Clarence D. Kretzschmar of Greene Post Office earned the 25 year Safe Driver Award for exceptional safe driving. The honor was signed by Howard Pyle, president of the National Safety Council, and presented by Robert Curtis, the local postmaster.
Mr and Mrs James Deike of Nora Springs announce the birth of a son on Monday November 27 at Mercy Hospital Mason City. The baby weighs 6 pounds 9 ounces and is named John Ellis. Mrs Deike, formerly Mildred Ellis, is daughter of Mrs George Menken of Greene.
Roger L Nixt son of Mrs Henry Nixt was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the U S Army Judge Advocate General Corps by Major General Michael Paullick at Fort Campbell Kentucky on November 17 He was immediately promoted to Captain after a week at home he reported to Brooke Army Medical Center Fort Sam Houston San Antonio Texas to instruct army doctors and nurses in military justice
North Java Area Community College plans three new courses for the second semester per director C. H. Beem. Two are first time offerings, while World Geography returns after a suspension due to missing staff. A genetics course aims at sophomore biology and medicine majors, and a freshman Orientation to Engineering will introduce engineering fields to over 60 engineering majors.
Marine Lance Corporal James L. Kingery, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell L. Kingery of Greene, was promoted while with Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 12, First Marine Aircraft Wing in the Republic of Vietnam. Promotion cited time in service, rank, appearance, and knowledge of military subjects. Kingery’s squadron maintains aircraft for Marine Air Group 12 and oversees supply lines to keep units combat ready.
John T. Stauffer 74 died Saturday evening November 25 at his home after a years long illness. He was born September 29 1893 in Kansas and lived most of his life in Greene. He married Gesina Menken December 1 1915 in Greene. Survived by wife two sons Lyle Greene and Dale Charles City seven grandchildren one great grandchild and five sisters. Funeral November 28 at the Methodist Church with Rev Wayne Gjerde. burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
A Social Security Administration representative from the Waterloo district office will visit Allison at the Court House on December 6, 13, and 27 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. People may also contact the Waterloo district office in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at 234 1554.
Mr and Mrs Donald Zimmerman of Columbus Nebraska are parents to a son born November 24 weighing 9 pounds named Jeffrey Donald. Mrs Zimmerman is the former Marguerite Bloom who taught in Greene Community School.
The Presbyterian church marks the first Advent Sunday with a 10:15 a m service and a memorial dedication. The Fischer family presents purple Bible markers a pulpit hanging and a communion table runner in memory of Mrs. Cliff Fischer a longtime church member. The hanging shows the Lamb of God to signify Christ as savior and coming king. A dedication prayer will follow led by the pastor.
Russell J. Perry of Aplington, volunteer county savings bonds chairman, reported October sales of Series E and H bonds and Freedom Shares in Iowa exceeded September by over 700000. October total 7440212, ten month state total 83767405 for 69 percent of 1967 goal. Butler County ten month total 464444 for 59 percent of its 1967 quota.
The Minnesota Twins banquet sponsored by the Greene Jaycees will be held on Thursday evening November 30 at the Greene Elementary School auditorium. Members of St. Mary's Guild will serve a family style turkey dinner starting at 7 15.

Harry Downs of Greene received a 50 year Masonic membership certificate at a Tuesday dinner. The event, hosted by Methodist Ladies and Eastern Star, featured L. S. Wentworth as master of ceremonies and Fred Sorenson presenting the lapel badge and certificate. Downs’ Masonic service spans multiple posts including four terms as Master and roles as secretary and treasurer, plus leadership in a regional Blue Lodge Circle and Grand Lodge committees. About 45 visitors from 14 Iowa lodges and 1 Minnesota lodge attended, with ten past Grand Lodge officers present.
Elementary students of the Greene Community School will present an instrumental and vocal music concert on Wednesday evening December 6 at the high school auditorium starting at 7 45. All students will participate. Directors are Harold Blosser and Ray Holtz.

Mrs. Alice Bone of Riverside, formerly from Greene, is reported gustically ill at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Local records note her residence and treatment status, with hospital care cited as the reason for her current condition.
A Building Maintenance Technology Short Course is set at Mason City starting January 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. and continuing for five Tuesdays. Aimed at custodians from churches hospitals and firms, it covers safety fire protection floor care lighting boiler operation and related topics. The $10 fee covers instruction textbooks and materials. registration is limited to 40 and arranged through the Iowa State University Extension Area Office in Mason City.

The 24th Annual Meeting of Boone Valley Cooperative Processing Association was held November 16 at Eagle Grove Memorial Hall. About 200 board members managers employees and guests from Central and North Central Iowa attended. The cooperative, owned by 55,000 farmers through 109 local co-ops, reported sales and savings of 21,334,987.63 and profits of 1,080,184.59 for the year ending August 31, 1967. Cash payments of 791,334.85 were made to member co-ops since October 1, 1967, including 599,141.14 in Deferred Patronage Dividends from 1962-63. Since 1943, Boone Valley has saved 8,013,141.24 for its members.
Coach Bill Garner's Ramblers opened at St Ansgar with a 27 to 18 loss as several close decisions slipped away. Doug Trees and George Nixt shined with early pins, while other matches went SA edges. The B team dropped 25 to 19. next stop Nashua this Friday.

Floyd County N F Organization delegates chosen for the National Convention in Louisville Dec 6 7. Greene Ramblers and Ramblerettes lost to Parkersburg with Thorne and Siemens leading Greene. Parkersburg's Thorne scored 22. Ramblerettes fell 97 71 with M Rattler dropping 40 and Adelmund 41. Both Greene teams host Nashua Friday then travel to Clarksville next week for non conference games.
Mr and Mrs Harold Kock welcomed a son on Monday November 20 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and is named Ted Harold. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Howard Wells Greene and Mr and Mrs Lester Kock Rockford. Cathy Burke Sovereign 5410268, a five year old Registered Holstein cow owned by Duane L Smith Greene, produced a record 20 940 pounds of milk and 780 pounds of butterfat in 360 days. Towa State University supervised the production, weighing, and testing operations with Holstein Friesian Association of America breed programs. This exceeds the average US dairy cow output of 8 513 pounds milk and 315 pounds butterfat annually.
Roy Taylor was transported by ambulance to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday evening for medical evaluation and treatment.
