Weather improves and farmers work long hours harvesting and fall plowing while night driving on rural roads increases due to slow moving farm vehicles. Greene stores and shops offer Christmas gift options at fair prices, including The Candle Shop and Marge's Flowers. Prices for eggs may rise to a dollar a dozen as inflation concerns linger.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary placed Butter Nut Coffee label containers in Morey’s Food Market B and W Fine Foods and Dralle’s Department Store. All labels must be in by December 13 for the Auxiliary to send them to Omaha for the Butter Nut Christmas Club, which ships toys to orphanages.
A seventh grade student named Jan Schroeder was omitted from the honor roll when it was compiled. The cycle now notes the omission and confirms her recognition should be added.
Stuart P. Marsh, Equipment Operator Construction Apprentice, son of Mr and Mrs Clinton Marsh of Greene, serves with U S Naval Construction Battalion Eight in Vietnam. The battalion is slated for deactivation in December amid Nixon era spending cuts. In Danang the unit placed over four million dollars in materials for bridges bunkers road paving storage buildings air fields shelters and facilities for U S forces.
Donna Lea, infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Rollo Fishies of Nashua, was discharged from Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on November 20 after forty days. Born October 12, she weighed 2 pounds 14 ounces and reached 5 pounds 4 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lawrence Drakle of Greene.
Clarence DeWitt McCracken 94 died November 19 at Mother's Nursing Home. Born December 22, 1874 in Bellvue, he was the son of Calvin and Margaret McCracken. Services were held November 21 at the Christian Church and burial followed at Rosehill Cemetery with Reid's Funeral Chapel handling arrangements.
Dennis Ascher, son of Mr and Mrs Harley Ascher, left for Viet Nam on November 11. His address listed as Pfe Ascher D G 2546991 Headquarters ith Marine Reg Security Platoon FPO San Francisco California 96602.

The Greene Jaycees say from May to October this year over 200 registered guests from 13 states stopped at the rest area 14 percent miles south of Greene. Many camped overnight or visited briefly and praised the school house and Albrecht's turkeys. Inter state Power Company removed a diesel generator used for residents during outages in Greene last Thursday. The move follows a new area substation and expanded feeder capacity, making the unit unnecessary.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Kock welcomed a daughter named Kim Renae born November 11 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. The baby weighed 6 pounds 814 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Herbert Shafer and Mrs Robert Kock with Mrs Helen Kock as great grandmother.
Services are pending for Mrs. Frank Hoel at Reid's Funeral Chapel. She passed away Monday, November 24, at Floyd Charles City.
U S Senator Jack Miller Iowa Republican won Senate Finance Committee approval for amendments to the Tax Reform Act. The measures would let farmers defer reporting crop insurance proceeds until the year after destruction and exclude extra living expenses from insurance for damaged residences beyond normal costs.
Mrs Max Heidenwirth underwent major surgery at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Wednesday November 1. The procedure occurred at the local facility with the patient reportedly in satisfactory condition afterward.
Butler County records list new registrations by owner and vehicle. Fireman Phillip J. Schafer USN, son of Mr and Mrs Ivan Schafer of Greene Route 1, joined shakedown exercises aboard USS Albany at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Drills covered damage control ship control engineering casualty handling and weapons operation, including General Quarters nuclear warfare fire collision man overboard and abandon ship. Albany carries Talos and Tartar missiles along with ASROC and torpedoes plus two five inch gun mounts.
The Butler County Farm Bureau was named the outstanding county in District 2 for 1969 at the Iowa Farm Bureau annual convention in Des Moines on November 17. County president Darrell Needham accepts the award from Iowa Farm Bureau president J. Merrill Anderson.

Sponsored by the Mason City Chamber of Commerce, the group receives 35 dollars from the 4-H Booster Fund after being named winners at Floyd County Award Night.
The Greene Rambler wrestling team opened the 1969 70 season at Rockford tonight with new coach Dick Jaffe. Local matmen faced Clarksville teams in boys action and girls posted a 76 to 30 win while the boys defeated Clarksville 67 to 37.

October sales of Series E and H bonds and Freedom Shares in Iowa rose nearly $500,000 from September, under Greene county volunteer chairman Dale E. Schroeder. Iowa totals hit $5,466,697 for October and $61,412,679 year to date, 73 percent of the state quota. Butler county October sales brought its ten month total to $364,569, 77 percent. Ringgold county leads with 98 percent, followed by Emmet 97, Montgomery 93, Jasper 91, and Greene 90 percent.
