Butler County hosts an open house for the new maintenance shed this Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Exhibits include road equipment from several companies, a vacuum applicator sign refacing demo, and a testing lab tour. Dick Hileman of the Iowa Good Roads Association speaks at 1:30 p.m. Prizes donated by vendors will be drawn after the program.
The Woman's Club announces a Coffee Klatch on December 5 in the Klassi building from 1 30 to 5 00 p m open to the public. A bake sale accompanies the event with tables featuring foods from foreign countries and American dishes and members are urged to bring family recipes.
Allison Blaire Lewis Baltzer a 24 year old Shell Rock school bus driver is charged with assault with intent to murder Mrs Franklin Reichert a Shell Rock house wife after admitting he fired a 22 caliber rifle through the Reichert home window early Wednesday November 22 The bullet grazed her temple and broke her eyeglasses Baltzer also admitted cutting tires on Reichert s car on several occasions He is held in the county jail in Allison on 25000 bond Bond set by Ralph McCready Justice of the Peace Court in Allison Deputy Marvin Barth and state agents investigated the case
Mary Lou Squires and her roommate Miss Joan hosted by Mr and Mrs Everett Squires in Pasadena California spent Thanksgiving weekend with the Squires. They returned to Rochester Minnesota Sunday to continue training at St Marys School of Nursing.
William August Sylvester 75 died November 23 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after a long life as a Greene blacksmith and Oliver Corp. retiree Survivors include wife Ann 3 sons 5 daughters eight grandchildren and a sister Funeral Mass at St Marys Church with burial in St Marys Cemetery Williams Mortuary in charge
Mrs V E Sellers fell down a full flight of cellar steps Tuesday at her home. She sustained bruises and was shaken but recovering at her daughter Mrs Dean Davis's residence.
Phyllis Litterer, daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Litterer, returned home last Wednesday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after an appendectomy. Mrs Paul Beguelin has also returned home from Cedar Valley, where she had treatment.
Harry Downs hosted Thanksgiving guests including Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Findlay with Barry and Barbara Findlay of Clinton and Miss Jacqueline Findlay of Cedar Falls. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Van Dyke of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Butters and their child from Iowa City, and Alice Mc Ewen along with Mrs. 8. W. Downs.
In Hospital Mrs. Ed Hanley was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City by ambulance Monday morning where she is undergoing treatment.
Airman Third Class Keith Maier of Ellsworth Air Force Base spent from Thursday morning through Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Allan and their family in Rapid City, South Dakota.
At the Boy Scout Court of Honor for Post 26 held in the new elementary auditorium on Friday evening November 24, 1960, 102 awards were given. Eagle recipients were Steven Rottler of Mason City and Tom Green of Charles City, with other awards including Life, Star, First and Second Class, and various merit badges presented by district and local leaders.
Frank J. Dailey, 85, died Wednesday at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls. Born June 21, 1876, in Butler County, he lived in Greene until 1941 then moved to Cedar Falls. Survived by daughter Margaret, three sisters, three brothers, and preceded in death by wife and several siblings. Funeral services Friday at St Marys Church Greene, Rev P J Boyle. Burial in St Marys Cemetery Greene.
Pep buses will transport attendees to Nashua Friday and Clarksville Saturday evenings. Buses depart at 6 15 p m from the designated pick up points.
The 1961 shotgun deer license printing runs at 100 per minute using a centralized 1401 Data Processing System in Des Moines. The Iowa State Conservation Commission centralizes licensing and statistics handling through the new center, under Harold Gandy, to reduce bottlenecks during seasonal work and free staff for other duties. Mrs. Harry Mehlan and family of Young America, Minnesota visited Eldred and Dayton Mather for Thanksgiving weekend.
The Greene Commercial Club schedules pre holiday events with free live turkeys and gift merchandise for adults and free movies plus a Santa visit for children. Thirty seven turkeys will be given away on December 8 16 and 22 with registrations at participating stores. A merchandise drawing of about 300 dollars occurs December 23 at 8 pm on Main Street.
Here From Chicago Mr and Mrs R J Priepke and family of Chicago spent Thanksgiving Day in the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Nordmeyer.
Mr and Mrs K W Helge and daughter Karen of Excelsior Springs Missouri arrived Wednesday morning to help celebrate the Price family 40th wedding anniversary. Mr and Mrs Tifton Todd and family of Kansas City Kansas arrived Wednesday evening and also stayed through Saturday. Helge and Todd families returned home on Saturday.
The 1962 license plates for autos trucks and house trailers go on sale Friday December 1 at the County Treasurer office in Allison. Auto plates will be white with black numbers truck plates black with white numbers and house trailers carry a flat 5.00 fee. Visited Daughter Mr and Mrs Dan McLeod returned to their Ames home Saturday after a week with their son in law and wife Herman Stubbe.
The Cub Scout Christmas party will be held on Wednesday evening, December 6th at the new elementary school auditorium. Each attendee should bring a 50 cent gift exchange for a child of the same age, and each family is to bring two dozen cookies for lunch. Any leftovers will be donated to the Rest Home in Greene and the Children's Home in Waverly.
Gustav Kollman 68 of Nashua died Saturday night from injuries after being struck by a car in Charles City. Survived by his wife, three sons Wilbur Lawrence Elvin, daughter Mrs. Frank Young, two brothers, one sister, seventeen grandchildren and a great grandchild. He farmed near Greene and lived in Nashua for 11 years. Funeral at 2:00 PM Wednesday at First Methodist Church Nashua with Rev. Raymond Ehlers officiating.
Mrs. Frank C. Nikolas and her son Anthony Craig returned to Park Rapids Minnesota on Sunday after spending two weeks with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smeins and their sons.
A missionary in Old Mexico will speak and show slides at a special mission meeting at the Baptist Church on Wednesday evening December 6. Rev Kalter and his wife have labored five years in Mexico and hope to return to the field by late February. The public is invited to hear Rev Kalter and view his slides and curios.

Individual high scores include Kenneth Stewart 542 Sam Sneed 546 Elmer Stock 525 Galen Miller 533 Randy Jones 202 and Bob Kemming 554 with Miller rolling an all spare 165.
Gary Rottler son of Mr and Mrs Vern Rottler underwent knee surgery at Mercy Hospital Mason City on Monday morning. He is expected to return home Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Clair Johnson announce the birth of a son at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on November fifteenth. The baby weighs seven pounds eight ounces and has been named Richard Jay.
The Board met in the elementary building with lower elementary faculty to review reading instruction methods and evaluation on November 20. Miss Hitchens Mrs Kehoe and Miss Hermine Bloem led the presentation with a round table discussion and planning for future instruction improvements.
Week end visitors from Cedar Falls joined Jim Stanton a junior law student at the University of Iowa in Iowa City over Thanksgiving weekend at his parents home Mr and Mrs Ambrose Stanton. Mr and Mrs Loren Clabough and family of Cedar Falls were Friday visitors.
