Walter Kyle of Greene is appointed to The American Legion National Transportation Committee by National Commander William R. Burke and approved by the National Executive Committee. The Iowa Department and Des Moines area context are noted in the announcement.
Lawrence Woods 35 of Alden Iowa pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated first offense in District Court. Judge Beardmore fined 300 dollars plus 14.50 costs for the November 18 incident near Dumont. Paul Ray Bell 28 of Fort Dodge pleaded guilty in District Court for OMVI first offense. Bond set at 500 dollars. judge fined 300 dollars plus 13.50 costs. Bell released after payment.
There will be no Story Hour at Greene Public Library during December because of Christmas season activities. Story Hour resumes Saturday January 7 at 1 15 p.m.
Christmas seal receipts from Greene total $184.85 contributed by 128 families. If you have not received your Christmas seal envelope contact chairman Mrs. Carrison Bone. Funds support local and state tuberculin testing research follow up care chest X rays and related TB projects.
The 1960 duck season in Iowa ends at sunset Saturday December 3rd. Biologists monitor movements from Saskatchewan and Manitoba with reports of steady Mississippi and Missouri River flights feeding Iowa’s waterfowl. Shooting has been fair to good in parts, better than pre season forecasts. The goose season ends December 16 1960, a day before the shotgun deer season opens.
The Cub Scout pack meeting set for November 30 is reset for December 14. Gifts will be exchanged and all earned awards presented. 8 or 9 year olds interested in basketball report Saturday morning at 9. 10 year olds and 11 year old Boy Scouts not in 7th grade report at 10.
Mrs George Kielman, formerly a Cedar Valley Hospital patient in Charles City after hip fracture surgery, was moved to the home of her son and daughter-in-law Mr and Mrs Otto Kielman and family on Monday to recuperate from the operation.
Thieves entered the Launderama in Parkersburg Sunday evening and broke the padlock on a twenty five cent change machine. They carried out the machine containing $25 in change. The machine valued at $125. Sheriff's office in Allison is investigating.
Mr and Mrs Harold Kingery entertained their relatives at a Thanksgiving dinner. Attending were Mr and Mrs Ronald Lauber Rae Jean of Waterloo Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken and family of Clarksville Mr and Mrs Donovan Ruffridge and family and Frank Freeman.
Mouney Langiitz age 19 Dennis Oltmann age 20 and Kent Kussatz age 19 all of Allison were arrested Sunday near Allison by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth on a charge of shooting rabbits after shooting hours. They appeared in J P Court in Alison and pleaded guilty. Each was fined 25 dollars plus 5 dollars costs.
The Greene Community School Parent-Teacher Association will meet next Wednesday evening December 7 at 8:00 in the high school auditorium. The program by the faculty revisits beginnings through a reading experience aimed at parents of kindergartner and younger elementary children. Refreshment chairmen are Mr and Mrs Paul Cheney and Mr and Mrs Dale Crosby.
Max Lindley of Clarksville, 32, arrested by Highway Patrol Friday night for driving with a suspended license. Appeared in Allison Justice of Peace court, $300 bond posted, released. Pleaded guilty Monday in District Court. Judge Beardmore imposed a $100.60 fine plus $14.50 cost.
Greene youngsters will enjoy free movies at Greene High School auditorium on Saturdays December 10 and 17 and Friday December 23 at 2 30 pm. Santa will visit Greene on those dates at 3 45 pm with treats for all children. The Greene Merchants’ pre Holiday activities thank local patrons for their past year support.
Donald Richard Allen, 30, of Greenville Ohio, pled guilty in District Court to embezzlement of mortgaged property. Judge Beardmore gave a five year sentence to the Men's Penitentiary at Fort Madison. Arrested in Kansas City on July 4 1960, he was transported to Fort Madison Saturday by Butler County Sheriff Pete Boomgarden.
December calendar at the Community Center lists Youth Center events on December 2 10 and 17 in the evening at the Youth Center. Girl Scouts meet December 5 12 and 26 at 7 30 p.m. Woman's Club gathers December 6 from 1 60 to 5 00 p.m. Girl Scouts also meet December 7 and 21 from 4 to 5 30 p.m. Cancer Society holds morning meetings December 8. Brown ies Tram events December 13 20 and 27 from 4 09 to 4 00 p.m. December 14 includes Girl Scouts 4 to 4 30 and 7 30 to 9 30 p.m. Willing Workers H Club meets December 19.
Mayor Kelly presided over a session listing Conrad C. Lancelle of Apling ton for illegal parking in front of the fire station with a $10.00 fine and $4.00 costs. Leonard F. Hauser of Clarks ville cited for a stop sign violation with a $5.00 fine and $4.00 costs. James William Bollstad of Boone penalized for exceeding the speed limit with a $10.60 fine and $4.00 costs.
L A Howard division supervisor of Railway Express Agency announced that the local express office will be discontinued effective December 1. Starting Thursday rural residents will receive notices when their freight is at Charles City and the express truck leaves Charles City for Greene each weekday around 1:00 p m. Residents should call Charles City for express and ask for Enterprise 2641.
The Public Library adds four biographies by Coslain Wal lace Chapman and Rowan detailing Alexander Graham Bell Knute Rockne Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Robinson. The volumes cover Bell's patent battles Rockne’s Notre Dame era Chaplin Jr’s portrait of his father and Rob inson’s challenges amid prejudice.
Conservation officer James T. Gregory received notice that the mink and muskrat hunting and trapping season will open at noon on December 1, shifting from midnight. The season closes at midnight on December 31 as previously announced.
In Hospital Jacob Tack was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Tuesday morning for treatment.
Greene merchants launch holiday promotion giving away 120 live turkeys across three Saturdays December 3 10 and 17 at 8 pm with register in participating stores no purchase required. First State Bank names Mrs W K Bramwell Sr as chairman replacing late husband and Greene Commercial Club will host free Greene Bucks movies and a Santa visit for kids alongside the turkey drawings.
The adult farmer class met Monday evening with Mr. John J. Schneiderman sharing experiences in raising SPF pigs. A follow up meeting is planned for December 5 at 8 00 p m to discuss Farmers View of Civil Defense with coffee and cake served at close.

Thanksgiving week end guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Green and family were Mrs. C. T. Stager of Waterloo and Mr. John Mok, an exchange student from Korea. He is in Milwaukee taking graduate work in engineering at Marquette University and is associated with Nordberg Manufacturing Co. as a design engineer.

Friday Town and Country results show Sperry Insurance defeating Jewell Feed and Seed 34 to 18 with top pins by Helen Lester 168 and Leona McCready 173. Monday Big Six standings include Wayne Feldman 611 and Donovan Ruffridge 511 while several players posted 500s. Tuesday lanes feature Harriette Opperman 169 high, and a new single game record of 862 by Murphy Transportation. Senior ladies Evelyn Behnke and Marion Belknap led with 468 and 467 series respectively.
The Iowa State Highway Commission will hear further statements from opponents before deciding on relocating 54 miles of highway 30 between Marshalltown and Osden. At the request of the Economic Protection League, a Dec 13 hearing date will review a Chicago Real Estate Research Board report on highway effects on business.
New residents Mr and Mrs Dale Cassmann welcomed a son Bruce Eugene born November 23 at City Hospital weighing 9 pounds 31 ounces. Mrs Cassmann and Bruce returned home Saturday. Daniel Brownell and wife of Clear Lake welcomed a son November 23 at Cedar Valley Hospital, weight 6 pounds 15 ounces. Kenneth Miller and wife of Clarksville welcomed a son November 24 at Cedar Valley Hospital, weight 10 pounds 12 ounces named Steven Leslie. Lester McRoberts and wife of Rockford welcomed a son November 27 at Cedar Valley Hospital, weight 7 pounds 1 ounce named Gary Lee. Gerald Krukow and wife of Sheffield welcomed a daughter November 24 at Cedar Valley Hospital, weight 9 pounds 14 ounces, name pending. Duane Chase and wife of Town City welcomed a son November 15, weight unknown, named John Steven.
Opponents to relocating Highway 306 urge the commission to show how much business by-passed towns will lose if the new road is built. The regular meeting is scheduled for the next day, with continued discussion on page 6.
