Gerald Eimers and spouse welcomed a son Jeffrey Tom born September 28 at Cedar Valley hospital Charles City weighing 8 pounds 11 ounces. Martyn Wunsch and wife welcomed a daughter born Monday afternoon October 10 at Cedar Valley hospital Charles City weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce.
Greene High observes Homecoming Friday October 14 as St Ansgar Saints visit Ramblers for an 8 p m kickoff. Queen candidates were chosen Monday Carol Crosby Sandra Eckhoff Donna Hudson Donna Reed and Mary Lou Squires with final voting Thursday.
The Butler County Council of Republican Women hosts a candidates tea and open meeting at the Country Club Thursday from 2 to 5 pm. Expected to attend are GOP candidates for county state and district offices including Jack Miller for U. S. senator William Mooty for lieutenant governor Evan L. Hulsman for attorney general H R Gross for third district congressman J Kendall Lynes for state senator and Charles Grassley for state representative. All Republican voters and friends are invited. a fur style show will be held in the afternoon.
Greene Fire Department was called to the home of Mr and Mrs William Worley and son at 12:30 pm Friday to extinguish a fire of unknown origin. Neighbors reported smoke from the roof and alarm was turned in by Lyle Mathers. Most furniture was removed, damage to the house owned by Archie Raymond totaled several hundred dollars, with loss covered by insurance.
Roger Dean Vekre, 25, of Winterton pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated fourth offense in district court on Tuesday October 4. Judge Butler ordered three years in the Men’s Reformatory at Anamosa. Vekre was arrested near Parkersburg by the Highway Patrol on September 24, 1960, and taken to Anamosa by Deputy Marvin Barth.
Graveside services for Fred Floerchinger 79 were held Tuesday in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. He died in a Hampton nursing home on Saturday October 8. Survivors include sisters Mrs C C Fitz of Hampton and Mrs George Weiss of Greene. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in the Catholic Church in Hampton.
Heavy rains have left Iowa prairie sloughs in excellent shape for waterfowl. Blue-winged teal, coot and shovelers dominate, with mallards and pintails rising as frosts arrive. Redheads and canvasbacks cluster on High and West Swan Lake. hunters warned to avoid them. Daily bag limits: one wood duck and one hooded merganser. Goose flocks reported statewide. season expected to be strong. Duck season opens at noon on Saturday October 15.
Paul Howard Sidles of Ames was fined five dollars and four dollars in costs for a stop sign violation in Greene. The case was heard by Mayor Kelly's court.
The Parent Teachers Association met in the high school auditorium on Wednesday evening with a reception for teachers. Mr V J Tatum introduced the faculty and Rev Butler welcomed attendees. Community singing was led by Mrs Carl Worley of Aredale and the Mixer was organized by Mrs Paul Hamilton and Mrs Dale Willey. Recipients honored for ten years or more included Mrs Florence Schmitt Mrs Ina Nichols Vern Gard Mrs Helene Bolier Gerald Stephenson Robert Tornowske and Norman Wolters.
The State Conservation Commission placed 300 Northerns from McGregor into the river above the dam Thursday. The 10 to 15 inch fish are part of a long term effort to reduce rough fish in Iowa rivers and boost game fish. Fishermen are urged not to keep the small Northerns to aid their growth toward native status.

Mrs. J. T. Truitt was notified of the death of her half brother Billy Philpott 18 who drowned near Spooner Wisconsin Friday evening while duck hunting with a companion they were separated. Survivors include his mother and four sisters.
The BUUer V County Chapter of the American Red Cross met in City Hall Allison for the regular quarterly meeting. Dennis Brauer of Iowa Falls was awarded a life saving certificate for rescuing his grandfather at Reed’s Lake on June 3 1960. Clifford Burroughs presented the citation.
The Junior High Ramblers beat Riceville 8 to 0 on Wednesday afternoon. Francis Menken scored from seven yards for a 6 point lead and Tom Teeple's safety added two. A 95 yard hold had a touchdown nullified by penalty. Next, Marble Rock visits and seventh and eighth graders play from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. before Friday night’s game.
Five local F F A members led by president David Roitmk plus secretary Roger Wells reporter Harlan Moartz ahn treasurer Charles Steere and sent imal Dean Drake, with instructor Michard Wasoner, left Greene by chartered bus Tuesday at 7:00 pm for the National FFA Convention in Kansas City.

Voters in the Rudd-Rockford- Marble Rock Community School District rejected a 750000 bond for a new high school. The bid met 58 percent support, below the 60 percent required. August turnout favored 52 percent. Officials plan another vote soon.
