A dinner at Round Grove Golf and Country Club celebrated the switch to dial phones. Attendees included Mayor Vivian Kingery, city officials, Commercial Club president James Dralle, Northwestern Bell officers, and Newton main office representatives. At 9:00 pm the group viewed the new office, and Mayor Kingery placed the first long distance call to his son in Houston Texas.

Chairmen named to run the Mantoux tuberculin testing program in Butler County Schools starting November 5. Burton Sprole of Allison leads the effort with Mrs. Harold Ripley of Clarksville as general chair, and others coordinating health education, public information, nurses, and records. Russell Stewart Suffers Arm Break in Home Accident

Russell Stewart, 10, broke his left arm Friday around 6 p.m. while pole vaulting at his parents home. He was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for x rays showing an elbow fracture. his arm was placed in a cast and he returned home.

Mrs. Carl Taylor aged 76 died Thursday at a Independence hospital after months as a patient. Hattie Ella Hartley born January 13 1886 in Pekin Illinois taught twelve years in Galesburg after Knox College. married Carl Taylor June 26 1928 at Pekin and moved to Greene. Funeral Monday October 15 at 2 PM Williams Mortuary with Rev. George Knutson officiating. burial followed.

Punt Pass and Kick Contest at Greene Motors Sunday

Klassi Motors Greene registers boys seven through 11 for a Ford national Punt Pass and Kick contest in cooperation with the NFL. Hemke Meyer 91 of Parkersburg died Sunday evening October 7 at a rest home in New Hartford. Survived by two sons three daughters including Mrs Henry Schmidt. Goose season opener and hunting outlook report

Geese appeared in Towa to open the goose hunting season on October 6 with peak migration expected October 15 to 20. Duck population is forming well with a good crop by the duck season opening October 27. Squirrel hunting is hampered by mild weather and mosquitoes but will improve as leaves fall. Rabbits are plentiful in Iowa, particularly in the south, with mortality expected from snowfall cutting the population in half.
