Junior High Football Wins Two Contests in September

The seventh and eighth grade team won their first two games. At Rockford on September 28 they beat Rudd 21 to 0, with Jim Worley scoring the opening TD and Gary Johnson adding a 35 yard TD after a Rudd pass. A Woodley reception set up another score. In Greene against Marble Rock the team trailed 12-0 at halftime but came back to win 13-12 on strong defense and key plays by Worley and Johnson. The next game is October 12 at Greene against Riceville.

Diverted Acres Grazing Allowed by ASCS in Allison

The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Allison announced that effective October 1 farmers may graze livestock on diverted acres but hay may not be taken from these acres. Designated diverted acres may also be plowed at any time.

Greene Jaycees Charter Banquet honors new president

About 175 Jaycee members and guests gathered in Greene for Charter Night. Larry Voigts served as master of ceremonies and Rev. Wayne Gjerde offered the invocation and benediction. Dr. R. H. Donn Schafer of Greene is one of 48 candidates on the State College of Iowa freshman football team. The squad opens a four game schedule Thursday October 7 at Mankato State Minnesota with Schafer bidding for a starting guard position. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Ivan Schafer.

Fleming to Speak at Butler County Farm Bureau Meeting

Roger Fleming, secretary treasurer of the American Farm Bureau Federation, will be the featured speaker at the Butler County Farm Bureau annual meeting on October 21 at 7:00 p.m. A free ham supper will follow at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison. Fleming, a Tama County cattleman and Iowa State College graduate, has held Iowa Farm Bureau posts and led the Washington office since May 15, 1948.

Iowa Republicans unveil two first time projects for October. A statewide Buck Night fund drive targets every county on October 21 to boost party organization and campaign funds. Swine Production Meetings Scheduled at Allison

Two evening meetings on swine production will be held at Allison this month per Kay Connelly County Extension Director. Dr M D Whitaker and Dr Emmett Stevermer from Iowa State University will discuss nutrition breeding and management October 14 and 28 at 7 30 p m at the County Extension Office. Post Office Inaugurates New Parcel Post Program

Postmaster Robert L. Curtis announces Iowa wide Scheduled Service for parcel post. The system covers 356000 square miles with 1096 offices and 1 096 post offices offering one and two day delivery. Assistant Postmaster General Tyler Abel says the program delivers first rate service for fourth class mail and hinges on precise timing of bulk mail transfers at major cities. In Greene the service will start with 4 00 pm pickups and next day delivery for nearby offices, with a two day option for distant locations five days a week.
