Vernon Larsen Elected President of I S A C Friday

Vernon O Larsen Butler County Auditor was elected president of the Iowa State Association of Counties at the Counties twenty fourth Annual Conference held at the Hotel Fort Des Moines from October 5 to 7. He has served four years on the executive board and previously as president of the County Auditors Association of Town two years and as second and first vice president for one year each. This marks the first time a Butler County official has held the post. The I S A C Annual Conference is the largest event of its kind in Des Moines.

The Quarterback Club will meet Tuesday evening October 17 at 8:00 in the high school cafeteria. A film will be shown.

Rambler Reserves Lose to Aplington 30 7

The Rambler reserves were defeated by Aplington varsity 30 to 7 on Saturday evening. Aplington scored two touchdowns in the first and third quarters and one in the second, failing on extra points. Greene scored Rambler’s lone touchdown on a late pass from Gary Johnson to Jim Merfeld, with another Johnson to Merfeld pass good for the extra point. Rambler and Aplington each had 8 and 7 first downs respectively.

Master Masons of North Central Iowa plan a Masonic Workshop at the Masonic Temple in Mason City on October 21. The Iowa State Tax Commission released the report for the quarter ending June 30 1967 showing taxes paid on retailers for the quarter ending March 31 1967 Allison led county towns with 23803 77 Greene was second with 17814 37 Other towns followed Parkersburg 14894 76 Clarksville 11615 80 Aplington 6594 56 Shell Rock 5803 29 Dumont 5686 92 New Hartford 3422 70 rural 2407 97 under 500 population 1693 20 and non permit 93 69 A total of 305 77 was sent in for consumer use tax from Butler County and 14009 23 was used for motor vehicles and trailers bought in the county.

Story Hour Starts Saturday at Greene Public Library

The first story hour of the year will be held at Greene Public Library on Saturday October 14. Mrs. Robert Fischer reports that children four years old and over should arrive at 1 15. The program will conclude about 2 00. Children are requested to use the side entrance.

Break-ins Hit Allison School and Farmers Grain

Vandals broke into the Allison High School building through a rear window and pried open three offices causing ransacking. About 340 dollars from a cash box and 10 from a pop machine were taken. At Farmers Feed and Grain, operator Lester Van Raden reported a broken door, a tipped safe, and 70 dollars plus 10 dollars from a pop machine stolen. Similar Wednesday night break-ins were reported at the Nashua school.

The Round Grove Golf and Country Club held its annual meeting on Tuesday evening October 3. George Sam Sneed was elected president, Harry Green as vice president, and Mrs Elmer Stock as secretary treasurer. Wilma Gallaghar Dies in Washington at 80

Mrs. Wilma Flora Gallaghar died October 31 in Rockford Washington. Born September 1 1900 in Greene she was the daughter of Harvey and Flora. She married William Gallaghar in 1917 at Turtle River Minnesota. Survivors include son seven grandchildren sister Esther Barnett of Greene and brothers Earl Flora Cass Lake and Paul Flora Charles City. Husband and a daughter preceded her in death. Burial was in Colville Washington October 6.

Younger Ramblers Rally To Three Wins In Week

Greene junior high football swept three wins with the Ramblers defeating Nora Springs 21 to 6 on Tuesday. Shultz, Trees and Schoenfeld scored with Osier adding the extra points. Freshmen beat Rudd 12 to 6 and freshmen-sophomores beat Nora Springs 13 to 7. Upcoming games include Marble Rock at Rockford 4:00, Manly at home Monday 7:00, and Nashua away Tuesday at 4:00.

Six Candidates File For Council Seats and Mayor

Six persons filed nomination papers for city council and two filed for mayor for the November 7 election by the filing deadline last evening. Incumbent W. J. Ramker and Myron Eikenberry filed for mayor, while incumbents Douglas Walker Clarence Teeple and David Markle sought council seats. Also filing were Gordon Anderson Kenneth Henline and Marvin Nelson. Five councilmen and a mayor will be elected on Tuesday November 7.

Ritter Completes Aviation Fire Control Technician Training

Aviation Fire Control Technician Airman David C. Ritter, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace W. Ritter of Greene, completed the Aviation Fire Control Technician School at the Naval Training Center Memphis. He studied safety, reports, and basic aviation gunfire control theory after a prior two week Aviation Familiarization and a 19 week Electronics Fundamentals course.

Orval Kingerys Attends Brother's Funeral in Wyoming

Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery returned home Wednesday after attending funeral services for Clarence E Hunter in Basin Wyoming on Monday afternoon. Burial with Masonic rites followed in Rawlins Wyoming Tuesday afternoon. Hunter born May 23 1661 at Encampment Wyoming to Edward and Delphine Hunter died September 28 in Casper Wyoming after a long illness. Survivors include his wife Nellie two daughters one son five brothers two sisters and eight grandchildren.
