Free Movies for Children Sponsored by Greene Club

The Greene Commercial Club sponsors free children’s movie showings at the high school auditorium on consecutive Saturdays, December 9 and 16, at 2:30 p.m. Santa Claus will distribute candy after the films. A dress turkey drawing is set for 8:30 p.m. on December 16, with a merchandise drawing planned for December 23.

Gifts Sought for University Hospitals Christmas Drive

The University of Iowa Hospitals seeks gifts for about 500 patients this Christmas. Donations should be sent to the Christmas Committee at Iowa City with no food or gift wrap. Glenn Epley Ressler 68 died suddenly Wednesday evening November 29 at his Greene home. Born February 19 1899 in Shell Rock he married Irene Sinnott February 14 1920 and farmed until retirement. Survived by wife son Glenn Merlin Ressler daughter Regina Stauffer eight grandchildren three sisters. funeral at St Marys Catholic Church December 2 officiated by Rev Joseph Murphy with burial in St Marys Cemetery.

Crosby's Trained Horse Places At California Show

Honey Rose a Tennessee Walking Horse owned by M. J. Crosby of Wishram Washington placed fourth in the mare class and sixth in the amateur open at the Grand National Livestock Exposition at the Cow Palace San Francisco from October 27 to November 5. Crosby a former Greene resident says the 5 year old mare has never been out of the money in two seasons of showing and has been trained by Crosby.

Greene boys beat Nashua 60 to 43 as Tom Needham 13 and David Fischer 17 led scoring. Nashua boys guard Dan Hench had 17. Ramblerettes trailed 63 to 49 after a tight game, with Mary Stauffer 12 and Susan Maxson 11 top scorers for Greene, while Nashua’s finish edged them ahead.

Senior Girl Scouts Attend Inter-Council Event on Saturday

Thirty-five girls from the North Town Girl Scout Council attended a vocational exploration meeting at Clarke College Dubuque on Saturday. The girls rode a chartered bus from Greene at 6:00 a.m. and returned at 7:45 p.m. Little Cloud Council Dubuque hosted the event with delegates from four Iowa Councils. Sessions covered medicine business education social work and cosmetology led by field specialists. Leo Landers shot a buck on the last day of bow season. The deer weighed about 200 pounds and was felled on his farmland west of Greene.
