Greene Rambler cheerleaders won first place in dress appearance at the Iowa State University clinic in Ames on Saturday. They led their division of 85 schools and ranked among the state’s top five. Iowa State University extension safety specialist Norval Wardle urges farmers to take mid morning and mid afternoon coffee breaks while picking corn this fall. Fatigue caused half of last year’s corn harvest accidents with peak rates in late morning and late afternoon. A few minutes for coffee can prevent costly injuries.

The Butler County Farm Bureau invites members to an 7 00 p m on Tuesday October 18 at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison for a free barbeque beef dinner and a business meeting. Roger Fleming secretary treasurer of the American Farm Bureau Federation will be the featured speaker and the session will include election of officers and adoption of resolutions.
Marlys Ihde, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ihde of Plainfield, will compete for the Iowa Dairy Princess title at the state contest in Des Moines October 26 and 27. Thirteen contestants seek the crown currently held by Carol Flage of Waukon.
Floyd J. Bamker promotes a get out the vote crusade in Butler County Iowa with his political pickup mobile. He aims to familiarize voters with his views on issues affecting farmers and businessmen and favors candidate merit over party lines.
Public assistance expenditures in September Iowa totalled 5 130 393. Butler County paid 31 488 with 16 710 to Old Age Assistance recipients. Other payments included 3 835 for Medical Aid to the Aged 7 655 for Aid to Dependent Children 980 for Aid to Blind and 2 258 for the Disabled.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Shatzer announce their son Dale has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps. He serves as inspector instructor at the Marne Corps Reserve Training Center, currently stationed at an official Marine facility.

Mrs. Ollie Drake, 66, of Hampton was killed in a two car crash seven miles east and one mile north of Greene on Friday. Her husband Ray mond Drake, 70, and James Duffield, 36, of Greene were involved and treated for minor injuries at Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Drake were held Monday at the Green and Sietsema Funeral Home in Hampton. Survivors include her husband a son James of Mason City her mother Mrs. Mabel Colby of Hampton two sisters and three brothers.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Agnitsch of Cherokee are the parents of a son born Sunday September 25 at Sioux Valley Hospital Cherokee. The infant weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and is named Kevin John. The mother is Sharon Weiland daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Weiland of Bristow. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Agnitsch of Cherokee.
DeLone Wood of LeRoy Minnesota a former Greene resident underwent surgery one day last week at Methodist Wiorrell Hospital Rochester Minnesota. He was slated as a hospital patient for a week with room 403 as his address at the facility.

Colonel Glenn R Bowles Iowa state director of Selective Service announces the College Qualification Test prepared by Educational Testing Service will be given Friday November 18 and Saturday November 19 1966 at Iowa testing centers including Ames Burlington Cedar Falls Cedar Rapids Davenport Decorah Des Moines Dubuque Estherville Fort Dodge Iowa City Mason City and Sioux City. The three hour written exam requires only ordinary high school prep. Scores will guide local board decisions but do not alone defer. Eligibility requires registrant seeking college deferment and no prior test. Applications postmarked by October 21 1966 and can be obtained at Iowa colleges or local boards. Each applicant may mail one application. test may be taken only once.

Attendees included Mr and Mrs Ivan Clikeman and daughters Sally and Susan. Ronald Doty 33 and his three children Ronald Jr 8 Cindy 7 and Marlene 3 died in a car crash near Tofte Minnesota on Thursday night. Mrs Doty hospitalized in serious condition. Doty family linked to Cobblestone Lodge at Tofte. Survivors include parents two brothers and six sisters across several states.
North Central of Manly, buoyed by a Falcon kickoff return to start, saw the Ramblers surge with four second quarter points and an 81 yard finishing sprint to defeat Manly 40 to 7. Players Clark Allen, Craig Cheney, Jeff Dralle and Lynn Gabe starred on both sides as Ramblers gain big homecoming win while North Central’s defense was unable to contain the surge.
The Winnebago Council BSA will hold its annual Cub Scout Leaders Pow Wow at Hoover School Mason City Iowa on October 23 1966 from noon to 5 pm. Mrs W J Daub was discharged to return home from Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage following minor surgery. Local notice notes her illness duration and safe recovery, with family and friends extending well wishes.
Nile Myers, stationed in Viet Nam for several months, has a few days leave and travels to Japan. He visits his cousin CT2 Douglas Marsh, his wife, and their baby girl in Yokohama during the visit.
Second Lieutenant Mitchell E. Marsh, 22, son of Mr and Mrs Dale Marsh of Dougherty, completed a nine week signal officer course at the Army Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Georgia on September 30. He entered active duty in July and earned his commission through ROTC at Iowa State University. A 1962 Rockford High School graduate, he earned a B S degree from Iowa State in 1966.
The Boy Scouts meet Saturday at 8 30 a m at Drakes corner and bring a sack lunch or food to cook out. Scouts in confirmation class may join after class. Others are welcome. Led by Bob Fischer they will restore the old cemetery west of town and return home after lunch.
Iowa sportsmen will find raccoon, deer by bow and arrow, duck and coot seasons open October 15, with squirrel rabbit goose and snipe already underway. Deer bow and arrow splits run Oct 15–Nov 18 and Nov 26–Dec 16, 1966, with one deer bag limit.
