The Greene conservation park drew notice as Mrs. Emil Ruzicka spotted three deer including two does and a buck frolicking there on Tuesday morning. A nearby incident about a car wash visit appeared as a brief aside with humorous, unclear symbolism.
Autumn in Northeast Iowa brings prime trout and smallmouth angling as streams are stocked and crowds ease. Ken Madden, fisheries chief, notes peak colors, reduced pressure, and opportunities on Upper Iowa, Volga, Turkey, Yellow, Maquoketa and Wapsipinicon rivers, plus the Mississippi and northwest lakes with perch runs and diverse fish. Fall fishing pairs with hunting and football, offering scenic, rewarding river and pond experiences.
Delegates and visitors from across the country will converge in Seattle Washington October 19 to 22 for the 38th Girl Scouts of the U S A convention. The theme Awareness Action will guide sessions at Seattle Center with opening ceremonies featuring flags from World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. Special guest Debbie Reynolds will join as National Piper as 18 adults and two Senior Scouts from North Iowa attend, including Greene residents Mrs Martin Senne and Mrs Vernon Rottler. They will travel to Minneapolis to fly to Seattle.
Charles City marks its centennial since incorporation with a four day celebration October 15 to 18. Citizens revived plans after the recent tornado and organized events include parades, a beard contest, silent films, a carnival, horse show, dances, exhibits, and a final beard grower competition judged by Lt. Governor Roger Jepsen who will present the trophy.

Milton Peterson, a patient at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea Minnesota, has been moved out of the intensive care unit indicating improved condition.
Captain Roger L. Nixt, son of Mrs. Henry Nixt, has returned to the United States after a one year tour in Vietnam where he served at the U S Army Headquarters in Long Binh. He is now assigned to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate Headquarters Fifth U S Army at Fort Sheridan Illinois.
In Vietnam Army Private First Class Robert J Schreckengost age 21 is assigned as a flight operations specialist with the 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile in Vietnam on September 17. His parents Mr and Mrs Orin D Schreckengost and wife Kathleen live in Dougherty.
Linda Loomer was crowned homecoming queen at halftime of the Ramblers vs Manly Falcons game. Attendants Connie Wihlm Val Starkweather Melinda Dralle and Nancy Kingery are named. Senior float Ramblers pour it on won first prize, Junior float Rams won’t wear out as the game wears on took second, Sophomore float Rams have power to spare won third. Mrs Minnie Harrenstein 91 died Monday at Mathers Nursing Home. Born June 2 1878 in Freeport Illinois she married Omke Harrenstein in Wellsburg. The Cedar Valley Mental Health Society announces a October Membership Drive across Bremer Butler Chickasaw and Fayette Counties. The center in Waverly provides low cost psychiatric care through county contracts funding about 60 percent of operations. The event is the ninth session in a statewide October series.

Pvt. Thomas W. Johnson, son of Mrs. Wm. Johnson, received a Medal a red and white bar and an overnight pass for high score in Record Range tests and good conduct at Fort Polk Louisiana. He completed basic training October 10 at Fort Polk and is now stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma.
