Twelve men from Butler County were inducted into the armed forces in October. Among those listed are Darwin L. Stock Greene Gary A. Galpin Robert J. Williams Wendell D. Becker Shreveport Louisiana and Francis I Janssen Iowa Falls a former Ackley resident Thirty men will report for pre induction physical examinations on October 26 at Fort Des Moines Eight men will be called into service November 14 and eleven men will report for pre induction physical examinations.
The Green Jaycees sponsor a sock hop at the high school gym this Saturday evening October 29 from 8 00 to 12 00. The 2 plus 2s will provide the music.
John L. Stock and Gordon Sneed completed Navy boat training at San Diego Naval Training Center. Elmer Stock attended the Friday graduation on October 7. The pair return home for 14 days before reporting to Bainbridge Maryland and Norfolk Virginia for further assignments and schooling.
Republican leaders schedule a Thursday rally day across Butler County with a caravan leaving Allison courthouse at 10:00 a.m. visiting Clarksville Greene Aredale Bristow Dumont Kesley Austinville Aplington Parkersburg New Hartford and Shell Rock ending at 5:45 p.m. The event features major candidates including Miller Gross Kuhl Grassley plus other county contenders. Residents urged to meet candidates and join the caravan at any town.
Butler County and area car and truck dealers will join a District Meeting and Workshop of the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association at the Holiday Inn in Mason City on Monday October 24. Vernon Kuhl of Parkersburg says dealers and office managers will meet in the morning to discuss the new Federal Wage and Hour Law with Alfred Wi Kahl and the Uniform Commercial Code with Edgar Manseil.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Meyer had their Meyerkin Guernsey herd analyzed for a third time last Saturday by W. A. Weeks of Clarendon Vermont leader of the Animal Analysis Association who provides analysis for many national herds.

Marilyn Walker was crowned homecoming queen at the Friday dance after the game. Rain canceled halftime activities. Attendants were Kathy Wihlm Jolene Mehmen Genie Glass and Connie Leavens. Junior class float Lick Em Up won first prize.
Girl Scout Cadet Troop 265 will collect for UNICEF next Monday October 24 after school. They meet at the youth center for instructions and each girl should bring her own container. The activity benefits communities locally and worldwide.
The Cub Scouts announce a regular Pack Meeting on Wednesday evening October 26 at the elementary school. A program and awards are planned. Boys eight by November 15 are invited to join. all scouts and parents urged to attend.
David Bone of Greene, a Wartburg College freshman, is one of 35 new members admitted to the Wartburg College Concert Band this fall under Dr. Robert E. Lee. A biology major, Bone plays the tuba and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Bone.

County Engineer Dave Everds and the Board of Supervisors led county newspaper editors on a tour of roads on Friday October 7 to explain the year long projects and how they fit future County work. Editors visited sites near Clarksville showing asphaltic concrete surfacing with earth shoulders and barrow pits used to supply fill at low cost while improving farmland. The tour also covered raising manholes in Clarksville and described soil top removal and hill leveling to build six foot road shoulders with a seeding mix to resist wash-out.
The Ramblers freshman and sophomore teams opened with a 41 to 13 win over Manly on Monday, October 10, with Greene scoring on a 1 yard sneak and a 12 yard pass to Rich Siemens among others. The junior high team beat Rudd 34 to 12, featuring Dick Stuntz returning kicks for 70 and 60 yards and Richard Schoenfeld scoring on a 25 yard run.

Guests included the infant’s grandparents Gene Reser and John Weiland both of Bristow and great grandparents Ralph Weiland of Bristow and Herbert Barnett of Greene.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Charles Litterer and Mrs. Litterer visit Chuckie and Billy in St. Paul Minnesota staying with Louis and family. Litterer has six years in the U S Navy, trained at San Diego and served at Memphis Jacksonville and Corpus Christi before assignment to the Twin Cities Naval Air Base.
Master Masons from a nine county area including Butler County will hold a Masonic Workshop in Northwood at the Masonic Temple on October 29 at 1:00 PM CST. Charles Jones and Harley Danner will officiate. papers on Masonic Principles and Lodge Work will be presented by district Master Masons. Explanations for DeMolay for Youth chapters will be heard plus the Grand Master of Masons in Iowa’s remarks.
Mrs Jeanette Gebhardt underwent major surgery at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Friday morning. She is the former Jeanette Lindell of Greene.
Dutch elm disease has killed over a million Iowa elms since 1957 and threatens all communities. Positive cases appear in Greene, Clarksville, New Hartford, Parkersburg, and Kesley. Control relies on sanitation, preventing root grafts, and beetle reduction via spraying or systemic treatment. A state advisory drive runs Oct 15 to Nov 15 to raise awareness and promote control measures.

Four hundred fifty students and parents attended the Butler Franklin County Career Night October 12 at the Allison Bristow High School. Students from ten high schools across two counties joined in the event with a gymnasium opening session led by Superintendent Dean Uhrenhopp. Dr. Ray J. Bryan of Iowa State University delivered the keynote You In Future, urging investigation and planning for the future. Students visited two occupations after the address, having pre enrolled in their local schools. this marked the fifth annual Career Conference with Butler County Extension Service and the Franklin County Schools participating for the second year.
The Boy Scouts meet at Drake's corner at 11:15 a.m. Saturday for a cook-out and outing. Each Scout should bring his own food. Fathers may accompany the group. Transportation will be furnished to the camp site.
