Butler County Crime Commission Forms Executive Board

Douglas Walker of Greene was named to the Executive Board of the Butler County Crime Commission at an Allison meeting. Dale Brinkman New Hartford and Dr M C Hoogestraat Parkersburg joined the board. Gene Shepard Allison was elected Chairman and M Burton Sprole Secretary. The panel aims to secure federal matching funds under the Omnibus Crime Control Act to aid local law enforcement with equipment training and programs. County Attorney Craig Rolfs noted eight town councils, including Greene, have approved participation. Shepard said a county needs survey is the first step, with 90 percent of survey costs funded by federal funds.

Two From Butler County at Livestock Exposition in Chicago

Butler county is among 70 Iowa counties represented at the 70th International Livestock Exposition from November 28 to December 7 at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. Lake View Charolais Farms of Aplington entered in the open Charolais Show. Russell Stickler of Parkersburg entered the junior steer show with Herefords. Jennie and Harvey Doescher of Aplington entered the open steer show with Shorthorn and crossbred steers. Doescher and Jensen of Aplington will show Angus in the open steer show. The International closes the year’s agriculture shows. Festus of Gun Smoke is featured for eight performances of the Championship RCA Rodeo from November 28 to December 3, and Little Joe of Bonanza for seven performances of the International Horse Show from December 4 to 7.

Greene Rambler Wrestling Opens 1960 Season

The Greene Rambler wrestling team opens its 1960 70 season Wednesday November 26 at Rockford at 7 00 p m There are 10 returning lettermen and a new coach Dick Jaffe who previously led Van Buren Community High to a Blackhawk conference title. Returning include Albrecht Knight Trees Weinberg Stuntz Katcher Mar ten Nixt Osier while Leavens Nixt Schafer Pyatt and Tinderholt will varsity this year. Jaffe picks St Ansgar Riceville and Nashua as tough conference foes.

A daughter was born on November 12 at Scholtz Memorial Hospital to Jerry Barth and his wife in Waterloo. Sara Lynne weighed six pounds eleven ounces. She has a 13 month old brother Andrew and grandparents Darrel Barth Burke and Kenneth Burke of Charles City. Great grandfather Harry Barth. Andrew stays with the Barth family for about two weeks.

Pearl Harbor Survivors Convention in Des Moines

All Pearl Harbor survivors and wives are invited to a convention December 6th and 7th at Beaverdale VFW Post 9127 in Des Moines. Registration starts 5:00 p.m. with dinners at 7:00 p.m. Reservations to Herb Hansen, Elk Horn, Iowa. A memorial service will be held December 7th at 11:45 a.m. in the Iowa State Capitol Rotunda.

John Marshall High names Teacher of the Month

Donald Hamilton, band director at John Marshall High School Rochester Minnesota, receives the first Key Club Teacher of the Month award during a surprise in his first hour band class. He gets a red and black ladder and plaque, replacing the old riser used at halftime shows. Hamilton is in his first year at John Marshall after earlier work toward a PhD at the University of Iowa. He is married with two children.

Conklin Attended Wartburg Workshop

Mr O K Conklin of Greene Community Schools music faculty attended a Wartburg College Music Department workshop on Music Education held November 13 at Veecks auditorium from 4 to 9 p m. A dinner was served in the Castle Room. Eunice Grube demonstrated music education techniques. Dr Maynard Anderson coordinated and commented on his 1968 Hungary visit.

Dedicate New Library In Parkersburg Sunday

Parkersburg to dedicate the Memorial Library in a Sunday ceremony with an open house from 1 to 5 PM. A 3 PM dedication by Dale Van Eman will open a day featuring a Butler County art exhibit and tours of the building.

Morgan Becomes Dumont’s First Eagle Scout

National Bible Week Set for November 23 to 30

The annual National Bible Week runs from November 23 through 30 promoting Bible reading from Thanksgiving to Christmas. National sponsors include the American Bible Society the Catholic Biblical Association and the Laymen's National Bible Committee. Three Injured In Car Tractor Accident Sunday

Three persons hospitalized after a car tractor collision four miles south of Greene on the new Aredale blacktop. Roger Quade struck the rear of a tractor driven by Galen Landers, with Mrs Landers in the cab. All taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Landers in critical condition. Sheriff Pete Boomgarden investigated.

Children’s National Book Week runs November 16 to 23 marking the 51st observance by the Children’s Book Council to foster love of books among children. About 1500 new children’s books were published in 1969, bringing totals in print to around 15,000.

New Herd Average Reported to Local Holstein Breeder

A Greene dairy herd owned by Duane L. Smith has a new annual production average. The Holstein-Friesian Association reports 16,104 lbs of milk and 606 lbs of butterfat per cow from 23 lactations, versus the U S average of 8,821 lbs milk and 325 lbs butterfat. Measurements use two milkings daily over 305 days for mature equivalents.
