The town council bought a Chevrolet Biscayne four door with a two way radio siren and other police car accessories now used by marshals. Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston victories spur plans for a championship fight next year despite doubts about public reception. Also reprinted is an 1849 sale bill from Anderson Kentucky detailing goods and enslaved people to be sold alongside a whiskey still and other items.

Brother Ozro Miller Funeral Held in Julesburg

Mrs. C H Fikenberry traveled to Julesburg Colorado to attend the funeral of Ozro Miller 74 born January 15 1887 in Greene who died November 22 191? Survivors include his wife a sister Mrs R C Kuhne of Holbert Wisconsin a brother Joe Miller of Louisville Nebraska and two daughters.

Fines Listed for Hunting Violations

Jim Gregory, area Game Warden, reports fines for hunting violations. Harm Johnson of Shell Rock paid $25 plus costs for no hunting license and carrying a loaded gun in a vehicle. Jarvid Johnson of Rock Island Illinois and Richard H. Peters of Moline Illinois paid $15 plus costs for having a loaded and assembled gun on a highway. George Hinders of Clarksville fined $10 plus costs for a loaded gun on a highway. Fred Nordman of Waterloo and Lester Pounds of Sayre Oklahoma fined $10 each plus costs for no fishing license.

Rites Held for Ida Miller 79

Ida Miller died at Clark Nursing Home November 29 at 12 15 PM. Born Ida Brown in Maynard Iowa November 1 1882 she married William F Miller in 1903 and lived in Greene for over fifty years. Survived by daughter Helene and son Max plus four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral at Greene Methodist Church 2 30 PM Friday with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid Hamilton Funeral Chapel directed arrangements.

Greene By-pass Highlighted in Iowa Five Year Plan 1966

The Iowa State Highway Commission released a five year program through 1966 with an estimated 330 million dollars for interstate and primary road work. It includes a 240 thousand dollar Greene by-pass on highway 14 over 2.5 miles. The plan shifts funding, reduces primary system projects, and increases maintenance and administration costs, delaying many earlier slated improvements.

Clifford Truex Killed in Auto Accident Saturday

Funeral services were held for Clifford C. Truex 27 of Waterloo with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery Bristow after a car driven by Truex left the road Saturday near Truer, killing him and injuring his wife Mary Lou 33 who remained in serious condition at Scholtz Memorial Hospital Waterloo. Survivors include his second wife two children Jerry and Jan Marie both of Greene and his mother Mrs. Susan Flanigan of Greene.

The Greene Recorder subscription drive by Greene High School’s senior class ended last week. Gene Ross was the top salesman, and the proceeds will fund the class’s senior trip in the spring.

Klassi Quits Hardware to Run Ford Garage

W. L. Klassi, longtime hardware partner in the area, announces a closing out sale of all stock and fixtures over 27 years of service. He will devote full time to his Ford garage and has enlisted Reisch Sales Company of Mason City to conduct the sale, which begins Friday at 9 30 am. The building will be let at once after stock is disposed of. A full page ad with sale details appears on page two of the Recorder.

Fines Set in Moffett Court for Speeding and Stop Sign Violations

Ronald CBD faced speeding charges resulting in a 20 dollar fine and 84 dollars in costs. Arnold Carl Shultz of Alden City was cited for a stop sign violation with a 5 dollar fine and 4 dollars in costs. Charles City was referenced in the killing case context.

Ramblers Post Wins Over Three Squads Last Week

Greene Ramblers beat Nashua 53 38 Friday to claim a third straight win with Marsh scoring 22 and Baldwin 19. They then beat Clarksville 57 51 as Marsh piled up 25 points. The streak extended to five with a 62 43 win over Manly, led by Kingery and Marsh with strong defense and late scoring. Barth, Jewell, Burroughs, and Barth supported the attack.
