Funeral services for Mrs William Van Horn age 92 of Aredale were held Saturday at 1 30 p m at First Methodist Church Aredale Rev Kenneth J Harden officiated burial was in Dumont Cemetery She was born July 15 1869 in Nieuw Beerta Holland and married William Van Horn May 17 1890 They came to America in 1913 and lived in Butler County most of the time later in Franklin County Then thirteen years in Aredale Survivors include eight children Harm Parkersburg Dick Greene Louis Mason City Bill Aredale Mrs Anna Kampman Dumont Mrs Willie McKee Sheffield Mrs Fred Kusian Parkersburg and Carrie Van Horn Aredale 39 grandchildren 86 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren Preceded in death by husband 1958 and son Ben who died November 8 of this year

Butler County Reaches 87 Percent Bond Quota

Butler County residents bought 87 per cent of its bond quota by purchasing 87 866 in Series E and H savings bonds in October. The ten month total rose to 992 668. John McWhirter Allison volunteer chairman said Iowa sales in October totaled 9 797 967, up over 800 000 from 1960. Iowa's ten month total reached 121 105 974 for 81 per cent of the annual quota.

Grand Jury Indicts Myrtle Sherman in Manslaughter Case

The Butler County grand jury indicted Myrtle Sherman 44 of Greene on manslaughter charges for the November 13 gunshot death of her husband George 54. Sheriff Pete Boomgarden and Deputy Marvin Barth arrested her in Greene after the indictment. Sherman posted a 2000 bond and was released pending March trial.

Agent to Stop in Allison for SSA Help Dates

A Social Security Administration representative from the Waterloo district office will visit Allison at the Court House on December 1 and 15 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon to assist with applying for federal old age survivors and disability insurance benefits as well as social security numbers and employer identification numbers. Greene Community School reports a successful campaign reaching 35 students for its Beginners Band after fourth grade aptitude tests and parent meetings. Football Banquet Honors 1961 Corn Bowl Champions

The Greene Quarterback Club sponsors a banquet honoring the 1961 Corn Bowl champions on Tuesday evening November 28 at 6 30 in the new elementary school. Main speaker Stan Sheriff head coach at the State College of Iowa Cedar Falls. His teams won the North Central Conference crown in the last two seasons with a 16 3 overall record. Three Greene Community Students in All-State Festival

Three Greene Community High School Band members will perform at Des Moines All-State Festival this week. Charlene Young plays alto saxophone, Vae Brinkman clarinet, Sara Green violin, all chosen after tryouts. Rehearsals Friday morning at Hotel Fort Des Moines Ballroom and Hotel Savery Grand Ballroom and Kant Theatre under directors McGinnes and Levine. The festival, part of the fall conference, ends with an 8:00 p.m. concert Saturday, November 25 at KRNT Theatre.
