Jolyn Meyer daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Meyer underwent surgery at St Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota on Friday November 28th.
The Fourth Annual Honor Band of the North Central Iowa Bandmasters Association will convene December 6 at Belmond High School with fifty six schools and 250 students plus 56 directors. Ray DeVilbiss and Warren Hatfield lead two bands with Greene High School instrumentalists joining. rehearsals run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. culminating in a 7:30 p.m. concert in Luick Auditorium featuring DeVilbiss and Hatfield programs and a mid day UNE Percussion Ensemble clinic by James Coffin.
The Junior High concert at the high school auditorium begins 7 45 p m on Wednesday December 10 with the theme Christmas in Many Lands. The 60 piece band directed by Mrs Pat Leonard performs O Holy Night Christmas in Other Lands and Jingle Bell Fantasy. The 62 voice chorus directed by O K Conklin sings A Christmas Folk Song The Holy Babe Carol of the Indian Children Ring Christmas Bells Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The combined 5th and 6th grade band of 55 directed by Ray Holtz performs several numbers. the 7th grade Folk group The Zodiacs also presents numbers. The concert ends with band and chorus and audience singing Joy to the World and Silent Night.
In Service Equipment Operator Construction Apprentice Joel D Buss, married to Diane Johnson of Clarksville Route 2, is serving with U S Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 62 in Gulfport Mississippi. He recently returned to the United States after an eight month deployment to Vietnam. While at Camp Barnes the northernmost Seabee base in Vietnam he worked on construction projects supporting American combat forces including extensive upgrading of the Vietnamese highway system and two large bridges.

Mr and Mrs Darrel Davis depart Des Moines for Jamaica this Friday to attend a seminar hosted by the Iowa Independent Oil Jobbers Association. They fly via New Orleans and return the following Tuesday with about eighty couples expected to attend.
The third in a series on diabetes will be held Friday December 5 at 2 00 p m in the Veterans Room Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. Speaker Bruce Firman pharmacist will discuss insulin and oral medications for diabetics. All diabetics are urged to attend and everyone interested in learning more about diabetes is welcome.
The freshmen-sophomores upset Rockford 43 to 40 as Greene and Helm guided a late rally. Joe Shultz led scoring with 15 points for the Ramblers while Rich Ebling added 9 and Bob Engles paced Rockford with 12.
The Rambler grapplers beat host Rockford 31 19 last Wednesday with three varsity pins. In a 21 21 B squad, Albrecht and Trees won by decisions at 98 and 115 pounds. Nashua then edged Nashua Bulldogs 24 23 with pins by Albrecht and Trees, and decisions by Leavens Stuntz Schafer Pyatt. The reserves won 30 26. Coach Jaffe praised team spirit and prep for home opener December 8 versus Clear Lake.

Marvin Chapman was taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City after his right hand got caught in a corn picker on Saturday November 29 at about 5 30 pm. He underwent surgery and lost four fingers.

Mr and Mrs Jerry Finners announce the birth of their daughter Jenni fer Lynn on November 27 at a Charles City hospital. She weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces. She has six brothers Larry Dan Dave Marty Jeff and Wendell. Paternal grandparents are E J Eimers of Fairmont Minnesota.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Eckenrod of Newhall announce the birth of their son Jason Wade on November 20 at St Lukes Hospital Cedar Rapids. The infant weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and has a brother Grant age 3. Grandparents are Paul and Cheney Greene and Leonard Eckenrod Nashua with great grandparents Will and Cheney Greene.
The All-State High School Music Festival will be carried on WMT TV Channel 2 Sunday December 1h from 1130 a.m. to 1230 p.m. Barbara Hanson and Lyle Williamson are members of the All-State Band. The festival features a 285 member band a 210 member orchestra and a 600 member chorus.
Iowa's shotgun and muzzleloader deer season opens December 6th with zones 1 2 and 4 running December 6 7 and 5 opening on December 6 7. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. Weapons allowed include certain shotguns with slugs and muzzle loading muskets. Bag limit is one deer. Buck with forked antlers allowed in Red Rock unit Marion County. Blaze orange clothing required in the field.

The Ramblerettes edged Nashua 47 to 46 as Greene defense stifled the visiting offense and the Ramblerettes clinched the win with a tough backcourt effort. In the boys game the Rambers improved to 2 and 0 behind strong shooting from Johnson and Needham, though 27 turnovers limited a higher score.
Pfe Michael Behnke son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Behnke is on a twenty day leave from Fort Bragg North Carolina He will return to duty December 10.
Dr. Conrad Wurtz director of the Iowa Bureau of Mental Retardation will speak at an Area Meeting of the Iowa Association for Retarded Children in Waverly December 11 at 7 30 p m at Bartels Nursing Home. Dr. Wilbur Thomas says the talk will cover the Bureau’s future plans and how area planning for the mentally handicapped will proceed.
December story hour at Greene Public Library is canceled. No programs or readings will be held this month.

Renee Hagarty of Mount Mercy College Cedar Rapids is chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America. The program honors women ages 21 to 39 for community work and professional contributions with fifty state winners awarded annually.
Infant Robb Earl Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Lee of Rochester Minnesota, born at St Marys Hospital on Saturday November 29 weighing eight pounds two ounces. Grandparents Sam Crooks and Mr and Mrs A B Lee of Saratoga noted. In Charles City Finch County Memorial Hospital welcomed Stanley Roose Jr in early December, a six pound eleven ounce boy, unnamed at birth.
The Greene volunteer fire department responded Friday evening November 28 at 10 45 pm to Tyden Farm No 3 where a corn drier caught fire from heat buildup in the chafe and surrounding debris. Damage runs to several hundred dollars, per Lowell Maxson.
