Juvenile held for Greene mobile station break in

Eldora Douglas James Franklin aged 16 of Greene appeared in Juvenile Court Saturday afternoon. Judge C T Wild committed Franklin to the State Training School for boys at Eldora until age 21 or discharge sooner according to law. He was accused of breaking into the Mobile Station in Greene earlier this month.

Three Twins To Attend Banquet In Greene Tonight

Minne sota Twins stars Zoilo Versalles Rod ey Carew and George Mitterwald will attend a Greene Jaycees banquet at the high school auditorium on Thursday November 30 with a family style turkey dinner. Proceeds go to the Butler County Association for Retarded Children. Tickets available at Drakle's Bellows Bar ber Shop and First State Bank must be purchased by Saturday November 25. Versalles born in Havana Cuba in 1940 is a famed defensive shortstop and 1965 AL MVP. Carew, born in Gatun Panama Canal Zone in 1947, is a rising star at second base. Commercial Club Luncheon Set for November 29

The next regular Commercial Club luncheon will be held on Wednesday November 29 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at the Community Center.

County Cancer Society Receives 1967 Award

Mrs. Harry Miller of Shell Rock accepted the Butler County Chapter of the American Cancer Society award for bettering its best in the 1967 crusade. Avery J. Lauber presented the honor at the Iowa Division annual meeting in Des Moines on Saturday, November 11. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Larsen, Mrs. Harry Miller, Mrs. Robert Litterer, and Mrs. Mervin Darby. The next board meeting is Tuesday December 12 at 9:00 in the REC room in Allison. A work crew is needed Wednesday evening to replace sod on the athletic field starting at 6:20, with tractors and manure spreaders to haul rolled sod. completion in one night is possible before freezing weather.

College-bound juniors and seniors in Butler County can meet University of Iowa faculty November 30 from 7 to 9 45 p m at West High School Waterloo. Expenditures from Public Assistance funds in Iowa for October totaled 5 226 156 with Butler County spending 31 546. Old Age Assistance accounted for 19 664, Aid to Dependent Children 8 120, Aid to Blind 1 008 and Aid to Disabled 2 754. State totals were 2 533 418 for Old Age Assistance 2 317 218 for Aid to Dependent Children 113 272 for Aid to Blind and 262 248 for Aid to Disabled.

Butter-Nut Coffee Labels Collected At Local Stores

American Legion Auxiliary members placed containers for Butter-Nut Coffee Labels in Morey’s Food Market B and W Fine Foods and Dralle’s Department Store. Labels must be deposited by December 15 to comply with the drive. Last year the Butter-Nut Christmas Club aided over 40,000 homeless youths in 380 institutions with toys candy and nuts.

Ramblerettes Sweep Rockwell In Weekend Victory

Greene Ramblerettes defeated Rockwell Swaledale 60 to 37 last Saturday evening as Mary Rattler and Marilyn Johnson sparked the varsity. The reserves remained undefeated with a 49 to 39 curtain raiser led by Arlene Lands with 18 points. Ramblerettes travel to Parkersburg Tuesday and host Nashua Friday for conference opener.

Turkey Drawing Is Saturday Night Greene Merchants Plan Drawings

The Greene Commercial Club schedules turkey drawings on four Saturday nights starting November 25 at 8:30 pm with registration at participating stores. Stores to Close On Thanksgiving

The Greene and the Post Office will be closed all day Thursday, November 23rd for Thanksgiving. The Greene Community School will dismiss pupils at 2 30 Wednesday afternoon November 22nd and classes resume Monday November 27th.

The Girl Scouts will collect old newspapers on Saturday November 25. Residents should tie bundles or box papers and place them at curb by 9:30. Ninth grade Cadet Scouts will use the funds for a senior safari to the Ozarks next summer.

The Cedar Valley Mental Health Center named new board members from Bremer Butler Chickasaw and Fayette Counties at its regular meeting. James Heyer M M Rogers Rev Robert Ruppert and William Wegman join from various towns while Dr Robert Dell fills an unexpired term. Herman Diers retires as chair and Darrell Dierks is elected to replace him. Ruppert becomes vice chair. The non profit clinic offers low cost psychiatric services across the four counties.

Rambler Teams Open Season Next Tuesday

Rambler basketball and wrestling squads begin their seasons next Tuesday. Township elections completed to elect Butler County Extension Council representatives for a two year term. New council members cover Beaver, Butler, Dayton, Jackson, Madison, Pittsford and Shell Rock townships plus re-elected West Point member Melvin Stocker. The Greene Ramblers basketball team coached by Jerry Eimers will start at Parkersburg on Tuesday November 28. Nine players remain in contention for starting spots with Rich Siemens the tallest at 6 foot 3 inches. Returning lettermen Larry Eimers and Jeff Drakle are likely starters though Drakle’s back injury hinders mobility.

Peoples Gas Awarded for Safety Achievements in 1966

Peoples Natural Gas, serving 104 Iowa communities, received honors from the National Safety Council and American Gas Association for safety achievements during 1966. Awards include the AGA’s Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention and Accident Prevention Awards for cutting injury and crash rates by 25 percent, plus the NSC third place Fleet Safety Contest award. Pfc Dennis L Viers is reassigned to Phan Rang, base of the 101st Airborne Division. He spent about three months near the Demilitarized Zone at Tam Ky and Chu Lai and has served in Vietnam for almost five months. Livestock Disease Clinic Scheduled in Butler County

The Butler County Extension Service will hold a livestock disease clinic on Tuesday December 12 from 9:39 a.m. to about 3:00 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison. Dr John Herrick will discuss beef swine and dairy disease problems and prevention with a noon luncheon panel of county veterinarians. Attendees should contact the Extension office by December 5. meal cost is 1.75 per person.
