About 10,000 delegates and visitors gathered for the thirty-fifth national Girl Scout Convention at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis last week. Mrs. V Rottler joined seven delegates from the North Town Girl Scout Council. National president Mrs. Charles A Culmer of Libertyville, Illinois delivered the keynote. The second session featured United States UN ECS representative Mrs. Althea Hottell and Thomas K Thompson of the National Council of the Churches of Christ. All readers were honored as the backbone of Girl Scouting and received yellow ribbons identifying leaders.
Mr and Mrs David Graven of Albert Len Minnesota welcome a daughter born Sunday November 13. The baby has been named Kathryn Jane.
Annette Green daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Green was a dinner guest of Vice President Richard M Nixon during his Nassau Bahamas vacation. Also present were Miss Betty McVay a former Nixon aide now teaching in Nassau, Attorney General William P Rogers a secret service agent and G C Reboyo of Miami.
The 1960 Sample Survey of Agriculture will be conducted in Butler County over the coming weeks by the Census Bureau U S Department of Commerce. It will collect data on farm ownership size crops livestock and equipment income and building construction to supplement the 1959 census and produce national estimates. Local interviews will be conducted by Mrs Lillian Jorgensen.

October U S savings bonds sales in Butler County total $55,876 bringing ten month county total to $848,569, achieving 75 percent of the $1,130,841 goal. Iowa statewide ten month sales reach $116,465,976 about 76 percent of the 1960 target, national average 79 percent.
Justice records show Fines imposed on J P Knight court dean night speeding with a 15 dollar fine and 5 dollar costs. Marvin Sogard of Charles City was fined for exceeding the speed limit with 25 dollar bond posted and forfeited.
A new book Canada, Americas Closest Ally by Bartlett Brebner sits on local shelves, tracing Canadian history from Northwest Passage to St. Lawrence Seaway and frontier life. Also featured Great Cities of the World with 900 photographs and maps, plus That Certain Something by Arlene Francis offering charm tips.
Charles Davis son of Mr and Mrs Darrell Davis of Greene pledged to Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity at Drake University in Des Moines. Davis a senior majors in general business in the Drake college of business administration.
Officials of the Greene Commercial Club announced free shows for Saturday matinees in December. Santa Claus visits followed by candy for children, with shows at the high school auditorium at 2 30 p m on December 10 17 and 24. Greene Bucks drawings run each Saturday through December 24.
The Greene Commercial Club will honor Henry Dralle at a supper in St. Peter's Lutheran Church parlors on Wednesday evening November 30 at 6 30 p m. Dralle has completed 50 years in Greene business. Tickets are sold by Harold Allison Inter State Power Greene Cafe Mead Drug and regionally by Harry Downs east side and A F Lindell west side. Attendees should buy tickets by Saturday November 26. Women and men invited.
Joseph Murray aged 78 fractured his left hip after a fall at the home of his son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Vernon Weinberg last Wednesday morning. He was rushed to Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City where surgeons pinned the fracture Thursday.
The famed Black Hills Passion Play will be staged in Mason City at Roosevelt Field House on Sunday and Monday, December 4 and 5, hosted by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mail orders are welcome from Passion Play Headquarters at Klipta Stoyles. The Sunday matinee opens at 2 30 pm December 4. Star Josef Meier portrays Christus with a large professional cast in 22 scenes depicting Jesus last days.
Andrew J. Bob Feyereisen born March 19 1896 in Greene died November 16 in Marshfield Wisconsin after a long illness. He worked as an accountant for Connor Land and Lumber and Northern Auto and Supply. Survived by wife two sisters and several relatives funeral services were held Sacred Heart Church Marshfield and burial at St Marys Greene.
The first Adult Farmer Class met Monday evening in the Greene Community High School Vocational Agricultural Room. Richard Wagoner led the session with guest speaker H E Cook from Des Moines Farmers Service Department discussing Cooperative Hog Marketing. An oyster stew followed, and the group planned future topics and dates through February.
Mr and Mrs A F Lindell Sr left this morning for Sterling Illinois to spend Thanksgiving with Mrs Lindells daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs E t Anderson.
Greene Ramblers open basketball season with a 50 37 win over Tripoli while Ramblerettes lose 46 43. Saundra Curtis leads the losers with 32 points. Green tops the Ramblers with 16. Greene Bucks prize draws announced with names including John Meek Marie Van Horn and others. Marvin Chapman drafted into the US Army. stationed at Fort Jackson. Greene County plans Greene Bucks drawings on November 26 and December dates.
Mrs. Bird Langenhagen 82 died Tuesday at her daughter’s home after a stroke and a fall in Des Moines. Born May 4 1878 in Pontiac Michigan, she lived in Clinton Iowa and Davenport before Greene. Surviving: son D Wayne Langenhagen and daughter Merle Noble plus grandson Billy Walker. Funeral Friday at Hamilton’s with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Neighbors gathered at James Stunta farm last Thursday and harvested 100 acres of corn using 2 pickers 22 weeens and 2 tractors funded by Lale Maxson. List of men and women who helped and provided dinner and food is given with names.
Butler County 4 H youths depart Thursday night November 24 for a Chicago trip. Planned visits include Republic Steel Corp Cracker Jack Co Board of Trade Shedd Aquarium Maxwell Street Chinatown University of Chicago Hull House and the 1960 International Livestock Exposition. Travel by train from Greene returns Tuesday morning November 29 with youth leaders Grace Benjegerdes and others accompanying.

Lawrence Woods aged 18 or so, known as Lawrence Junior Woods, was arrested Friday night by the Highwa s Patrol Sona on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated first offense. He was arrested north of Dumont after the pickup left the road and went into a ditch. He appeared Saturday morning in Justice of Peace Court in Allison with bond set at 500 dollars for the next term. Bond was posted and Woods was released from the county jail in Allison.
