kline underwent an emergency appendectomy at Methodist Hospital in Rochester Minnesota last Monday.
Last weeks Bowling Results cover Wednesday night Rollers League action with Ackley Grinders Greene Motor Co. and McRoberts posting notable scores including a 200 game by W. Gabe. High series honors go to R. Henline F Nordmeyer and G Miller among others, plus multiple 200s and ventures in Monday and Ladies Leagues.
Greene residents can visit the U S Atomic Energy Commission’s Atoms for Peace exhibit opening October 22 with panels on radioactive materials in agriculture. The display covers tagged fertilizers, plant nutrition, insecticide efficiency, genetic testing, food preservation, and broader atomic energy uses from atoms to power plants.
Martin Luther Bragg born December 26, 1878 on Will Jacobs farm near Camp Comfort lived mainly in Greene. Died October 9 at home in Greene. Married Agnes Barnett November 26, 1905. celebrated golden anniversary in 1958. Survived by widow, nieces and nephews. Services at Hamilton Funeral Chapel Saturday 2 pm conducted by Rev. John J. Jones. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
James Gregory, conservation officer and State fish hatchery employee, dropped about 1000 walleyes in Shell Rock River Greene. Fish 8 to 10 inches split above and below the dam. The Commission will stock 1000 more at Shell Rock and Clarksville plus 5000 catfish 11 inches or larger at three locations next week. Gregory urges keeping only larger walleyes to aid future fishing. Conservation Club supports this.
Miss Martha E Lockwood born near Pleasant Grove April 12 1876 died in Des Moines October 12 1857. Survived by nephew Ralph Doore and niece Mrs Grace Hiatt both of Des Moines. Deceaseds include parents four sisters Mrs George Pringle Mrs Alice Doore Greene Mrs Carrie Barr and Miss Edith Lockwood Des Moines. Graveside services held yesterday at Pleasant Grove cemetery Powersville Rev G F Butler Greene officiating Williams Mortuary in charge.
In Hospital Homer Hardman he entered University Hospitals on September 19 and underwent major surgery on September 24. He remains a patient at Ward C-22 University Hospitals Towart.
The Boiler County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday evening October 23 at 800 o'clock in the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison. The Reland's Mews Chorus will provide the entertainment and Dan Murphy, director of the Information Department of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, will be the guest speaker.

Calvin Kelly reports that Mr and Mrs Clair Weiss bought the Mrs Robert Kammeyer home on Fifth Street, while Mr and Mrs Arthur E Shannon of Waterloo purchased the Merlin Hanawal t farm six miles east of Greene. The Weiss couple has moved in, and the Hanwalts take possession January 1 1958.
John G Butler 2 son of Mr and Mrs Garth Butler returned home October 12 after Navy service since December 1953. He trained at San Diego Norman OK Memphis and Cabanese Field Corpus Christi with Naval Airman and Training Devices schools. Draper Spratt son of Mr and Mrs Richard Spratt discharged after four years in the Navy, basic training at San Diego and electronics school at New London. He served aboard the submarine U S Quillback at Key West Florida.
Greene rushed for 248 yards while Don Menken Norman Pierce and Jim Brinkman powered the Ramblers to a 26-14 win over Manly Railroaders. Brinkman scored twice and Pierce added a rushing TD as Greer held a 14-0 lead at halftime before Manly’s Hynes connected on a 60 yard screen to close the gap. The Ramblers next visit St Ansgar for a Friday 8 PM clash after extending their unbeaten streak.

Mr and Mrs Donald Rohwed de of Cedar Falls welcomed a son born Sunday October 13 weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces named Timothy Charles. Mr Rohweduer formerly resided at Greene. Mr and Mrs Dale Rosenwinkle of Clarksdale welcomed a son born Friday October 11 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. Mrs Rosenwinkle is Kay Clark daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilson Clark.
