Donald D. Curtis born May 31 1896 in Greene died October 19 in Clemson South Carolina. He studied at Greene High School and the University of Iowa then taught there. He married Evelyn Gager of Hawkeye and later taught civil engineering at Clemson University until retirement five years ago. Survivors include wife Evelyn son Don four grandchildren and brother Vern Curtis of Eastsound Washington. Funeral services were held Friday at Clemson with burial there.
Mr and Mrs Dean H Brinkman of Osage welcomed a son born Sunday October 23 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital Osage The baby weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and is named Todd Alan He has a 16 month old brother Randal Dean Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Theodore Brinkman and Mr and Mrs W J Daub of Greene.
The Junior High Ramblers lost to Riceville 25 to 13 on Monday afternoon ending with 3 wins and 1 loss. Dick Stuntz and Richard Schoenfeld had touchdowns on a 60 yard run and a 6 yard run, with Jerry Shultz adding the extra point. In the evening the Freshman and Sophomore Ramblers were beaten 25 to 12 by Rockford. Greene scored both touchdowns on passes to Rich Semon from Jim Shultz, 30 yards and 17 yards, finishing their season at 5 wins and 1 loss.
A Social Security Administration representative from the Waterloo district office will visit Allison Court House on November 2, 16 and 30 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Earl T. Royal Hardman of Greene died Monday afternoon at his home aged 68. Born December 17, 1897 in Clarksville, he married Marian Merrick in Greene on October 26, 1928 and worked 35 years at Greene Produce. Surviving are his wife, two sons Edward of Peoria and John at home, three grandchildren, a sister LaVerne Blenkinsop of Vista, California, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Thursday October 27 at 2:00 pm at Reid's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Gjerde. burial Rose Hill Cemetery. casket to be closed during service. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Two hundred seventy attendees gathered October 18 for the Butler County Farm Bureau annual meeting. A barbeque supper, invocation by Rev. Rudolf Trusheim, and a business session followed. Elections named Paul Gerdes president, Darrell Needham vice president, Mrs. Charles Grassley secretary, Martin Holm treasurer, Lester Schrage voting delegate, and Mrs Neil Bolin women’s chairman. Entertainment by RAVE Contestants highlighted by live puppet song and comedy. Roger Fleming, American Farm Bureau Secretary, gave the keynote.
In hospital reports Mrs Urban Kelly is a patient at St Josephs Hospital in Waverly undergoing treatment in room 204. Roy Meehan is a patient in the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines after major surgery this morning in room 5-W.
An atomic energy program titled This Atomic World will be presented at Greene High School on Friday October 28 at 10:00 a.m. The 40 minute session targets students with the public invited. Charles Smith exhibits manager for Oak Ridge Associated Universities will discuss nuclear energy sources and its roles in agriculture industry and medicine. He trained at Oak Ridge Tennessee and Fort Valley State College Georgia.
Dr. B. V. Andersen and wife returned from an Eastern trip. He attended the Annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of General Practice in Boston October 10 through 13, with 31 guest speakers and 115 scientific plus 320 technical exhibits. More than 3,000 doctors joined the 18th convention. topics included adolescence, obstetrics, mental retardation, stroke, and infant orthopedics. The Academy requires 150 hours of post graduate study every three years. They then spent October 17 to 20 in Washington, D. C., for the Interstate Post Graduate Meeting.

Lydia Kivell aged 96 died at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Waverly after a week of illness. She was born October 7 1870 in Canada to George and Mary Werbarth Barth and married Albert Kivell October 5 1907 in Allison Iowa. Surviving are son Ivan Rivell daughter Daisy Mae Kivell and brother Dan Barth. Funeral services were held at Hauser Funeral Home Charles City with Rev Stephen Engelstad officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery.
William Martzahn 71 died Sunday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City after three weeks as a surgical patient. Born June 22 1895 near Greene son of Julius and Caroline Martzahn he married Anna Timens Oct 1 1933. later married Calista Shook Jan 2 1963. Kim Wunsch, six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Martyn Wunsch, suffered a diagonal fracture below the knee while playing on Wayne Ritter’s pontoon on Sunday October 16. She will remain home for three weeks as the leg heals and the injury is set.

About 250 people attended a Thursday Republican rally and dinner in Shell Rock with U S Senator Miller and Congressman H R Gross delivering speeches on Iowa and national issues. Mrs Jo Lahr led dinner, Hilda Hoogestraat decorated, Helen Vanderburg provided centerpieces, Rev Ron O Bryan offered the invocation, and music came from R H Mulder and Florence Sterling. Herman Faber served as master of ceremonies as candidates filled the all day caravan. organizers thank all who helped.

Northern Natural Gas Company mailed a check for 4413 to the Butler County Treasurer as the second half of 1965 Tawa property taxes due in 1966. The company has paid 8825 in 1965 property taxes to the county and its Iowa total property tax bill for 1965 was 3169781. Northern Natural serves as the wholesale natural gas supplier for about 342 Iowa communities.

Mrs Mabel Springer 81 died at her Greene home after a long illness. Born July 15 1885 in Greene she was daughter of James and Nancy Deardorf. Butler County faces a net loss of 55 300 in road use tax funds if the Iowa Legislature approves proposed changes to the distribution formula. Towns would gain 43 404, while county government shares drop 98 704. The League of Iowa Municipalities would raise cities share from 13 to 20 percent and reduce county funds for secondary and farm to market roads from 30 and 10 to lower levels. The fund derives from gas taxes vehicle fees sales tax and use tax on motor vehicles and trailers. Farm Bureau opposes further rural use tax cuts and warns higher rural property taxes would be needed to maintain present secondary road levels. Secondary roads are vital to agriculture and the county economy.

Prizes are 3, 2, and 1 dollars. brushes and containers needed. clean up by 6 PM Tuesday. A costume parade Monday at 8 PM starts at the tennis court and moves to park and Main Street. Three age groups award prizes. all participants receive treats.
