Younger Ramblers Win Three Contests

The junior high Ramblers beat host Rudd 48 to 6 on Tuesday afternoon October 10. Joe Shultz scored a TD while Dan Osier, Brian Trees and Terry Schoenfeld each added two touchdowns. The freshmen Ramblers won 12 to 6 over Marble Rock at Rockford Wednesday evening with Richard Schoenfeld and Larry Lester scoring. Greene’s Gary Johnson and Gary Debner led the 13 to 6 win by the freshmen and sophomores Monday night.

Area VIE School Invites Teachers to October Meeting

Area VII high school vocational instructors counselors and principals are invited to a Hawkeye Institute of Technology meeting at Hoover Jr High auditorium Waterloo on October 26. State Department of Public Instruction officials will discuss placement and follow up reports. Hawkeye Institute locations open 5 to 6 30 p m for visitors before a 6 45 p m start.

Mrs Stanley Senne Visits Husband in Hawaiian Isles

Mrs. Stanley Senne returned home Thursday night from Hawaii where she spent five days with her husband Sp. 6 Stanley Senne on rest and recreation from Viet Nam duties. They met at Waikiki on Oahu and toured the islands. He has served 64 months with the H and II Co 268th Combat Aviation Battalion at Tuy Hoa and will be stationed in Viet Nam for another 514 months.

Reed Family Welcomes Daughter Susanne Michele

New resident Mr and Mrs James Reed announce the birth of a daughter on Wednesday October 11 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly. The child weighed 6 pounds 1414 ounces and is named Susanne Michele. NIAD Tourism Committee Seeks Iowa Symbol Idea

The NIAD Tourism Committee met to discuss a state symbol tourists could take home. Corncob divinity and corn-pheasant cross were floated as options. Gordon Sawtelle urged ideas and appointments were made to lead place mats and revised brochure efforts with Thain Hogue and seven of NIAC's nine counties represented.

Kingery listed with First Marine Aircraft Wing in Viet Nam

Community College May Offer Evening Classes by Extension

North Iowa Area Community College may extend evening classes to Greene and other area communities if there is sufficient interest. Donald Ryerkerk, Director of Adult Education, seeks input on course types including vocational, business, homemaking, college credit, and high school completion. If a community shows demand, instructors and facilities can be arranged without waiting for a new semester.

Kyhl Gets Award For Reaching Goal In Heart Fund Drive

At the 14 county meeting of the North Central Division of Iowa Heart Association at Wilke's in Clear Lake on October 12, Senator Vernon Kuhl, Butler County Heart Fund Chairman, received an award for reaching the 1967 Heart Fund Drive goal. Butler County ranked among the state's top ten with 27 cents per capita, and the drive totaled 4,706.99, a county record. Dr. D. M. Everson of Shell Rock is president of the Butler County Heart Unit, succeeding Rev. Emmett Busch.

Yerkes Win Acapulco Vacation From Gibson Sales

Mr and Mrs Melvin Yerkes spent Tuesday to Friday last week in Acapulco Mexico. They won the trip through Gibson freezers and refrigerators sales. The Yerkes along with other Iowa dealers flew nonstop from Des Moines to Acapulco.

South Pacific to Be Presented at High School

The High School Music Department plans a November 20 and 21 performance of the Broadway musical South Pacific at 8:00 p.m. Based on Tales of the South Pacific, the show explores ethics and racial tolerance through Nellie Forbush and others set in World War II. Upcoming season also lists elementary and high school concerts through May with dates and events.

Pack Meeting Announced For Cub Scouts Halloween Party

The Cub Scouts will hold a pack meeting at the elementary school auditorium on Wednesday evening October 25 at 7 30. A Halloween party will be held and all parents and Cubs are urged to attend.

The Greene Commercial Club met to decide on erecting an 8 by 24 foot scotch-lighted sign advertising Greene beside the relocated Highway 14 at the north edge of Greene. They will hold a 50 cent noon luncheon monthly starting October 25 from 12 to 1 at the Community Center. They voted to help the Jaycees with the Halloween parade. next meeting is November 8.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday at 2:30 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery for Richard Alen Hayungs infant son of Mr and Mrs John Hayungs of Rudd. The child was born Sunday at 3:30 PM and died Monday at 3:29 AM at Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital. Survivors include the parents three brothers Darrell David and Johnny Ray two sisters Sharon and Karen and grandparents Mr and Mrs Archie Raymond of Greene.

Meeting on vocational courses at NIACC highlighted programs

North Iowa Area Community College hosted an invitational meeting on October 16 with NIACC faculty presenting on vocational offerings. Attendees from area high schools and guidance staff learned about programs in agricultural and light equipment, automotive technology, drafting, electronic technology, law enforcement, nursing, refrigeration, and secretarial training, focusing on curriculum content and admission prerequisites.
